WIW 06.15 [father's day at the museum]

For father's day my dad requested a trip to the Seattle Asian Art Museum which is showing, among others, a wonderful exhibit "Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920-1945". I personally adore Deco art so I really enjoyed it!

After looking at the site for the exhibit, one of the pieces that was posted stuck in my head (#3). I feel like it sums up my current style preferences quite perfectly: a lovely mix of soft and geometric, and even the color scheme itself (cream, pink, light blue, gray/taupe, black) is right up my alley these days. So my outfit for the day was inspired by that piece, complete with Deco clutch and earrings.

There was rain in the forecast, but it only dropped in the morning; I wore my cream trench out for breakfast with hubby before heading to Seattle, but happily by the time we were done in the museum the rain had passed. So the trench sat in the car while we all enjoyed a nice stroll around the Volunteer Park grounds. I had thought about wearing my gray suede ankle strap pumps, but with impending rain decided to go with white leather and actually better liked the crisper look the white gave. Finished the look off with retro sunnies, and wore plum lip gloss for extra color interest.

Big high happiness factor! And a rare sighting: non-weekend casual outfit with blue skinny jeans, which I actually didn't own until this pair. This baggy and ultra faded pair gets a pass, but otherwise I plan to stick to my usual black, gray, and white skinny jeans along with the occasional fun bright/printed denim. But no standard blues, just not my thing :)

Pastel pink and blue and white - fresh and soft - lovely! I love how you got inspiration from the museum's poster.
Actually I really crave this faded soft denim color for my summer bottoms. I don't  have it at all since I passed on my Kut BF jeans as being too big. I find this color working so well both  with summer brights and summer pastels - and white of course. I have a denim moto in this shade but no jeans :-(

    OooH! Kitty twin!!

I love this inspired pastel pairing. I would never have thought to put the blue blouse with blush, but it is a lovely combination on you. Especially with the pretty white pumps. The poster is a picture-perfect challenge!

What Sveta said about the jeans, by the way. I do not have a pair as faded as this and I find myself craving them. If I find the right pair, I just might spring.

I didn't even know Japanese Deco was a thing! Very cool and love your interpretation.

Lovely soft colours. I like the layering of jacket over un-tucked shirt and your Deco accessories are gorgeous!

The soft colour palette is lovely on you. How fun to draw inspiration from an art piece. Love the fit of these skinnies on you.

I like the combination of blue with blush pink, all paired with the cream shoes. That kitty shirt is adorable! Outfit inspiration is everywhere - how cool that you got it from the art poster. Sounds like a great exhibit.

Thanks for the lovey comments, ladies! If you're in the Seattle area I'd definitely recommend the exhibit, it was all kinds of good eye candy ^^ Plus if the weather is nice, the park grounds are always a nice walk. I'd been hoping to also check out the Conservatory but unfortunately it was closed by the time we finished.

Sveta and Suz, YES! I was also craving this kind of light wash the last two years. So much so that I pounced on two pairs of ultra faded jeans this year, one skinny and one BF. I particularly enjoy wearing them with all of my whites and lights for an overall light look versus a more high contrast look with darker washes (which I still like, but I like proper high contrast). I hope you both find your ultra faded denim soon!

Just stunning!  Your poster inspiration is lovely too.  I thrifted a very faded pair of skinny jeans that I love but boyfriends in that light denim would be wonderful.
