WIW 04.14-18 [a rainy interlude]

After a week of beautiful sun, we were back to our usual rain this week. Happily it didn't cool too much and there were bits of sun here and there; today was actually dry (quick, bust out the flares!). Apparently I was feeling a bit quirky this week, looks like my eclectic genes took over ;)

#1 Monday - A color combo I'm loving these days: white+blush+yellow, today adding a big dose of black. This is my interpretation of the cropped+skinpeek trend, to wear a clearly cropped top/jacket but without the skin sliver (a light camisole covers that). Rather-nerdy proportions, probably not for everyone; played up the rockabilly vibe with the big pomp-pony and dainty jewelry (dainty spike earrings, key necklace, and spike bracelet) which I've come to realize I enjoy wearing when I do my hair this way.

#2 Tuesday - Inspired by this outfit. I always love looking at olive and black together on others, but wearing the combo makes me glum. The obvious solution, which somehow never occurred to me: wear olive with white instead! I'm definitely giving this ponte top a workout before it gets put away until fall, wearing it once a week since it arrived.

#3/4 Wednesday - Here's something I never thought I'd say: I think this furry vest just isn't dramatic enough. Perhaps a wider, longer one is in order! New silk kitty-print blouse (waving to my... what are we at now, quadruplets?) and new gold sequined clutch. I was originally going to wear my orange blazer with this, as orange+white+blue is one of my favorite spring combos. But my hair was extra sassy that day so I popped on some bright orange lip gloss and went with the fur instead. Bonus toothy grin photos for Angie <3 (and I'm sure those of you who've met me can hear the accompanying giggles ^^).

#5 Thursday - So this new duster cardigan is a borderline wildcard item for me. This isn't a print style I go for and I bat for Team Jacket, but it does have my colors and certainly appeals to my boho side. It just caught my eye as I passed and, since it was inexpensive, I decided to grab it. I'm expecting it'll only last through the year but should be a fun piece while it lasts. Styled with a light column, but with black boots to complete the 3-piece vertical line. Still had sassy hair going, so added BIG gold hoops and an asymmetrical semi-tuck.

#6 Friday - As YLF's anointed Queen Modern 70s, it's been so fun seeing everyone getting back into the flare groove! I've never stopped wearing mine, although currently I've only got baggy pairs. This is an unstructured volume-on-volume look which I know isn't for everyone and, while it's fun, to be honest I'm not sure it's for me either. I'd be much happier with flares that are fitted through the thigh, especially with longer tunic tops like this. Still working on that (pondering the Love Storys). I had the hardest time getting this swingy look to photograph! And if anyone has ever found themselves wondering, "hey what would Aida look like with bees circling curiously?" well I've included a photo that'll answer that for you ;)

#7 - Nails for the week, though I didn't do 'em until Tuesday night: diagonal mint with a shimmery turquoise. My tip for tape manicures like this: use electrical tape and quick dry oil!

I love look #1! I think it's flattering and fun.

That blouse in #2 is TDF on you!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ooh! You got the kitty print! It looks terrific on you. I love that outfit, of course, but the others are equally great. I can never get enough of that blush jacket, and it looks wonderful with the pants. #2 is just amazing on you; love the simplicity of the lines and the varied texture, and especially the juxtaposition.

These are terrific, Aida. How do you manage to look so fab everyday? You are so consistent that it makes it hard to pick faves. Love the blush moto with the graphic pants. The yellow flats are brilliant. I love seeing you re-mix your pieces too. That white top is really a work horse! Totally dig your new graphic sweater. It is such a fun print and love how the moto boots toughen up the look. Such a treat to have you back these days!

Great Aida, these are great. I've pinned your olive/white pin and studied your outfit deconstructions which I always find insructive.
Aida, what do you mean by completing the "three piece vertical line"?

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

Wow, you look amazing in all of these. The rockabilly look is so fun, but you have definitely earned your crown as Queen of Modern 70's. I especially love #3 and #4 with the fur vest and the beautiful hair.

You look fab in all of them! I love the flared pants and your manicure.

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Of course these all look great but I love #3 and I don't even like furry vests!

A faulous week of looks!  Love them all!

We are having rain today as well, which means no zip-lining for DS birthday...

