WIW 03.31-04.04

Here are my work outfits from last week. The weather perked up quite a bit, so I had fun working in some springier looks. I played with all kinds of spring trends: white, sheer, pastels+black, florals, printed pants, tuxedo striping, flares, fluid/oversized fits... And plenty of "flattering enough", as usual. Also, apparently this was "wear all light footwear" week, which seems to come around more and more often. High happiness factor all around this week, probably one of my faves in a long time!

#1 Monday - I bought this creamy, semi-sheer, low-hi (the other way around!) jacket last spring but never wore it; I still loved the jacket, though, so I hung onto it and happily I'm feeling it much more this season. Also, while these baggy BF flares are fun, I would really like to add an equally faded (and possibly more distressed) pair that's fitted through the thigh.

#2 Tuesday - Decided to go with the 'do and don a black outfit my way: with lots of white ;) Top-down dark-to-light gradient with some new slightly-glossy windowpane pants I picked up for spring (I let those white Sloans get away and have been kicking myself for it!). Between the shoulder-emphasizing color gradient, the dolman sleeves, and slightly awkward ankle-length pants this certainly isn't a conventionally flattering outfit on IT me. I do many of these daily, but several of Angie's tips to elongate are very noticeable here: #1-3, 5, 6, and 8. Also had fun with the geometric lines in this one ('specially contrasting the circular earrings) ^^

#3 Wednesday - These little floral pumps are one of the few things I've purchased for spring, which have been on my list of wants for several years now primarily because I am very particular about florals (aren't we all?) but also because I specifically wanted pointy toes. Hooray for pointy toe seasons! This particular print is rather expansive, so I had the SA bring me 4 pairs (which was all the pairs they had in my size) so I could pick the pattern placement I wanted (he was very amused). The top is also new, a stiff ponte with a sheer curved hem extension and leather piping on the sleeves. I actually bought this for fall/winter, but as springs here in the PNW are mostly cold and wet it'll still get some usage for a while.

#4/5 Thursday, also worn out clothes shopping with my sis - Pulled out the old trusty debombshelling a pencil skirt with a roomy top, my favorite way to wear pencils, as well as played with mixing pastels with black. I like it! I spent the morning helping my sister shop for a new job and specifically wore something difficult so I could stay focused on her, but of course managed to pick up a few things for me, too :)

#6 Friday, also worn out for date night with hubby - This cozy tunic sweater was another end-of-season sales item that can continue to get more wear into spring. I think Angie had this on one of her lists a while back? It's super comfy, but fuzzes on everything (because of the angora perhaps). More pastels+black mixing here, along with some new mirrored sunnies and a cream droplet necklace (another thing I've been looking for a long time now!) I picked up the day before. Lots of horizontal lines here with the short-over-long, black skinnies, and cream booties but I quite like the look! Incidentally, this is a significantly less black version of the tunic ensemble Angie posted on the same day.

#7 Nails for the week ^^

What is this thread doing buried away where I almost missed it! I love every one as whole and also parts - like that trench is perfect and I have a hard time with trenches. The flares with the light top look wonderful. Love the graphic mix, the shoes, the pastels in #6. The trim on the sweater in #3. I could go on, but I am running out of time!

As usual, you look fab! I am especially fond of #1 and the top in #3. Seeing you sport your clutches is reminding me that I need to take mine out for a whirl.

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

I love the pencil skirt and the birds top (who are they by?) and the nude boots make your legs look miles long. The rest are fab too, but this is my favorite. So glad you're posting again.

  • AJ replied 10 years ago

So glad to see you posting again, Aida!

    My favorites are 3 & 5.

Do you happen to have a link to that top in #3?

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

Love your new floral pumps. They are so fab! All of your outfits are so uniquely Aida! I love them all especially 1,2, and 3. The low high jacket is just gorgeous on you. The shoulder detailing is so fun--streamlined and so modern. Adore the pattern mixing in 2 with the white clutch and shoes. Those  accessories really make it! 3 is just effortlessly chic. The chiffon hem and leather trim on that top make it really extraordinary. LOVE it. You look fab, Aida!

As always, I LOVE your outfits! I especially love the floral pumps! :)

I love how you incorporate edgy & boho - YLF.

You look so good in all the whites and pastels! Glad you kept the jacket; it's super cool. #6 has got to be my personal favorite, though... suddenly I am seeing tunics with cropped jackets everywhere I look - need more tunics!

    Lovely Aida!
I love your pastel tunic in pic#6, and notice that they look very 2014 in the slightly over-sized shape you sport here.
Your nails always look superb :)

Everything is fab, but I've got to say that I am particularly wowed by the unexpectedness of 5. I haven't been wearing skirts or tall boots lately, and you are seriously making me rethink that :)

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Those floral shoes are ultra fabulous! And I love the color mixing in #6.

I have a similar, if not the same, pair of windowpane pants (mine are from H & M) - I also let the Sloans get away and am kicking myself for it - so thanks for the outfit inspiration for that one ;)

Looks like you had a fashionably fantastic week!

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Love them all! I particularly like how you wear light colors without looking too sweet. And the floral pumps are wonderful! I'd call out some more details that I especially liked in your outfits, but then I'd be tempted to pretty much mention everything.

