WIW 02.22-26 We have snow!

On snowy, icy, and torrentially rainy days my husband and I carpool to work, so for this week I asked him to take my outfit photos. SO much better than doing it myself! He's magical and somehow makes me look good even when I'm not feeling well (I'm looking at you, last 2 days). I'm debating whether or not I can handle waking up 2 hours earlier so I can have him take my outfit photos every day.

Separate from that, my wardrobe is not really built to handle extended snow since we don't get much of it, and it usually melts after a day anyway. I think I did OK, though I didn't dress much warmer/differently than normal. Wore my hair down more this week as per YLF request. Getting sick of seeing this red bag yet? I'm not, it goes with everything! :)

  1. Worn to work. Ended up leaving the scarf on.
  2. Worn to work. A twist on last friday's Chanel look, made more snow appropriate. Trying a new sheer red lip tint; I like it a lot and will probably wear near-daily.
  3. Worn to work. This turned out better than initially expected. Trying a new bright orangey-peachy lip gloss; not quite sure the color is right for me, but it could just need eye makeup to balance the brightness out.
  4. Worn to work.
  5. Worn to my folks' for dinner.
  6. Bonus: un-cropped shot with the snowy property :)

WIW 02.19-21 (added a note on how camera height effects proportions)

Weekend outfits plus Monday's (pre-snow).

  1. Worn out to breakfast Saturday with hubby and then to get car tabs. Fun story: When we walked into the DOL, the lady who helped us looked startled; after a moment she commented that she loved my coat and had worn one just like it in 1949. It made my day! Then in the evening we went out with a bunch of friends and I stayed up too late. Getting too old for that ;)
  2. Wasn't planning on getting dressed Sunday, but some of our friends wanted to come hang out and help my husband brew his first batch of beer. So I threw this on for essentially a day off at home.
  3. Worn to work Monday. I had this outfit in my head to try, but the sweater didn't play as well as I'd expected; it's too short and doesn't drape well. But I like the color palette a lot!

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

EDITED TO NOTE: For those interested in how camera height changes your proportions in photos: #1 was taken around knee height, #3 between hip/waist height, and #2 almost shoulder height. I'm wearing 3.5"-4" heels in all three of these, and the jeans in #1/2 are the same. More on this below.

Ask Angie: Ivory and White

I know people usually look better in one or the other but is it possible that someone will look equally fine in both cream/ivory and stark white?

WIW 02.17, 18 Feeling the French vibe

Feeling the French vibe apparently, though I think they both turned out less Parisian chic and more rock casual (surprise surprise). I like this vibe very much, I think it's perfectly within my personal style range. Both worn to work, #2 worn out to dinner as well.

  1. Based loosely off this Comptoir des Cotonniers look. Wearing my new navy polka dot scarf from Modcloth (thanks Una!).
  2. My take on the Chanel Gal on the Go look. This is something I'd likely have put together before having read the post, but after reading it certainly got the outfit in my head. I don't really do flower pins but I do love my flower cocktail ring.

WIW 02.12-16 (with Asos pearl pendant a la Inge)

Sorry for the mob of photos, but I wanted to post today's outfit (#5) for Inge and I was a tad behind :) Inge posted a lovely WIW with a giant pearl pendant which she kindly linked, and I scooped it up right away. It arrived in the mail this morning and I couldn't wait to wear it, so I did! Thank you Inge, I really love the pendant!

  1. Worn to run errands with my husband, super casual like.
  2. Worn to the Aquarium, our Valentine's tradition. We had brunch at Maximilien (delicious!), wandered around Pike Place Market, hit the Aquarium, and rounded off our Seattle time with a stop at World Spice to refill our pepper collection; finished the day off with a great meal at home. I had him take my outfit photo in front of the gum wall :) Also holding a new bag my folks gave me for Valentine's. Finally, I have a bright red bag and I love it!
  3. Worn to work. Olive tunic from the YLF swap last month. Requires a lot of gut sucking :)
  4. Worn to work. Felt like taking a day off, so I threw this on. Turned out OK.
  5. Worn to work. Showcasing the new Asos pendant! Also a new turtleneck; been looking for this color for 2 years now and finally found one. What is this green called? I never see it.

WIW 02.11 Fancy Friday

Wore this for our monthly Fancy Friday where we dress up all fancy and go out (this month it was me, hubby, and sister)! I was hoping to have the houndstooth sheath tailored in time but I put it off too long. I also wish I'd snapped a photo of my husband who was wearing his new custom tailored suit, but he grumbled when I reached for the camera. Next month I'm sneaking a photo of him!

I felt under dressed next to my husband, and after thinking about it I've decided that it has to do with how much dressiness difference we have going from our "normal" clothes to our "dressy" clothes. His normal is far more casual than mine, so when he's in a suit it really feels dressy. My normal ranges from casual to semi-dressy casual so my dressy feels less fancy. I've learned that my dressy capsule is sadly lacking and I haven't added anything except the houndstooth sheath, which still needs altering. Not wearing a slub-knit top would probably help too ;)

Anyway! Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

WIW 02.10 Sartorialist challenge

Well I put it off long enough! To my surprise I had a really hard time with this. For all of the images I clipped to try, my limited closet lacked the one item that really made the look (e.g. slouchy trousers, hiking boots, long heavy knit scarf etc.). I kept coming back to this black look which was the one that immediately called to me (#1), but since my loafers have heels I feel it really changes the vibe of the look (#2).

I wanted an outfit I would wear all day but unfortunately it was freezing this morning (literally), and I just had to change into a version with socks (#3, what I am actually wearing today). To keep one brown element I added my cropped vest and swapped to socks+flats in spirit of menswear. I may give this another try when it's at least 50F :)

WIW 02.09 semi-tucked look #2

Another semi-untucked look a la JCrew, based off the 3rd style on this blog post (my first one here). Didn't take a photo of it from the back this time but it looks normal. I apologize for the wet hair, just didn't have time to dry it this morning. The whole thing is even more relaxed looking now that my hair has dried (as seen in #2).

WIW 02.05, 07, 08

Couple outfits, experimenting as usual :)

  1. Worn Saturday to run some errands, then we had a bunch of friends over for a homebrew uncorking (what's it called for beer??) party. Enjoyed pairing the dotty socks with the stripes, it only showed when I was sitting down but it was noticed and complimented on :)
  2. Worn to work yesterday. Felt like looking a bit Northwestern with lots of layers, including a snood I was inspired by Anna to wear; I think the plaid was too soft in color for the teal, I'd wear stronger colors next time. Also sacrificed my usual leg-lengthening just for fun; I like the rolled jeans look but I rarely do it since I'm so short.
  3. Worn to work today, then out for the monthly local type gathering. Wanted to look slightly businessy, and had this color palette in my head to try out (brown, olive, navy, cobalt).

Ask Angie: Flared jean recommendation

I'm looking at getting either the GAP Long and Lean or the LOFT Marissa. I've tried the L&Ls in person, but not the Marissas and the LOFT site has no photo of them from the side. I prefer roomer jeans for this style but I do want the seat to fit fairly snugly (looser thighs are good though). Since you've fitted both of these in person and I have not, which would you suggest for me? Or do I have to go try them both on? :)

EDIT: I've a curvier shape, roomy rear, hips and thighs with smaller waist ;)

ANOTHER EDIT: Do you happen to know the hem measurements of both of these? I don't get why the websites don't show this.
