WIW 01.23-27 adjacent colors week

Here is my complete week of adjacent colors (as posted about here). It was certainly a fun experiment, and solidified how much I love this method of pairing colors. I found when the shades are quite close together, like in #1 and #4, those are the combos that really tug at my heart strings. I fully intend to continue using this type of adjacent pairing into Spring :)

The three tricky bits for this experiment for me were: making sure everything looked wintery enough, not using colored bottoms, and making each outfit look different from the others even though I had to use very similar layering techniques.

  1. red/red-orange - My favorite of the week! The only way I've gotten a pencil skirt to feel "me" is by pairing with slouchy tops and boots. This is completely waist surrendering, but I LOVE the vibe of this outfit.
  2. yellow/yellow-green - I was in a retro mood this day, so I thought it'd be fun to wear my vintage midi; my sis commented that it looked conservative for me. Featuring a beautiful necklace that our dear Sona sent to me!
  3. yellow-green/blue-green (skips over adjacent to next tone) - This is actually the layering idea that got me thinking about this experiment. While out shopping, the tweed on one arm of this coat just... fell apart. So back it'll go. I'm so bummed! (I also just realized that the bust pocket buttons on the silk blouse are a little, erhm, unfortunately placed -_-)
  4. blue-green/blue - My second favorite of the week! This is a spring-time jacket (purchased at the Dec. YLF meetup, and those in LA may recognize it as well), but I got it out early for this challenge :) The color difference was a bit more jarring in person. I love putting 80s inspired blazers into 70s inspired outfits ^^
  5. dark blue/purple (skips over adjacent to next tone) - This end of the spectrum, blue-purple through red-purple, is least represented in my wardrobe. I went for a bit of a preppy/menswear look, complete with oxfords though it's probably still too cold to go sans socks!

Thanks also to everyone who joined in on this, I absolutely love seeing everyone's outfits! Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

WIW 01.15-20 in the snow

Well as most of you know we had snow in Seattle last week ;) I love love love snow, but have little in my wardrobe (besides snowboarding gear) to accommodate it because we really don't get much. It was an interesting challenge, and I feel for those of you who have proper winters with long-term snow to deal with!

  1. Sunday, 15th. Worn for a walk at night before the really heavy snow fell.
  2. Monday, 16th. Worn out to dinner, again not too much snow yet.
  3. Tuesday, 17th. Now we have some good snow! My usual photo space is barely recognizable ;) Worn for a nearly full day of playing in the snow, so I opted for gear.
  4. Had to shovel the driveway, so why not build a snow fort... and then drive the car through it? 0:)
  5. Also walked down to the water (Puget Sound), which was just a beautiful view with the snow.
  6. Thursday, 19th. Worn to the grocery store to restock. Lots of abandoned cars in the parking lot, and tons of snow on my street.
  7. The most snow I've seen here in a long, long time!
  8. Friday, 20th. Worn out for date night dinner. The rain started up and the snow started melting, but still pretty icy out. I have to say, sweater dresses are awesomely warm and comfy for snow days!
  9. Saturday, 14th. Bonus kitty in the snow when it first started photos ^^ He really likes snow, for some reason!

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

EDIT: Yowza, those photos are BIG!

K/R: dresses, scarves, and boots oh my!

Hi ladies! I have a few items I'd really like to get some feedback on. I love all of these items but would like to keep only 10s, and welcome ALL honest and frank feedback. Thanks in advance :D

1/2 - Black and gray sweater dress. Does the black triangular shape coupled with the elbow dolman sleeve emphasize my IT shoulders too much? The fabric up top is fairly loose, though I don't think it shows in the photos.

3/4 - Taupe sweater dress. How is the fit? Too, erhm, bootylicious from the side? And did I do the giant cowl right (how do you work those things!?)?

5 - Dotty wrap dress. This is the first true wrap I've tried so pardon the uneven/tight tie job, I promise I've figured it out now :) How's this look? Is the top too loose looking?

