WIW 06.10 [look who's sporty now]

Anna posted these pale yellow/mint/blush slip-ons a month ago, and at the time I collected them as a fun potential pastel slip-on for my weekend capsule. I kept thinking about them, and was surprised to see that I was the only one who'd collected them. And, truthfully, the contrarian in me rather liked that no one else had; not that I would mind otherwise, I mean this is the GAP -- about as mass market as it gets. I ordered a pair immediately. Well, two pairs, my usual two half-sizes, and the website listed as sold out shortly afterwards [EDIT: Looks like they're back in stock now]. They finally arrived late last week, and to my dismay GAP sent me two pairs of the larger size! But due to the GAP's somewhat inconsistent quality on sizing, one pair fits a bit smaller than the other (hooray for once). I love them so much that I am going to happily trot out there in far chunkier white soles than I would ever have expected to be comfortable in. If I can't get used to how I look in these cutie-pie sneakers, then there is no hope for me ;)

So for the first time I am able to sport a sporty-luxe outfit that has actual sporty footwear (which has always been my primary luxe). The whole bottom half is actually rather sporty with the rolled relaxed jeans, but then less sporty because the jeans are white. The luxe comes from the oversized silk-sleeved sweater and giant gold hoops, both of which would be sporty on their own in different fabrication/scale, plus a double coat of mascara. The energetic striped hard clutch has a sporty feel to it, too. Debated going light on the lip color, then debated going bright... But decided that I needed my small chaotic element so chose a darker plum gloss instead. Overall more luxe than sporty (no surprise), and yet sportier than other sporty-luxe outfits I've worn (big surprise). VERY happy with how the whole thing turned out, "chunky" sneakers and all! Thanks for the fab find, Anna ^^

I also ended up with matching nails, though that wasn't my initial plan. I'd expected the yellow to be brighter and the white to be whiter, and since the contrast wasn't high enough I added the mint "stripe" (with a dotter, which isn't the best option for painting lines heh). Not what I'd planned but fun nonetheless.

    As Ms. Mary would say.....

    PLONK!!!!

This is sensational! I love everything about it, especially your smile.

One of my faves on you yet.

Beautiful! I love the clutch, how it stands out. And the lip gloss is eye-catching but not OTT. Everything is bright and springy!

I see what you mean about the light footwear making your hair stand out as an accessory (you mentioned that on my nude heels thread). It really makes your face the focal point of the outfit. I'll have to keep watching your WIWs and think about the role your shoes play. :)

This looks great! I love the accent of the black and white clutch, the perfect finishing touch. I do not see the chunkyness at all in these sneakers. I was expecting a darker lip color from your description, but it looks perfectly fresh and pretty in the photo. And I vote that a double coat of mascara counts as sporty if it is waterproof :)

Ooooh!!!! Love that pale yellow! And the nails!!!!

Hooray for finding your gateway sporty sneakers!  I have toyed with the idea of the Madden Ecentric ponyhair dalmatian ones.  Maybe this fall.
The nails are too fun!  I have no patience for nail upkeep so I rarely paint them.

Beautiful sporty luxe look! I like the soft colored sweater with the white jeans, and the silky sleeves definitely give the look its luxury. Is the sweater cream or yellow? It seems to echo the shoes in any case, and what cute shoes they are. The sneakers were meant to be yours, apparently, seeing as how your nails just happened to end up in the same colors.

A cool spring look...like a lemon sorbet! Congrats on finding your sporty sneaker!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Wow!. You look beautiful in pastels and whites! The shoes are really pretty and go very well with your style persona. Perfectly Aida Style Sporty Luxe with those pretty nails!

(Psst .... I tried something yesterday with my nails inspired by you. But I didn't quite love the end result. Pretty lumpy and weird! But here's it anyway!)

Now that's how to do sporty. Just my cuppa :) I love the gap sneekers with this. I also like the clutch and earrings which add your unique touches. Fab!

A fantastic sporty luxe outfit, I love your attention to detail! The silk sweater and gold earrings bookend nicely with your new sneaks. I'll bet those sneaks are super comfy, too!

  • merwoman replied 9 years ago

Simply amazing how everything has come together in a totally authentic Aida way!  Brilliant sporty luxe look - nay I say playful!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

Those sneakers are great on you! And the outfit just looks so crisp and cool.

Since I also feel weird in anything too sporty, your thought process was fun to read.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

Those sneakers are almost too cute and pretty to be sporty! I absolutely love this on you. Your nails are genius with the shoes. You take Having Fun With Fashion to new levels!

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

You look like lemon sorbet! What could be better than that? The little black and white bag is so perfect here. Sporty Luxe winner!

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

Great soft color palette with the geometric clutch as your accessory. Great look Aida :)

Aw thanks so much ladies! I was surprised at how good I felt in this outfit, despite wearing my least favorite style of shoe. I'm sooo thrilled to have found a sneaker that actually makes me feel happy to wear! They're about as comfortable as any other flat shoe is for me, which is only moderately, but that's perfectly fine. Don't think I'll be adding to the weekend capsule though, I'd like to keep these clean and fresh looking. So just the chambray Vans in the capsule, which is enough for now.

Gigi, exactly! While I greatly value an interesting outfit, I also try to make it so the focus still draws the eyes up to my face. Vertical lines are nice (which is what the bookending nets us), but they are more of a secondary focus for me. I'm fairly outgoing, so in person I don't think it's much of an issue ;)

Gracie, the sneakers are certainly not conventionally chunky, hence the "chunky", but believe me -- for me that sole is quite chunky!

Mo, oh how fun! I bet those would be a great luxe slip-on for your current black/white graphic kick ^^

Firecracker, the sweater body is a creamy tan and the sleeves a true cream.

Neel, your nails look super! I don't see lumpy at all, and most people who look at your nails won't either so I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

Merwoman, OOOH. Playful is a great thing for me to keep in mind with sportier looks, I think that's what I need to aim for in sporty outfits: a dose of luxe, a dose of pretty, and a dose of playful. Thank you!!

What a lovely colour combo! pastel and bright white. I want to buy these sneaks right away but I am trying to hold off. Hmmm....

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks Mona! I have to say that the sneakers are actually a bit more comfortable than I'd expected (sneaker's aren't very comfortable for me), though if you have high arches and a high instep it may be a big snug along the top of the foot as it is with me. I've noticed that they are back in stock in this colorway *wink nudge* :)

  • pil replied 9 years ago

Just now seeing this, Aida. I remember reading that flats aren't your favorite shoe but these are so perfect here. I love the simple silhouette and cool (on my screen) colors. Really, really nice! I was expecting to see your Mariners sweatshirt!

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

I'm really enjoying light jeans/trousers this season, so this is a favorite outfit so far from your WIWs this season for me.  And how fun are those nails!  I'm glad you showed a close up view.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thanks Pil and Lisa!

Pil, hah no Ms hoodie this time ;)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

This is sporty luxe I can totally get behind! Good find on the slip on sneakers - i am yet to find ones comfortable for me...

Pretty Sporty Fabness. This looks so right on you, Aida. xo

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

OMG Aida you absolutely blew me away with this!!! So simple, sporty, and perfect! I just love the addition of the stripey clutch. This all looks like a fresh wisp of lemon meringue goodness :)

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

Such a great, fun outfit all around. You look really pretty in these pale colors and the white and it's true that your hair is like the perfect accessory here. YLF!
