WIW 05.21 [liquid gold]

I wanted to give my floor-sweeping hems a quick whirl before the rain comes back for a short visit. Today's weather was very pleasant, warm and breezy, so I started with these lightweight very fluid trousers. The wind made them even more swishy than normal!

My recent foray with a black top and light bottoms has me thinking about pairing black with softer lights as opposed to pairing with white like I would normally do. It's a softer high contrast alternative, and I'm especially interested in pastels as the light shades. These pants usually get paired with lights or brights, but today this black crane tee was extra appealing because I liked how the gold looked with the gray. Went full-on matchy with the rest of the outfit: black pointy pumps, black foldover clutch, and giant gold double-hoop earrings. Fluffy curls and a soft natural pinky-red lip color for extra boho touches.

Normally I wear a wide-strapped tank underneath this tee, as the neckline is excessively wide and likes to move around quite a lot as I do. But today I wasn't feeling the sporty vibe that provides. So , inspired by Joy's comment in her recent post on Galway street fashion about the French woman she saw, I did something I rarely do: I skipped the tank and just wore a pretty lacy blush bra underneath with the intent that it might be "glimpsed". The pretty straps only show occasionally when the neckline slides, and the rest only a little peek if you were at the right angle as I were moving. Normally bras are just utilitarian for me, and I'm not often into showing them for myself, but I did like the effect today; the seam didn't show as much in person as it does in the photos, I promise.

This is a pretty heavy volume-on-volume look. But the mostly exposed arms and neck along with the pointy pumps provide enough structure for me, plus even though the pants are very oversized they're still tailored. I think it looked even better in person, the fluidity made it very tough to photograph.

Love this Aida! I do the bra strap thingie too with wide necks. If I am going to flash, I might as well feel pretty doing it. Lol. I love your top and the pants I am sure look lovelier in motion. And the gold hoops are pretty too :)

This is such a lovely outfit! I like how the volume photographed :) What a beautiful image on your tee. The foil print (?) is so unusual and the way you picked up on that with earrings and bag hardware shows your attention to detail. I wouldn't have though to pair the top with light grey, yet it works well. Looking good!

Very nice! I like the fluidity of your outfit. I also agree that it photographed well but I imagine that it looks even better in motion. That black crane tee looks like it has a foil-ike texture to it, it's unique and gorgeous!

What a beautiful outfit. I love the top paired with the pastel jeans and the peek of pretty bra straps, but your most fab accessories are your gorgeous hair and smile

Love the wide legs with the darker top. Love your hair. I normally also wear a tank in that situation but think the pretty strap works for you!

I like this a lot and could imagine the movement making it look even better in person! Also, thanks for linking that clutch! That looks like an awfully tempting option for replacing my several-years-old black clutch. (It has a giant oversized bow on it, and I'm realizing I'm over giant oversized bows).

I always thought grey goes better with silver but you have proved otherwise here. Such a fun top!

I can hardly focus on the outfit because I'm so enamored with your hair. My goodness. Beautiful curls!

Great outfit!  I love that crane tee!  And I'm so jealous of your hair.  I think it's that "grass is always greener..." thing - my hair is straight so I've always wanted curls.  My cousin with super curly hair has always wanted my straight hair.

Love the volume on volume look. You look so good in black too! Good idea to wear the long hems before the rain. Hope the rain doesn't stick around :)

I love your crane tee! Is it by any chance still available if you don't mind my asking?

This whole outfit has a lovely, soft cohesiveness to it (which is interesting given the black and hard edges from the bag). I can just imagine how well it moves too.

Tempted by the bag. YLF finds is dangerous!

Thanks so much ladies! I'm pleased with how the photos ultimately came out, they just took 3x longer than normal to get ;) The wind didn't help much either, especially since I just use the self-timer. Also, those hoops look way bigger in person. Anyone interested in the purse, I must point out that it doesn't function well at all in crossbody form; the magnetic closure is in the center and the strap pulls it open almost immediately, forcing it to be worn open as a big square. I use mine as a clutch exclusively.

Diane and Karie, yep the cranes are a sort of gold foil screen print, all one tone. I really like the effect!

Sara, I went through periods when I was younger of wishing for straight hair, but I am happy with what I have now. Curl perms have come a long way and can look quite good these days, just sayin' :)

Jackie, hah black is one of my best neutrals. I just don't like very much of it at once ^^

Diana, unfortunately the crane tee isn't available any more (I've had it 5+ years). I'm glad the outfit reads as soft, that's one of my primary goals when working in a lot of black these days.

Another fab outfit! Each one better than the next! How DO you do it! I have to say that I absolutely adore this. The print on the blouse--the pairing with grey. SO gorgeous, I can't stand it. You are a fashion genius!

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

This is gorgeous, another fan of the tee here.

  • dustt replied 9 years ago

trying to look at the details of this outfit but I'm distracted by today's absolutely stunningly perfect HAIR!!!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Kelly, Rabbit, and Dustt!

    Kelly, ahh well... Honestly, I think it's time. I have a lot of it to get ready with since I only work part time. I don't do nearly as well when rushed, though I'm getting better at that. Having the time to put into getting the wardrobe to where it is also a big help. I also tend to fall asleep scheming outfits 0:}

Love it! What a great top. And yes, your hair is looking terrific!

  • Debora replied 9 years ago

Just beautiful! Such an elegant look, and you hair is stunning, too. I love how the gold softens the black.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

This really works for me. The top looks yummy - lovely drape and subdued colours. I like the black/gold/blue-tinged grey combo.

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Ooh I like this a lot! I'm amazed how you're able to make that cut of shirt work with wide leg pants! You still look so polished!

  • MsMaven replied 9 years ago

Beautiful and comfortable looking.  If I'd seen the top and bottom separately, I wouldn't have thought they'd work together, but they do--and so well.

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

Fantastic job! You make volume-on-volume look easy. And the gold on your top and all the accents just make your outfit that much better. And your hair looks fab.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

    So incredibly elegant.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

Ooohh, this is one of my favorite Tees on you - lovely color combination. Your hair looks so sculptural, bouncy and healthy!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks for the lovely comments, everyone!

MsKatieKat, the top's fabric (50/50 cotton/modal) and drape help a lot since it's the type that sort of collapses back in on itself. I think the round hem might help, too.