6/7 - Bright scarves. I'd like to keep one of the two on the right. One is citron/gray, the other tomatoey-coral/tan. Does the citron color work for me? I'd love to keep that if it does, I have nothing else like it.

8/9 - Miz Mooz Jayne taupe boots. I've wanted these since seeing Rita (and then Christy) fabulously model them, and my husband got them for me for Xmas! However I am concerned that they may be too wide and/or tall for me, and they are a bit loose at the ankles (fit OK from the side, a bit gappy at the top corners from front/back). I'd love to be able to wear both with bare legs/hose AND with pants, is this possible? Is the color too cool?

WIW 01.10 - pattern mixing a la today's blog post

Angie's fab pattern mixing blog post this morning coupled with a serious need to wear something fun today inspired me to mixmixmix! I chose to do gold gingham+gray leopard, and an extra shot of feline print with cheetah booties (mrawr!); outside, we have houndstooth+tweedy plaid, and of course the cheetah. I'm not sure how crazy this is on the Scale Of Print Mix Madness (feels pretty tame to me), but either way this outfit is helping cheer me up immensely :)

A week of adjacent colors

I had this crazy idea to experiment with a week of outfits which have adjacent tertiary color pairings (they have such drama!). These are the first ideas I had; two of them need tweaking to keep with the tertiary theme but I'm not sure I have the items to do so:

  1. red/red orange
  2. gold/moss green
  3. yellow green/blue green (skips over adjacent to next tone)
  4. blue green/blue
  5. dark blue/purple (skips over adjacent to next tone)

Too crazy? Thoughts?

:)

WIW 01.07-09 (inspired by San!)

Weekend looks, and back to work!

  1. Saturday, worn out to breakfast then shopping! I haven't gone clothes shopping for myself in a couple months so I had fun and came away with a couple fab items which I will post soon. New earrings, an Xmas gift from my sister's boyfriend. At breakfast (our favorite breakfast haunt, The Vintage, where we ate for the Everett meetup), the waitress commented that my husband and I "both always dress so cute!" and that she loved how our styles match (her words!). Hubby was highly amused, as he doesn't think our styles are remotely similar ^^
  2. Sunday, pretty much a day off. My husband and I went out to lunch, I wore this :)
  3. Monday (today), worn to work. Inspired by this fabulous outfit that Sandy posted yesterday, and also wearing my lovely Secret Santa pendant from Kimlee. Love how this turned out! This is a new short coat I bought on Saturday, my first! Hope it passes YLF muster.

WIW 01.02-06 (including a hair cut*)

* But don't worry, those who liked my hair long, it's not much shorter ^^ She did cut off about 6" though it's barely noticeable; not ONE person around me even realized it was cut, sigh.

I know I haven't been really been posting any WIWs for a while, but I'm hoping to get back into the habit of it :D Here's what I wore this past week, apparently feeling dark.

  1. Monday, worn out for dinner at a casual pub. I later changed the way I tied my scarf and liked it so much better I just had to take another photo of it.
  2. Tuesday, worn for a late night grocery store run for wine, cheese, salami & crackers!
  3. Wednesday, aaaand back to work! A good shot of the new 'do. Finally figured out how to style it more rock n' roll; until this day I was still on the fence about the cut which I'd had done back on Dec. 20th. Also, it was raining so hard I needed to wear my raincoat!
  4. Thursday, worn to work then out to dinner and over to a friend's. A brief reprise from the wet wet wet weather, so I jumped on the chance to sport my baggy flared jeans. One of the few dark-up-top outfits I've been really really fond of the last couple weeks.
  5. Friday, worn to work and then whatever's in store for date night. It's hard to see but this top is actually navy, not black. I had the same booties from #1 on initially, but as I was getting ready to leave my husband commented that flats would look better. As it is date night I gave it a try, and lo and behold actually ended up liking it better :)