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Aida, there is so much inspiration here. It's hard to pick favorites but 1 stands out because I adore that blush jacket and there is something about 5 on you that just looks right. The olive and white looks fresh. I forget. Have you paired the olive with your blush jacket?

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

I am curious if you use regular polish or that shellac stuff. How long does your manicure last?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Eep, you have the J. Crew cat blouse! Heh heh, I love the idea of wearing faux fur with a cat print - subtly thematic. I agree that you can handle more drama if you like (and of course you do)!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You are blowing me away with your '70s fabness in #3 and #4. WOW. Killer to the power of Killer. The fur vest is plenty dramatic - love the toothy grin. xo

I like the blush jacket with the plaid pants. Not sure about them with the yellow shoes.
    Love #2.
And your rockabilly hair is amazing.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

#2, 5 & 6 are my faves. I should do my furry vest too... they say (arghh! crazy weather!) it's going to rain again after a week of 80-90F temps.

I always love to gobble up your posts Aida! Love your style from plaid pants and blush to fur and flares. I love a bit of 70s and eclecticism. Looking good in the sassy curls too :)

Wow thanks for all the wonderful comments ladies :D So happy to hear #3/4 going over so well, I feel very at-home in this type of look.

Kelly, thank you, I'm flattered! I've a flexible work schedule (and no kids) so am able to take time getting ready each day, and that helps quite a bit. Good closet, YLF blog and member posts, and Pinterest all help a lot too. One of the most helpful things, though, is that I keep a list of outfit ideas jotted down as they come to me which I turn to any time I'm feeling uninspired or have less time. Re the nails, I use regular polish (lots of drugstore polishes at that). The topcoat (Seche Vite) is one of the keys; my manicures last between 4-9 days and I'm most often repainting due to nail growth rather than chipping. Since I get a lot of questions about it, I'm working on a more detailed nail post. Look for that in a week!

Latana, the 3-piece vertical line in this case is my hair, the duster collar, and the black boots. If you cover my boots with your hand, you'll see that the eye is drawn to the contrast of the white shirt and black collar; when the boots come back into play, the eye is instead drawn head-to-toe vertically. It's a less jarring overall effect, resulting in a smoother, longer, and leaner look. Of course, the long line of the collar helps a lot with that as well.

Joy, good question and I don't think that I have! I've jotted it down to try soon, thanks for the idea :)

Rae, yay you saw the kitty and fur theme! That's part of what I was so giggly about ^^

    Angie, ah I knew it was the crazy hair talking! I was thinking of something like the one below sans collar, where it has more coverage width-wise. I could make room for two, I'd love to get a gray one 0:}

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Uber-fab style, Aida!  I'm loving the flare outfit and that blush moto, particularly, but the whole collage is full of great spring looks.

.... and you have amazing manicure skills!  I pretty much clip and go with my hands, between playing instruments, gardening, working out and doing dishes.  My feet are where I wear my color!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thanks Beth Ann! I think I'm one of the few women who doesn't enjoy having polish on her toes, I much prefer them nude. I cook and garden a lot, and work at a computer all day (I don't play any of my instruments these days, but I did wear polish back when I did; you'd find polish shavings all over my guitar pickups ^^). They certainly chip a lot more quickly in spring/summer when gardening is heavier, but hey that's just an excuse to switch to a new color ;)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Not sure how it helps when all your outfits are favorites! Especially #1, and #3,4. But the others too.

  • Kiwichik replied 10 years ago

Like them all but I'm crushing on that first outfit and the fab manicure of course.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

I am learning as I read your posts Aida.
Love the new print tunic- fun!

I 'top-coat' my mani every 2nd day, and this sometimes extends them for a week or so.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Aida, I'm so impressed woth how analytical you are with your outfits. To me they just look more of the fabulous Aida. I especially love the kitty blouse woth the furry vest (very apropos ;) ) and what really makes the sweater for me is the curve of the black band. Super looks!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Oh I just saw these, thanks for commenting Shevia, KC, Lyn, and Pil!

Pil, that curved hem is a big reason I got the cardigan; if it were the normal straight rectangular cardigan cut, I wouldn't have. Re the analysis, yes I just seem to have that on all the time ;)

  • K. Period. replied 10 years ago

Oh! Good! This give me the chance to pop in!

    Hi!!! ((((Waving at shirt sister!))))

All fab, but I really totally love the blush moto with the windowpane pants. So gorgeous.
