WIW 05.28 [black + ultra faded]

One of the main reasons I really wanted a pair of distressed, ultra faded BF jeans this year was to pair them with black (inspiration: 1|2|3|4). I find the contrast so delightful: full pigment vs. faded pigment, tough and urban vs. coastal and cool, inherently dressy vs. inherently casual, high contrast yet soft because it's not white. Of course I don't wear much black and fully plan for these jeans to be paired with primarily light and bright colors as usual, but for now I am enjoying exploring (like here and here) how black looks with light/pastel shades. You can't really see the jean distressing in these photos, it's much more noticeable in person.

The "one ultra faded denim item" + "all the rest in black" is a simple combo, but really my skin plays the part of a third color (the snakeskin on the belt and peach sunnies also fall into that category). Initially I tried this with booties that fully covered my foot, but I liked having the extra skin there showing. Then my plan was for black pumps except, strangely, I'm sore today (yet wasn't yesterday) from dirt biking on Monday so out came the black loafers which add even more to... whatever the vibe of this outfit is. Had to add a little bit of glam with the giant doorknocker earrings, dainty gold spiked bracelet, retro sunnies, candy pink lipstick, and double-coated mascara (also my hair); in addition to a peek of my pretty lacy blush bra if you happen to be at juuuuust the right angle and I'm moving juuuuust the right way. While I have very few black tops with which to try variations on this theme, for today I really like this extra slouchy outfit!

Super slouchy, sleek and fab!! Love the black top with light wash denim! So cool.

Great outfit! The dark top with the light denim looks very sleek and chic. Have you tried black with pastel pink? I might just try that myself this weekend. And your Gap SBF's are a fabulously long length - I have to wear mine rolled above the ankle because they just aren't long enough to wear floor length.

Great look! I wouldn't have thought to add the loafers, but they look great with it.

Love this! The faded color of the jeans is the perfect foil for the black. The pink lipstick is fantastic on you!

Oh I agree with the faded denim and black.  Must try this myself.  The loafers add a structured slightly preppy vibe to the outfit.  Which feels less expected than booties or pumps.

Adore this combination. For some reason I've never thought about pairing very faded jeans with black...now I'm wondering why...

A color combo after my own heart. Black and faded jeans are so rock n roll to me. I just saw a lady in fantastic baggy faded jeans and chunky loafers today - So cool, just like yours.

Wow! You wear slouchy well, girl! Love the relaxed vibe!

Thanks very much ladies, glad you all like the black + ultra faded denim as much as I did ^^

Karie, I've done my blush moto with black and also mint with black along with the gray and rust ones I linked above, though these second two have white which makes them a bit less severe. I'd love to see your version! Yes these SBFs are quite long, I ordered them in the Tall specifically so they'd be long enough to wear full length :)

Denise, the loafers do have that feel, perhaps that's why I was drawn to them over my other more conventional black shoe options.

Rae, aw thanks! It's tough trying to get the rock'n'roll in without wearing much black, but this certainly does the trick heh. I've worn the combo with shorts many times, rarely with full length jeans like this.

    *claps hands*

That's what I had in mind the other day ;-)

I've always liked this combination too -looks great!  I took the scissors to some of my faded blue jeans recently so I could wear them with a couple of my black summer tops this season.

I like this baggy look on you too. Fashionable. And WITH FLATS. Nicely done. xo

Stunning Aida!  All the thought and details which you do so well are really shown in their full effect.  Superb.

Gorgeous!  And I have the pieces to (mostly) copy!  Yay!

Great outfit!  I love faded denim and black as well.  I love the accessories you've added - belt, shoes and earrings all look great together.

Love the bit of James dean era retro in the jeans -- looser and longer, with a cuff --- and with loafers.

Black and faded denim does look fresh again.  You inspire me!

Aida, your posts always make me smile. I love how this is so simple but works so well. The jeans remind me of my AG Tomboy jeans in the light wash -- they have a very similar vibe. I love mine so much, I've considered buying a second pair and cutting them off into shorts. :-)

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you for the great comments, ladies!

    Ornella, delivered as promised :D

Angie, yes the flats felt much better, and not just because of the soreness -- the heels looked more conventionally good of course (as much as baggy ultra faded BF jeans can be conventional), but I really liked the vibe the loafers added. This did make me feel rather shorter than usual, though! I suppose I can't look taller than I am all the time ;)

Janet, these jeans definitely have a tomboyish vibe! That was my goal with them. They've got no stretch and are relaxed more in the way that my husband's jeans are than mine, so they have a more true BF feel to me.

The loafers make the look more 2014. xo

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

*nodnod* A more unexpected item pairing. Which is interesting because that's why heels looked so good with BFs in the first place ^^

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Like you, I truly love the look of black with faded blues, and I especially love it with your FAB lipstick! Gorgeous!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Inspired!  I could do this with my sweatpant jeans... I prefer light on the bottom for me anyway.  You look smashing!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thanks Suz and Una!

Una, I can see you wearing this sort of thing with ease :)
