WIW 07.23-27

After realizing the previous week that the shorter hair seemed to require more black, I paid closer attention to it this week. Still wore more black than usual, but managed an all light outfit on Thursday, and a only bit of black in a light print on Friday. It makes me happy to finally figure out how to do this with the short hair because I just don't like wearing very much black in the summer!

  1. Monday; worn to work and the grocery store. Been wanting to style another look with this crane tee, which surprisingly to me doesn't get worn all that much (not sure why, maybe it's the sleeve shape?). Went with my favorite way to wear black this season: with a healthy dose of white and emerald!
  2. Tuesday; worn to work then a last minute Mariner's game vs. Yankees to see NY Ichiro before he leaves Seattle. I've been wearing this hi-low top with gray or white tanks for the lower contrast, but today felt like trying black since I'm enjoying wearing higher contrast looks with the short hair. I decided to wear these printed flats to add both a bit more black and some fun pattern mixing. Also, circular earrings to contrast the sharp geo-print in the tee. It ended up being warm enough at the game that the jacket didn't get worn.
  3. Wednesday; worn out to lunch with my sister, then work and the gym. A somewhat unusual color combo I've been wanting to try for a while, fuchsia and coral. Since the black shorts are a faded black, I chose my distressed oxfords over my usual more refined footwear and am quite happy with how that turned out. Went with my blush purse because, well, there just wasn't enough pink yet (she said facetiously; I'm not a pink girl at ALL).
  4. Thursday; worn to work then the gym. After so many pants/shorts, I was in the mood to wear a dress so I decided to try an all light outfit and am quite happy that this soft color palette works just as well with short hair as it did with long. Also happy to find that I am liking my necklaces just as much as with long hair. This is one of my favorite cheapie jersey dresses, and I was bummed to find this morning that it's starting to pill. Going to try to the razor trick to see if I can coax a little more life out of it before it gets retired.
  5. Friday; worn to a quick stop by Nordstrom Rack (found a great rust colored jacket for fall!), post office, work, then date night with hubby. I know most of us (me included) are into the longer midi hems, but I do still like my shorter skirts; I decided to wear this one, along with the flats, because it's date night and hubbs is a legs guy who much prefers flats to heels. Quite enjoyed wearing the giant earrings even though they're not that visible. Love how they look peeking out from under the curls, will definitely be doing more of this.

'Husband' Jeans

Literally. On a whim last week I tried on a pair of my hubby's 527s and lo! They're pretty much exactly what I would want in a boyfriend style jean: Baggy with drop crotch? Check. Low rise? Check. Super faded wash and super soft denim? Check. No stretch? Check. Tapered leg? Nope, these are (unfortunately for me) bootcut as that's what hubby likes, but when I roll them up they're pretty much perfect because they're a slim cut. It makes me giggle to wear hubby's jeans ^^

I thought these were my husband's gardening jeans, so I asked if he'd give them to me. But apparently he does actually wear these so he said I could borrow whenever I wanted, though he phrased it as "Sure, but you know they don't look good on you right?" (Pff, husbands.) My sister, who I run most of my fashion stuff by, is NOT a fan of actual men's jeans for this look because of the crotch cut; she would very much prefer that I get a women's boyfriend cut jean instead of these.

So! What do you all think of these, ladies? Please pardon the "I just woke up" hair (I'd really just woken up), though I suppose it does add to the look ;) Yay or Nay on these jeans for me? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

WIW 07.17-20 (first week with short hair!)

I was very excited to see how my wardrobe feels with the new cut! I wouldn't say the cut is wardrobe item revolutionary, but it does take one less "accessorizing" step out in the morning (deciding how I'm going to style my hair for a particular outfit), and I love how it adds auto-spunk to everything (which I'd been using my high pony for). Will keep an eye out for any subtle style shifts. Nearly all of these are outfits I had jotted down to try quite a while back, that for some reason or other hadn't been worn yet. Because of that there's not a big change in style of my outfits of this week, though I have started eyeing some pieces that are more classic which I hadn't been wearing much lately.

One interesting thing I did notice after looking through this week's photos: I wore a lot more black than usual! I think with the longer hair it was dramatic enough to be a dark focal point on its own, and with the shorter hair it feels like I need a little more darkness to balance out. 3 of the 4 feature a good dose of black (and even the 4th has a little bit of black), whereas usually it'd be the reverse proportions (at least for summer).

  1. Tuesday; worn to work, then had a friend over to keg homebrew. I've had this outfit in my head for quite a while, and was happy that it finally "felt right" with the shorter hair. I know a lot of people don't like to wear black and orange together but I love it, especially with a healthy dose of white added in. And some bright cobalt doesn't hurt, either ;) Haven't worn these giant doorknocker earrings in a while, but I love how they looked buried in the shorter curls.
  2. Wednesday; worn to the post office, work, and stopping for take out for dinner. Been wanting to give these silky cargos another styling try; they're still a bit out of my comfort zone but I really like them, drop crotch and all. Was feeling bright so I went with bright turquoise and bright orange, with a nude shoe to keep things a little more toned down. Felt very sporty in this one.
  3. Thursday; worn to Nordstrom for NAS presale, mechanic, and out to dinner. Last summer I wore a LOT of this color combo, but for some reason haven't been into it much this year. Now that I have white jeans it's been popping into my head again. I wanted something comfy and easy to shop in for NAS, and specifically pants because I find shopping for tops in skirts never works out. However, it was WAY too hot for pants; needless to say the blazer didn't get worn much!
  4. Friday; worn for date night (sushi and a movie). First time wearing this linen shirt out (and it managed to rub a ton of orange off onto my white bag >< ). I quite liked how it looked paired with the gray jeans when I did the K/R post, but swapped to flats because hubby prefers them to heels.
