WIW 04.09-13

Here are a week of work outfits from a couple weeks ago! Starting to work in my new spring purchases, always feels nice and wardrobe rejuvenating. Also starting to use some different lip colors, pink (#1), peach (#3/5), and bright orange (#2/4).

  1. Monday, worn to the bank and then work. New top that's woven in front and knit in back (mullet shirt?), new loafers, and my new (and first) big statement necklace!
  2. Tuesday, worn to work then out to Type Tuesday (monthly gathering of locals interested in type). Following Angie's spring column of denim formula, though I wore nude/metallic sandals. I usually try to dress a bit more businessy on Type Tuesdays, but completely forgot about it so I was happy to at least be wearing a structured top half.
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. A short-over-long AND dress-over-jeans outfit! I'm loving short-over-long silhouettes this season, though I don't have many items that I can use for it. This feels a little more autumn than spring to me, even with the spring boots/accessories.
  4. Thursday, worn to work. I actually came up with Friday's outfit for this day but decided it would be better suited to the ball game. Wanted to try a spring look that's light but uses black accents (not something I do often). It worked better than I expected, I'll definitely be sporting it again.
  5. Friday, worn to work then out to a baseball game (Mariners home opener). New jeans, and I couldn't resist pairing them with orange (scarf) and coral (belt) ^^ Plus I just love how bright green looks with white/cream for spring!

WIW 04.20 oddball proportional play

One of the things I enjoy most with dressing is playing with proportions. Today I'm sporting an odd one: midi-bordering-on-cropped length culottes with ankle booties and an asymmetrically semi-tucked top. It's basically lengthening everything except my calves (and one side more than the other, heh). Part of why I feel that it works is because I have proportionally short thighs so adding length just makes them more "normal", and wearing heels gives me a bit more optical calf length to help even things out. Low contrast bottom half helps, too.

Bless my little camera for making my legs look proportionally correct and even a little long (they're not), but anyone who's taller than my thighs will see something much funkier let me tell you ;) I'm pretty pleased with the oddball proportions, though I know this won't be everyone's cuppa tea. What do you ladies think?

WIW 04.19 Mary's copycat mini-challenge!

Like Mary I take inspiration from all over the place, whether it's nature, conversation, TV, internet, YLF, my cat, you name it. Here's my little entry for Mary's internet copycat challenge!

OK so this isn't exactly a direct copy, but I loved Jessica's recent black, white, and tan outfit and knew when I first saw it that I wanted to try something similar. Unfortunately I don't have any tan toppers (!!). Military green is totally the next closest thing, right? ;) It does change the vibe quite a bit, and I did have to swap out nude shoes for a darker pair to keep things balanced since my jacket is dark, but I think the inspiration outfit is still pretty clearly represented.

I love how this outfit turned out! Thanks for the inspiration for inspiration, Mary :D Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

WIW 04.02-08

Hope you've all had a great week! These are actually the outfits I wore LAST week. My apologies for including so many photos in one post but it's been super busy at work so I didn't have time to split these across two posts like I'd planned.

  1. Mon, worn to work and out for tacos. Dark wash flares are now put away for the season, light wash flares are back in rotation! Also getting the furry vest back in.
  2. Tue, worn to work and run some errands. Sneaking in a couple more wool shorts looks on cooler days.
  3. Wed, worn to work. Also sneaking in a couple more tall boots looks while I still can :)
  4. Thu, worn to work and then to an arena football game. Ran into a friend I haven't seen for a few years who commented I "still dress like Aida". Not sure to take that as a good or bad thing since last I saw him I hadn't started my big style overhaul. Hubby didn't help by saying "maybe it's because you still dress weird" -_-
  5. Fri, worn to work, then double-date with my sis to a comedy show at the Tulalip Casino, then out for burgers. Hubby and I felt underdressed at the show, even though we were dressier than most of the people there.
  6. Sat, worn to a birthday BBQ for one of my good friends. One and only outing of these poor booties, at least in this color. I will post an update about them this weekend!
  7. Sun, worn to easter dinner at my folks'. I don't really wear pastels, so this was about as eastery as I could manage.

Boutique 9 "Bailar" peep toe oxford (covered in oil)

Hi ladies. I wore my new Boutique 9 peep toe oxfords today, and managed to step one foot and shoe into a pan of dirty motorcycle oil (don't ask -_-). They are no longer available in my size. If anyone who bought these from Amazon for the $40 got them in multiple sizes in the taupe color, happens to still have a size 8 that's waiting to be returned, and would be willing to sell them to me for cost of shoe+shipping please PM me. I'm really, really bummed right now :(

WIW 03.28-31

A few outfits from the end of last week and this past weekend. We've been having some tumultuous weather, sunny one day, torrential rain the next. Ahh, spring in the PNW.

  1. Wednesday, worn to work. A variation on my taupe shorts+tall boots outfit from last week, but this time the color is from the jacket instead of the scarf. This is a new scarf with a fun bird print (you can find it here in black, navy, and this here taupe!). It was warm enough to wear textured hose instead of sweater tights, yay!
  2. Thursday, worn to work. Pouring, POURING rain this day hence the goofy left pose because there was just no way I could get more than a couple shots. This outfit was inspired by Joy's cute graphic tee outfit!
  3. Friday, worn to work and out for date night dinner. Wanted to give this cashmere sweater one last spin before putting it away for the season. The buttoned up collar felt very cheeky :) I really like how the purple looks with my fuchsia/orange nails.
  4. Saturday, worn to breakfast, a couple home improvement stores, lunch, and gardening (yep). I'm sure you gals will find that story amusing: someone ran into our mailbox and we had to buy a new one, so we also bought some pretty flowers for the yard. When we got home I told David that I wanted to take my outfit photos and then change before planting, and he gave me the "I'll be done with this by the time you're done" look. So I planted flowers for an hour in my trench and 3" heels (took the scarf and purse off, at least). You can see a few of the flowers behind me in the photos ^^

AT slouchy pants take 2: petite vs regular?

Thanks to Una I was able to try a pair of the AT slouchy trousers in my size but petite instead of regular. To my (big) surprise I'm liking the petite fit better!

The regular pair would certainly need to be hemmed before I could wear them out, but after looking at the petite I'm wondering if the regular pair is too baggy (both pairs are baggy/slouchy; the regular is just baggiER/slouchiER.). As I said in my other thread I will be back to my normal size in the next month or two, which will put me about 0.5-0.75 pant sizes smaller.

The tan pair in #1/3 is the regular, the orange pair in #2/4 is the petite. Ignoring color and keeping my upcoming shrinkage in mind, which fit do you ladies prefer? Angie I hope you can weigh in on this, too. Again, I'm thick skinned :) Thanks!
