WIW 05.29 [boxy]

At first I was bummed that today was forecasted to be so cool (when the next week is going to be soooo pretty), but decided instead to look at it as a great opportunity to bust out this heavy ponte shirt once more! Lemonade from lemons and whatnot, right?

Previously I'd worn this top with gray+florals, red floral, and olive+black. Today I thought it'd be fun to pair with plaid to echo the top's boxiness in a somewhat less obvious way. I've actually got a few pairs of pants that are checked in one way or another but with the clouds I knew the cheerful red had to be the one to wear. Same with the cream booties, a much more cheerful option than black (which would've worked just fine); I picked the booties over pumps for a (marginally) tougher vibe. Accessorized with dainty spike-themed jewelry, spiked bracelet and pyramid studs in gold and brass respectively, both to echo the little gold buttons on the shirt's shoulders and to play up the punky pants. I wanted to keep the shirt the white star, so I went with my black clutch which stands out a bit less than white or another color would. Finished with a soft cherry-pink lip gloss because, well, it was all too matchy already ;)

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

(Bonus little bumblebee that was sunbathing out on the patio ^^ There are loads of them right near this photo spot right now thanks to the rhododendrons, and they don't have good aim at all: I get bumped at least once whenever shooting!)

The details veer to the punk side. I love it! The plaid pants, piping detail on the top and cream booties!

I love this outfit on you. The fit of the top is perfect imo, it has the modern, boxy feel while retaining figure flattery.

Absolutely wonderful! Love the red plaid skinnies, love them paired with this top, and the delicate cream booties are just right.  Somehow the boxiness of the top is softened by the curved hem and then restated in the plaid and it looks artful and gorgeous on you.

My best friend growing up had beautiful red plaid skinnies like you do - and she has curly hair too! This brought back a lot of good memories for me: who knew she was so far ahead of the fashion curve?

    Bzzzzzzz bee!

Love this and your incorporation of white is phenomenal. I always always default to black. So bad.

    Pretty darn cool!

That's a nice Spring iteration for the dark+bright trousers. Love the bookending with the cream blouse and booties. I'm assuming your recent "weight change" was a weight loss? You're looking good Aida!

PS I'm sending some hot dry weather your way. :)

Love this on you. The white is so great w the plaid!

You look always polished and put together to me. Beautiful top and a perfect outfit. I also went back and checked how you have worn the top earlier. It was fantastic to see the difference small tweeks make in an outfit. You have nailed it every time. Just emphasizes the need to have the perfect individual pieces to create the perfect outfit.

Aida, this is gorgeous. I loved reading your reasoning, too. Having it explained makes the outfit even more interesting to study, and I find myself nodding my head through the text. The lighter booties are a great choice, and I much prefer them to pumps wit this outfit. This seems very you to me. The colors, silhouette and accessorizing works so well together.

The refined booties look like a bootie version of pumps, which I've come to associate with your style. I could see Angie wearing a similar outfit. Everything fits so well. It was a treat to read your thoughts putting this together. YLF
There must be a reason that they are called "bumble" bees, bumbling into things. It's a wonder that they can fly at all.

Great outfit and you look wonderful in it. The "boxiness" of the outer shirt is balanced by the eye being drawn to the bold pant and the little curved (and soft) border of the top underneath. Really well done!

Great look! Love the light top and footwear with the funky trousers.

    Killer

'80s meets the '70s in that special Aida way.

    LOVE.

I need a top like that.

Denise sent me a pair of her red plaid pants. I could copy this! Well, except I lack the top and the cream booties....alas...

But it's given me great inspiration. Thank you!

I do love it when those plaid pants come out to play. What a great outfit! I love the white and cream. Lovely jewellery and great bag too. YLF!

Aw thanks ladies, it's nice to hear love of the red plaid pants! Huge soft spot in my heart for plaid pants as a sortof-ex-but-more-like-a-not-actively-practicing punk (mindset is still there, though!) ^^

Shevia and Quietgirl, great observation on the curved hem. I hadn't really though about it, but very true. The sheer fabrication of that bit helps soften the boxiness even further.

Una, even though black fits your UWP moniker better, you look plenty fine in white by the way :) You could always use white as your "aha gotcha!" neutral kind of like how I use black.

Claire, hehe yes that's right, though it was a realllyyyy slow thing over a couple years. Slow enough that I didn't notice it with all the oversized fits. It dawned on me all at once one morning and has been a difficult thing to deal with since. Your weather has come, we've got a beautiful week ahead of us so thanks! ^^

Joy, YES! "The refined booties look like a bootie version of pumps..." I don't know how I didn't see it that way before, but you are 100% spot on. Wow that just cleared up why a whole pile of booties I've been trying didn't feel right, thank you.

Angie, I've been enjoying bringing more of my 80s side to play :D

Suz, oh I know you've got similar enough pieces for something like this! The SE snakeskin booties and your cream cashmere hoodie perhaps?

  • Andrea W replied 9 years ago

Nice outfit and I love those trousers!

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

This is a perfect way to take on the weather and your bookended pops of white with the cheerful red look so fresh and fun!  Love the little bumblebee shot, too.

You've inspired me to get my tartans out in the sun here in So. Cal.

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

Very pretty outfit Aida. I love the little pyramid stud earring with the plaid pants.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Andrea, Vicki, and K!

Vicki, your yellow tartan pants would especially fun paired with whites and metallics in the summer :D
