Feeling chatty, feel free to skip ahead to the photos :)

The weather continues to be dreary with only a brief reprise on Friday, so again I wanted to wear color every day and again skirts are my silhouette change of choice. I wanted to branch out from all the blues/greens I've been wearing, which is hard because unfortunately other colors aren't well represented in my spring/summer wardrobe! That said, I was able to sneak in some red, violet, and yellow this week, yay!

  1. Monday, worn out shopping with my sister and mom, then hubby and I met friends for tacos. Based on one of my outfits from the last art challenge (#3). I wanted a shopping outfit that wasn't too simple to help keep me focused on only the best stuff. I bought 2 necklaces, a black/white printed blouse, a coral casual jacket, the cardigan in #4, and the pretty blush purse in #2/3 as replacement of the returned birthday-gift-from-hubby KS purse. Very successful!
  2. Tuesday, worn to run errands then to my brother-in-law's high school graduation ceremony. Interesting mix of dressiness at the ceremony, from fleece+jeans to a handful in cocktail attire (overall women were quite a bit dressier than men). I wanted something dressy-but-not-too-dressy, and this fit the bill nicely. Hubby had wanted to wear his custom made dress slacks but doesn't have any shirts nice enough to pair, so he ended up wearing a nice button-up shirt with jeans. We got SERIOUSLY RAIN POURED on, and I actually had to use an umbrella (!!); Seattlites will understand the exclamation ;)
  3. Wednesday, worn to work and grocery store. Still raining, but rather warm and muggy this day. Opted for a jersey dress with some subtle pattern mixing, and of course plenty of bright cheerful colors. I quite like how the cognac heels look with these oceany colors.
  4. Thursday, worn to work. Not really dry enough for wide hems, but I felt like wearing them anyway. I'd been wanting the JCrew shorts made of this lovely violet Ikat print for a while now, but was happy to find the cardigan instead on Monday. Sized up for slouchiness, but I'm wondering if maybe I should've stuck with my normal size since I'll be wearing this primarily as a top (buttoned up). White footwear in honor of Angie's post that day!
  5. Friday, worn to work then out for date night dinner and dessert. An actual warm, sunny day! I enjoyed wearing this breezy skirt last week and couldn't wait to wear it again. Went with a ribbed tank and a cropped denim jacket (still LOVING this faded beauty, so another thanks to whomever brought it to the swap back in May!) to keep things casual but summery, and add some subtle print mix with the snakeskin heels. I just love how breezy this skirt is! And I felt SUPER in this outfit. The perfect mix of urban and boho <3
  6. Bonus photo of the updo from the outfit in #2 (it was much less frizzy before the rain got to it). I did my usual fanned bun, but split the hair in front in half then twisted it around itself before pinning in the back (bottom photo). Also added several bobby pins in the back for a messy "pintucking" effect (top photo). [UPDATE: Pseudo instructions on this bun in my reply to Rae below.]

A stellar week Aida! Everything is gorgeous, but something about #5 just takes my breath away.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooooh, I don't think I've seen that blush bag before! So fun with the red-orange. I also love your purple shirt tucked into the jeans. That updo is so pretty! I cannot get my hair to fan like that - it looks amazing!

Really nice week of outfits. My faves are 3 and 4.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Aida, you took away those overcast skies with all of these pretty outfits! What happened to the KS purse? It didn't work out? Casual sophistication in #1 and obviously it worked as you enjoyed a very successful shopping day! The colors in #2 are spectacular and you rock this look with your updo #6, which I like very much. Love the new bag. The ocean colors in #3 and your cognac heels serve as the sand to welcome them...very nice! Not sure on the larger size on #4; I'll let other pros weigh in. #5 Perfection.

Love the purse - of course you knew I would, since I'm carrying it's first cousin today! Again, it's one of those weeks where I can't pick a favourite. They are all fantastic in their own way.

Love the fresh colour pairing in #1.
You are rockin' that colourful pencil skirt in #2 and adore the two-toned pumps.
Blue and turquoise in so yummy in #3 (love those heeled oxfords too!)
Fab casual boho chic in #4.
Such a soft and flowy skirt paired just-so with that faded jacket in #5.
Dare you try and get MY hair to do what yours is doing in #6!!!

    Thank you ladies!

Rae, the blush purse is new and I am loving having more light bags to choose from! My hair is usually unruly but the "fan" is kept in place with lots of bobby pins, and the hair around it also props it up: I do a high pony, fan the base half of the hair, twist the rest and wrap it around the rubber band; I use flat bobby pins on either side of the fan to hold it in place, then use those U-shaped pins to keep the wrap in place as well as at the bottom of the fan to prop it up (dunno if that made sense?). Maybe I should write up an actual tutorial with photo steps for my blog, hmm...

