WIW 05.27 [olive - graphic and free flowing]

Today I was up early for an early morning eyebrow appointment (finally!), but this time I planned my outfit ahead so I wouldn't have to think while sleepy. I purposefully picked something I knew would work (the tank and cardigan is a favorite combo) and had a backup plan for the shoes in case the BIG roll didn't work (black metallic-capped flats). Needless to say it was a much less stressful morning!

I don't think I've ever worn the top half with white bottoms before, usually it's black or denim. But of course it's no surprise that I just love all the white, makes me feel much happier. White is definitely giving my olives new life! I debated (briefly) rolling the jeans more normal/small but thought the BIG roll was fun; I think I'd like it even better on skinnies vs. straights like these. It's a little less impactful without the contrast lining as you'd get with dark washed denim, which is just fine in this outfit. I'm also glad it worked because I love how the ankle strap looks with the stripes up above. Finished with retro sunnies and sequined clutch to play up the retro vibe of the ankle shoes and pomp-pony. I think this might be the best I've ever gotten this lightweight rayon cardigan to photograph!

In camera news -- I didn't have a good non-sunny place to shoot that early in the morning, so I got to play with the new camera's built-in HDR mode which worked quite nicely. I added a fun windy+nonHDR photo (#3), which shows a big difference in softening the angled sunlight (as well as how airy the cardi is!). I have to say, the camera's color capture is pretty amazing; I'm not needing to do much if anything to prep my outfit photos, though I'm having some "new camera user" issues with consistency ;) Bonus macro iris photo (#4) straight out of the camera, all I did was crop it (this is a near 100% crop).  Not too shabby for a compact camera!

You look very elegant yet comfortable, love the stripe top and shoes together. I'm amazed how tall you look while rolling the pants; mostly I can't seem to manage that!

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! Olive and white is so pretty! Love the striped top in this too. You are on to something with three colors especially when one of them is white. I'm going to have to play around with that theory. That third color adds some pizazz! Gorgeous ankle strap wedges too! So fab, Aida!

Gorgeous and truly effortless looking outfit. Love the drapey cardi over the black and white. And your camera is surely a winner :) ... I am still learning the settings and playing around with it every now and then. But I almost never do any post processing except for cropping. Indoor photography with weird lighting is the toughest part for me :(

I really like these colors together, and the stripy top is really fun.  YLF!

I've always loved those kind of striped shirts! I've always wanted one but I can't seem to find the right type!

And btw, you look amazing as always! I really like those shoes!

Olive with graphic black and white rocks!! Great swing sweater :D

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you very much, ladies! :D

Columbine, there's a lot going on here to help keep things looking long. The cardigan is a big factor on its own. The lack of skin showing around the roll helps, but so do the shoes; although they have the black strap the foot being low contrast against the pants helps mitigate that. The diagonal stripes on the top also help, as do the echoed black elements sprinkled throughout vertically.

Kelly, hey you know me and my colors! I'd love to see what you do.

Neel, the post-processing I was doing before was really just to up the contrast and color to be more vibrant. The new camera just shoots that way to begin with, which is a great time saver! Do you adjust the white balance? Sometimes you just need to set a custom white balance in those weird lighting situations to get things looking right.

Gorgeous outfit. Aida have considered folding the hems of my skinny jeans like this but wasn't sure it was "acceptable"... But if you're doing it, it's all good. This is a stunning combo and I think the footwear just shoots it out of the ball park.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

You look so happy in these pictures!  Is that because you were the one who got the last pair of those shoes in 6.5 off Amazon?  I'd be smiling too (I tried! but sold out).

I like the swingy top and your photo shoot pose; have you ever thought of doing fashion photography?

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

Very lovely, the wrap flows smoothly and that clutch, yes.

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

Love this Aida!!! One of my favourites recently. I think if the top was just a tad bit shorter the proportions might have been slightly better, but I can see past that. I will try my own take on this as soon as our weather allows it, it really is fab.

