WIW 06.13, 14 [casual in sneakers + faded denim]

Two casual outfits from late last week, variations on a theme: top + faded jeans + sneakers. Pardon the two-up duplication in #1, that's so I can see both outfits when I search my posts ^^

(Opening weekend of the Everett Aquasox, the Mariners Single A Short Season baseball team, which is my personal unofficial start to summer. During their short season hubby and I enjoy stopping by after work on the way home for a hotdog and a game, which doesn't cost much more than eating out would ^^)

#2,3 - Friday: worn to work then to baseball game #1. A slightly dressier version with the silky top and hard clutch. Still getting used to sneakers, so I pulled out an old red pair to test out a more colorful sneaker look (it's OK, not my fave). The forecast was for R-A-I-N, but luckily it just threatened without materializing; I grabbed a hoodie for the game (avert your eyes, Karie!), although it was waaaay colder than expected and I wished I'd worn a proper Big Coat.

I didn't feel super in this outfit, although it's not bad, and actually felt better with the hoodie on because it added some structure. I'm guessing that between the slouchy hat, oversized soft shirt, extra baggy faded denim, and sneakers it all just felt a bit too sloppy for me that day. Without the evening's constraints, I'd have swapped the sneakers for dressier refined shoes, rolled up the sleeves, and put my hair up for even more structure. (I did actually quite like the long torso proportions, so wouldn't have semi-tucked.) Probably I should've just came up with something else to wear and saved this one for another day when I could make those tweaks.

#4,5 - Saturday: worn to the grocery, out dirt biking, out for dinner, then baseball game #2. Another outing utilizing my budding active-casual capsule, so far so good. However, I can already tell that I'm not going to want as many tees as I'd initially planned so I'll need to swap a prospective few out for prospective woven tops. That might be tough though, we'll see how that goes. For riding the only piece I kept on was the tee (100% cotton), everything else was replaced with riding gear and my hair was down in the helmet. Once we were done and packed up, I changed back into my jeans/belt, sneakers, earrings/watch, and then put my hair up with the headband (to help hide crazy lumpy hair underneath!). Much happier than staying in grubby gear, although no stops along the way this time. Later when we went to the game, I ditched my purse and popped on a jacket; we got to enjoy the rain that was supposed to hit the previous night and, even with a blanket, yet again I wished I'd worn a proper Big Coat.

Totally, totally  hear you on the lack of structure in #1. I actually really like the pieces and you look terrific, as always, but this would be too far in the loosey-goosey non-dressy camp for me, so I get what you are talking about.

In contrast, #2 works briliantly to my eye. I love the pastel Vans, and think having your hair up that way adds just the structure you need.

Your casual capsule and its development is such an inspiration!

I looked at the pictures before I read your post, so my eyes were not averted! After my initial head shake over seeing the Mariners logo, I thought, "Well, at least she wore red, and that's a Phillies color!"

I love the pattern subtle pattern mixing between the shirt and belt in #4, and the green bag adds a nice pop of color.

    Fantastic casual outfits!

What Suz said re- #1 I tend to agree that for me that would feel too un-structured as well. I prefer with the hoody on.

In #2 I like the subtle pattern mixing from your tee, headband and belt. Very nice! Plus I love the colour of your bag.

Your bookend cloche and tennies made me smile...Great look...My favorite of all is the navy Mariners sweatshirt look...That is just TDF...I definitely think you nailed it with these casual outfits...

You got into the sneaks thing fast, Aida. Brilliantly done. xo

hi Aida! looking good! i hear you on outfits that just do not work for you, even if you get compliments - i know i for one am incredibly picky.  But it's better to look fab whilst you're not feeling as fab as you like, so high five :)

I like the way you're tying in the colored sneaks with the rest of your look - bookending with your hat is great (yay hats!), but i like the tone on tone of your second look even better. To my eye, keeping the whole look in very similar tones ties things together and gives the look a ladylike, 'dressy' feel while avoiding a fussy matchy-matchyness. It gives your legs a long line as well.  I like it much better than i would have with a white sneak and actually think a white sneak would have given this particular look a more 'casual' vibe than what you've chosen.

Happy day and thank you for sharing this process with us - i know it takes a lot of time and effort, and it's very helpful :) steph

Super cute.  Love the hairband and the sneakers.  I like the jeans and tee with and without the hoodie.

Outfit 2 is fantastic and I love the belt with the outfit! Very unexpected and yet fun! Cool sneaks too.

Outfit 1 is a bit baggy for my liking too. I am not used to seeing Aida in so much bagginess! And I love it with the hoodie. So yes, something to reign in the bagginess would be nice like you said.

Cute hat and headband in both outfits!

My favorite is the one with the light blue sneakers and stripes. Although the other one says Seattle to me (remember my visions were formed 20+ years ago).

Thanks for all the comments and feedback, ladies! :D

Suz and Steph, thank you for the especially detailed comments, I really appreciate your well-honed eyes.

Angie, hah well I figured the best way to get my eyes adjusted to sneaks would be to just start wearing the heck out of 'em! I don't know that I'm totally used to seeing them on my feet yet, but I'm coming around.

Karie, ah well at least I tried ;)
