WIW 12.06-12.10 (hair only!)

This past week I tried a new hair suggestion from you lovelies each day. (Clothing thread here.)

  1. Pinned back parts of my bangs underneath the sides. Nice way to have my hair out of my face but not behind my ears (which I dislike).
  2. Used my curling iron all around, though it doesn't quite get hot enough for all-day hold.
  3. French twist, semi-successful; harder to do than expected, and apparently I'm bad at bobby pinning but at least it stayed in all day ;)
  4. Blowing it out straight; I should've used my flat iron on top because the outdoor humidity made it curl at the ends, and would've helped with frizz.
  5. Poofy bang attempt #2, more successful than last but still needs practice.

It was a lot of fun, though it was definitely out of my comfort zone. I still have lots of ideas from you all to try: mod headband (actually did this yesterday), learn to french braid, 40s style waves with a larger curling iron, spunky curly bun/pony, and of course getting the cut updated.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I plan to keep trying new things, though maybe every other day or two so it's less stressful :)

I really like 2--side part with loose curls. So pretty! I think I like it best when your natural waves frame your face. The french twist is pretty too.

Thanks Kelly, I think those loose curls were my favorite of the week as well. It was interesting to try both soft and more severe dos, they certainly change my look more than I'd expected.

I am also a fan of #2. #1 is a good solution to an annoying problem, though! I don't experiment enough with my hair. I just get out of the shower, comb it and then I'm done. I can never get a french twist to work, but I tried it when my hair was much longer, so perhaps I should give it another go. I'm also not much on hairspray or bobby pins, so I can see why I've had limited success ha ha. Good for you for giving them all a try!!

#2 and #3 are my faves. Very flattering on you.

I love your hair both up and down ...on your face and off!! You have beautiful hair!

nice effort! i like #2 the best.

    Thanks everyone!

Mo - That's what I usually do too, just comb and let air dry. Shortly before starting this experiment I'd taken to blowing the roots only for some volume then letting it air dry, which seems to help make it look slightly more styled. Like you I'm also a bit averse to spray, pins, hair things in general so this has been a real stretch, and steep learning curve. Worth it though, I think.

Becky - I'll certainly be doing both the curling iron and French twist again!

Taylor - Thanks very much! It's been interesting to really treat my hair as an accessory, and I'm glad to hear you say you like it both on and off my face!

Mellllls - It was certainly a lot of effort (since it was all new!), I'm not sure I have the energy to do this every day ;)

I also like #2 best! You rock your natural curls, Aida.

    I prefer 1, 2 and 3! Don't like to see your hair straigt ;)

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

I like 2, 3, and 5. Way to take the bull by the horns.

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

#2 is my fave, love the volume there.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

The general consensus seems to be keep it curly :) Thanks so much for all your input and comments, they're extremely valuable and helpful to me. I feel much more confident about experimenting with my hair now!

(Rute - I think it looks weird straight too, but I figure it's because I'm so used to the curls! I'll probably go back to not straightening it often, though I liked how it looked with the menswear-ish outfit.)

RE: your hair straight--I don't think it looks weird at all. I do think it needs to look smoother and a little slicker--flat iron would probably do the trick.

  • Mellllls replied 13 years ago

i wish i knew of so many ways to style my hair!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Kelly - You're definitely right about needing the flat iron, but I don't think I'll ever get used to how I look with straight hair ;) I have both a curling and flat iron on my Xmas list, so fingers crossed I get them.

Mellllls - I didn't either until I asked on the forum. I got so many great suggestions that I'd never have thought of myself!

  • Mellllls replied 13 years ago

that's great aida! one of these when i have time, i might try that!