    And happy belated birthday *hug*

love the long drapey cardigan with that top, i would have never thought of that, but i have a similar tee, so i'm taking notes.  also love the larger roll, i've been playing with it as well.
great outfit, and i love the beautiful flowers and rock wall  in your garden.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

I love the stripes with the shoes and have always been attracted to the big fold/roll-up. So clever to do it with white jeans! And great combination with olive.

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

What a genius idea to give your olives a new life by combining them with white. Although I am not much of a cardis fan but this outfit looks so much fun. Also, how do you make the big roll work? Are these skinnies when you unfold them?
I am so glad that you are enjoying your new camera.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 9 years ago

I like that big fold, too. I have been trying it out with black jeans that have zippers at the bottom (Emerson Fry Micks) and was very satisfied with the result and had just decided I should see how it would look with white. Looks great here...the olive is a non obvious combination that comes off very well.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Wow, I like it all! T think the white pants did a great job for the top half here, and those shoes, are a dream! it's a pitty we cannot see your new brows:-),  but the sunnies are great , too!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thanks ladies!

Denise, hehe no I was not that last 6.5 though I do have an extra 8 I need to send back still. Hmm I think the happier faces are courtesy of hubby who was warming his car up. I tend to have better smiles around people! I haven't given much though to fashion photography beyond my daily outfit photos; I think I'd be better behind the camera than in front though ;)

Ornella, yes I thought that too! I'm actually thinking of having the straps shortened a bit which might bring the height up enough. It's very long, those white skinnies are properly slouchy and it covers the dropped crotch point!

Kkards, thank you for the compliment on the landscaping! It was one of the reasons we were attracted to the property, it feels a lot like a park.

Mona, these are straight legs. That allows the roll to make it up a lot higher on the calf than normal skinnies with a small hem opening, but it also leaves a wider hemline than I'd like. I think a normal skinny or slim straight hem opening would work best.

Lyn, ah these photos were pre eyebrow apt so the sunnies were necessary, but I did today's without the glasses so you can see the cleaned up brows :D

I'm a little late to this outfit post but I just had to chime in to say I love it! And where did you get that fabulous striped top? I love the length of it and the directional stripes. My fingers are crossed that it's still available.

My irises are just starting to bloom too :)

  • replied 9 years ago

I seriously love this! Olive and white... gorgeous. I actually really like the way the stripes on your top all go in different directions. I could even be convinced to wear stripes myself like that. I have a weird dislike of wearing ordinary horizontal stripes. I know, strange eh?

I'm impressed with your new camera. I've been playing a little with my own new one too. That macro shot is fab.

  • Debora replied 9 years ago

Ooh, I really love this! Love the olive and white tougher, and I love how the shoes complement the stripes. Superb, Aida!

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

What a fun outfit. Love it.

2014 Fabness. Your style quotient is sizzling, Aida. xo

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

    You look amazing!

  • Laurie replied 9 years ago

Does anyone else say things out loud to themselves when they hit an amazing photo on this forum?!  this one evoked, "I reallllly love this...."   The stripes (of course. and i have this top in other colors), the juxtaposition of the flowy cardigan and the great shoes.  And I am just loving white jeans / bottoms this year a lot.

     I realllly love this, Aida!

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

I would have never thought to pair white with olive. Great outfit and I love the flowy cardigan! And I like how the roll on skinnies show off the ankle straps.

Beautiful flower pic! Is that one that's you've grown?

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

So glad to see a drapey cardi styled in such a fresh way!  I love mine, but feel my stylings are a little stale -- now I have some new ideas!

The iris shot is amazing!  It would make fabulous wall art -- or a great graphic tee, screened onto silk!

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

A really fun outfits.  I've been enjoying stripes this year.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

What a lovely surprise to see more comments on this thread! Thank you all very much ^^

Karie, alas the striped top is a few years old and no longer available.

K, yes the iris is one from my garden. Usually they get rained on and don't last very long, but this spring has been unseasonably dry so I get to enjoy them to their fullest.