Vicki, unfortunately the KS purse was too large and the colors didn't jive with my wardrobe so I sent it back. I love the idea of the cognac being the sand to the ocean in #3!

Shannon, hah! Maybe if your hair was longer we could give that a try ;)

Every day is beautiful. I think this is my favorite of all your weeks ever!

  • Lynne replied 11 years ago

Wow, Aida, I haven't logged on for a while, and you are really changing up your style! Two thumbs up....the green cardi over the spotted dress is just my cup of tea :).

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Not one outfit lacks an outstanding feature. I really like the purple shirt on you. The outfit in #5 is fabulous and shows softer colors work as well as brights on you (and brights work wonderfully so that is pretty impressive). Another great week!

  • Abie replied 11 years ago

I love all of these. I think my favorite is #2 just because I'm usually not a fan of updos but I love this one on you and it looks awesome with the pencil skirt and black top. Awesome use of color in an otherwise gloomy week. I don't know what I'd do with that much rain. I'm so used to it being dry here, I get all wiggy with one rainy day.

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

All of these outfits are lovely on you, and I can't choose a favorite! I really do love the color and harmony of #2, though. I keep going back to that one to study it. And that bag! LOVE!

I always enjoy your fab weeks! Loving #2 and #5 especially here, and the bag with #4 is just great but I don't feel qualified to comment on the sizing question. Overall really fun!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for the great comments and feedback ladies, I really appreciate it! So glad to hear the updo love, I don't wear it very often but maybe I should start to :D

Lynne, thank you for stopping by to comment, I miss you! Yes I've definitely softened up quite a bit :)

Shevia, I spent a good while determining which soft and which bright colors work for me. I just can't pick between them, so I am glad that I don't have to! As long as they're not super pastel nor muddy then I'm off to a good start. Also, I think faded denim works for everyone!

Abie, I would definitely prefer the rain to be less spread out, especially in spring. We have the WORST weather in spring; people are still wearing their tall boots -_-

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Opening this was such a treat! I love all the color and glorious styling fun going on. Your #2 look (and our hot weather) make me miss having hair long enough to put up.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Absolutely loving #4 and #5! They are 11 out of 10 :).

    KILLER, baby.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Love 3 and 4! The idea of wearing a slouchy cardigan as a blouse is fantastic!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

I love you in your blues (#3-4) and I'm eyeing that gorgeous cardigan with envy --- nifty idea to get yourself a blouse in that great print at no extra cost! The way you ground your colours with tan shoes in #3 is inspirational. But my favourite is the soft fresh flowy quality of #1 despite the sharply angular print and the sharp silhouette (boxy top, skinny pants, layers) and the breathtakingly lovely soft neutrals of #5, with the pop of emerald.

I always love your hair of course! Thanks for the mini tutorial!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

GREAT outfits! I love the red printed skirt and chevron skirt!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

#2 and#4 are standout in my book. #2 is so ladylike I love it. Those shoes are beautiful. As always well thought out and put together outfits Aida. The colors in #1 are really fresh and different and really flattering.

  • rute replied 11 years ago

always so pretty! Love the assimetrical skirt!

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Love the skirt in outfit # 2. The bag is lovely. Also, the breezy skirt in outfit # 5 looks better with the grey than last week! Also, the purple shirt is interesting. :)

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

They are all gorgeous but I just love the #2!

  • san replied 11 years ago

All of your color choices are just beautiful. I especially love #5.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Aida, you look beautiful as always. I sometimes wear my cardis as blouse too. #1 is my favourite. I really like seeing different ways you style these green pants. Also, please do the tutorial on hairdo. It is so fun.

  • Heather replied 11 years ago

Aida, look at you in all of this lovely color!!! WOW! I love it!

I own the silk blouse version of your JCrew cardi. It is awesome, huh? I love my blouse with tomato red shorts!!

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

I love 2. The skirt is lovely fun and bright. The black top is classic chic. It speaks to me!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you all for the fabulous comments and feedback ladies!

Angie, woo thanks! The 70s influence is still going strong for me :D:D

Diana, it seems to be the only way I'm happy wearing my cardigans (after I'd all but stopped wearing them since last year). It started with a leopard print cardigan that I just always wore buttoned up like a slouchy sweater during winter, and then after seeing Angie's fabulous outfit doing the same it occurred to me that I could do this with ALL of my cardigans (duh). Otherwise I'd rather just wear a blazer!

Manidipa, I love your description of the juxtaposition of sharp/soft in #1, that is just what I was going for :D

Heather, yay for print twins! I totally want a silk blouse with this print in the orange (almost bought the orange tunic, but it fit a little wonky). LOVE the idea of pairing with tomato red shorts!!

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 11 years ago

I really like the rose pencil skirt and the blue dress with the aqua cardigan, great colors.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks Laura!