  • Erikajl replied 10 years ago

Love them all. Love your style. And, I especially love how you show the outfits from the side and back! Thank you for that.

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

    Great outfits!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

It's GREAT to see you post your outfits again, Aida. I have missed them, and your sweet spirit on this forum.

I loved those floral pumps at Nordies, but found them uncomfy. Now I can enjoy them on fab you. xo

Hi gorgeous! Always such a treat to see your outfits, and beautifully photographed (I wish I had such discipline!). I particularly love #1 and #6. Those floral shoes are FAB!

And I really like the jeans in #1 -- they remind me of my AG Tomboy jeans, which are also baggy and wide in the leg. They were so comfortable that I bought them in two washes, but the lighter ones ran really big and definitely pushed my baggy limits, so I've always been a little reluctant to wear them. I wore them one day last week with cowboy boots for a very low-key casual day, and my husband surprised the heck out of me by telling me he loved those jeans on me. Funny how our guys' eyes can adjust, after years of him liking tight jeans on me.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Yummy, all of them, but the last one is magical.

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh those shoes are so fun! And your nails remind me of a night sky with a full moon, so I love them. :)

All of your outfits are beautifully put together, but somehow I love 1 the most! I think it's the colour & texture combination, but it also flatters you beautifully. I hope you wear that jacket all of the time this spring, especially since you have so many gorgeous footwear bookending options. (And it makes me think I should definitely try some warmer weather volume over volume looks.)

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Always love to see Aida's style! My fave is nr. 3, but all are just as fab! ointy floral heels are TDF! I know what you are speaking about(pattern placement). I usually get the second/several stare when do the same thing generally with all the patterned  clothing items in the world:-) Once  I bought the same navy tee twice(but at least in different sizes) because there where slightly differences in the shades of the fadded blue tyedye pattern on it(one had a bigger contrast than the other) and I couldn't decide on the one I loved it better.:-)

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

YAY !!  Spring is just getting better.  It is so great to see you posting again.  Let's see...to the outfits.

1 )  OMG,  I love the jacket.  I am so glad that you are wearing it. Flares look great too.  I have always admired how you wear white/light colored shoes with your dark hair .   You always pull it off so well.

2 )  Great pattern mixing. I never would have thought of stripes with window pane.  Brilliant.

3 )  I lOVE this outfit. Everything about it is great.  And then the shoes, sigh !

    4) Ok, I have changed my mind. This one is my favorite. The color combo is fantastic and the graphics and, well, everything.

    5) I am giving up.  They all seem to be my favorite.  This one really is it.  This one has the jacket that I have been trying to replicate for 1.5 years.  I still love it as much as the first day that I laid eyes on it.   :  )

Awesome nails.  I really like the subtly of the graphics on them.

The thing that I find so amazing about these outfits is that I never would have thought  "trendy'.  Though they are decidedly modern.  They are also very Aida.   It makes me re-think Angie's post on trends and a member's post on which trends we would try.  I basically said "none".  But then I look at your posts and I think "ALL".

Every time I see that blush moto, I'm convinced I absolutely NEED a blush moto!

  • replied 10 years ago

I don't have a favorite and enjoyed reading how everything came together.  Have missed your posts.  You cracked me up about picky pattern placement on the pumps....nicely done.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I have been looking for 1.5 years for a blush moto - ever since I met Aida and she was wearing it.  It is becoming a HEWI for me.   I should have ripped it off of Aida's back when I had the chance.   Oh, did I just write that on a public forum ?   LOL

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments ladies!!

Shevia, Kelly and Isabel thank you for the especially detailed comments. I really appreciate them!

Gracie, the crane shirt is a many-years-old tee from Forever 21, and the pencil is The Limited from last spring.

AJ, the white ponte top is Ann Taylor and this one I do have a link for!

Rae, how funny! You're one of the reasons I keep wanting to try the silhouette. They are hard for me to fit, but I also say more tunics!

Karie, we can bemoan our lack of white windowpane Sloans together! My pair is from Ann Taylor, and has a slightly glossy sheen which I find fun ^^ I don't think I've seen yours yet, I'll keep my eyes peeled for them.

Janet, yes those boys are weird that way! Mine likes skinnies and very classic bootcuts. Just about everything else gets the eyebrow raise, heh.

E, I love volume-on-volume looks when it's warm, because then the whole outfit is nice and breezy! The trick is finding ways to add structure or reign the volume in in the right places.

Isabel, your final comment was very interesting to me. I think that we can and should adopt and incorporate trends in ways that suit us, whether we're going for a trendy fashion-forward look or a current modern look. And it's always good to keep in mind that you don't need lots of them at a time, even just one on-trend item can go a long way! These days I'm going for modern and fashion forward, but not all-out trendy, so it's nice to know that it's coming across that way. And I'll keep my eyes on the jacket, but hey if it were to "find its way" to your closet at least I know it'd be in good hands :)

Angie, my kingdom has expanded! Excellent ^^ The leather on the floral pumps is definitely stiff, but my feet aren't super fussy about that yet. I am debating whether or not to try the soggy sock trick with them but since the floral part is canvas I am hesitant.
