WIW 06.04-08

Well this week was incredibly grizzly, gray, and WET. One of those weeks where color alone just isn't enough, so I made sure to wear lots of prints as well! If I had worn my red floral pencil skirt today as I'd originally planned, I'd have managed a bit of print every single day, but clearly I wasn't in the mood to wear something pencily today ;) And after noticing that I've been wearing blue and green almost exclusively, I wanted to get some of my other colors back into rotation. Unfortunately two of my most favorites, orange and red, are missing in my wardrobe right now.

  1. Monday, worn to work. Wanted to try a different layering with this fluttery cropped top, but I'm not sure I like how it looks with this length; I think a longer length so there's more length contrast would work better.
  2. Tuesday, worn to run errands then work. With all the rain this week I knew the only way to change silhouette would be skirts/dresses, so this day I opted for a dress (*waves to dress twins Shannon and Sona!*) with nude microfishnets. Black accents to mirror the weather, light outerwear to keep from being TOO gloomy. I really like how the obi belt looks with the dress!
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. Even though I keep reaching for phantom other colored button-up silk shirts, somehow this is still my only one. I've been wearing it untucked over skinnies quite a bit, so today I wore it tucked in. I know Angie and many of you like to see the full belt loop filled, but I rather like how colorful super skinny belts look in outfits like this :)
  4. Thursday, worn to work and out for dinner. It was especially grim and stormy this day, so I just couldn't bear to wear a single dark thing. I bought this high-low skirt in both the yellow and turquoise, and have been waiting for some warm weather to wear them but hey today I needed to make my own sun! Hubby really likes the skirt (!!), but felt the sweater with the summery skirt was too seasonally confused. The sweater is spring-weight, though. What do you gals think?
  5. Friday, worn to work and then whatever's in store for date night. No rain today! As I said above, I was originally planning to wear my red floral pencil skirt but at the last minute wasn't in the mood. I enjoyed wearing this sweater with my gray wide leg trousers last week, so I paired with my wide jeans this go around (which are the single most difficult item to photograph in my entire wardrobe). To keep the turquoise looking as springy as possible, I added healthy doses of white and red.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

I love your bold patterns in 1&2. I covet your skirt in number 4. I've got to find some chevron fabric and make something similar. #5 looks very pulled together and ready for anything. I hope date night is great!

I love your outfits =) My favorites this week are 2 and 5!! Your legs look a mile long in those Jeans in #5. I also love how you rock the high ponytail!!

I am loving 3,4,and 5 best. Maybe I'll even be converted from the fill the beltloops camp, the skinny looks great there. I think the springy weight sweater is fun with the chevron skirt, which is great btw! In 5 I especially like the white jacket playing with the two shades of blue. Great week!

I'm loving the layering in the first outfit and the aqua top looks so good with the wideleg jeans. I'm liking all the blues and greens you are wearing.

Heyyy, there's the fabulous dress again! I love the pattern mixing in #1, and that turquoise really pops in the last ouftit.

The rain was SO crazy this week! I was having lunch during a huge downpour the other day and had to pull over on my way back because it was raining too hard to see. Huge pinecones were hitting my car! It was kind of crazy.

    Thank you ladies :D

Abie, thanks! I have always fought the "conventional wisdom" that wide leg pants are only for the very tall. Most of the time my legs look _longer_ in them than in slim pants! Just have to find the RIGHT pants (which I wrote about a while back on my blog).

Sarah A, yesss come over the dark side 0:) It doesn't seem to work as well unless they're brightly colored or sparkly.

Kari, that's awful! I was very lucky to drive in two breaks in the rain yesterday, but man some of those downpours were downright wintery!

So many great oufits! You look fabulous in the green skinny jeans, the blue print dress, and you look fabulous X 10 in the wide leg jeans!

We had a lot of rain last week as well and pretty cool weather for this time of the year but it is back to the heat again (they promise 30C on Sunday)
My favorite outfit of the week is the pattern-less one - I adore you in wide leg trousers and jeans, Aida and white and red with turquoise feel so summery even if it rains!
I like the skirt and don't mind the sweater with it but it feels that sweater interferes a bit with the pleat's on the waist (or whatever creates that volume). I think a shorter and wider high-low sweater may play better with this skirt.

Gosh, if I wore the ON dress with a denim jacket on top of it in our weather, I'd melt! It looks so fab on you (and Sona too)!

Love the citron and grey combination in outfit #3 and I think you're right - the neon skinny belt really works here.

But if I had to pick a favourite outfit here it would be the skirt and sweater in #4. First of all, the skirt is beautiful - the colours, the shape, the softness, the length. And it really gets to shine as the star of this outfit with the pairing of the simple but elegant and soft sweater. I don't think the outfit looks seasonally confused at all. I think it looks effortlessly chic.

I like them all! If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be # 5. I also think the skinny belt in #3 works great!

I always love your unexpected pops of color, Aida. They are one of your signatures! You brightened up dreary Seattle with these outfits for sure.

Great week, yet again, Aida! Maybe it's the gloomy weather we're having --- lots and lots of dust storms blowing in from the neighbouring desert state --- but I'm really enjoying the solids and subtler patterns most. (Though of course the dress is always fab, and you rock coloured skinnies and blousy top like no one's business!)

Love the pallor of the chevron skirt outfit, and that does look very beachy to me! No seasonal confusion in evidence, even in a country where 'sweater' equals 'winter' quite invariably. And adore that chartreuse shirt on you, always. The last outfit is inspired! You wear those saturated brights so very well in every shade!

Here is another vote for the skirt and sweater outfit. The high low skirt looks very stylish and your wide leg pants are TDF. Once again, I think you pair colours so well. That is a real talent.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

My favorite is #5 as that appeals to my own style sensibilities:). But all in all a great week. Aida you often challenge me to think outside the box and explore how something I would generally think won't work, can in fact work extremely well.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

3 is actually my favorite. Love the soft oceany colors and the tiny pop of belt.

  • replied 11 years ago

Stunning week despite the weather! The pants in #1 are just amazing on you, love. And the color combo of belt and blouse in #3 is so interesting. You are expanding my mind!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I love me some 3, 4, 5! The colors in 1 are fab, too. I also reach for phantom silk shirts... I think it's a symptom of addiction. ;)

I personally don't have a problem with the weights of the items in 4 - maybe it's different in person? Or maybe the cable knit actually makes it seem heavier than it is?

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

Love! #1 and #4 are my favorites. Is that the Bobeau skirt? Looks awesome on you!

  • replied 11 years ago

Super fun week. I love #5 but I'm a sucker for flares. I'm loving that SM tote more and more, I must check it out.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

You look fab! I love all of the blues and greens you are wearing. I agree that the high-low skirt with the cream sweater doesn't look seasonally confused (agreeing with Rae :)--it looks perfect for the weather you're describing.

Guys please checkout my blog! :) The first post is on "coloured pants"!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

#3 is my favorite, next is #1.

  • replied 11 years ago

Wow, those are some serious, floor sweeping wide legged jeans. They ARE very elongating. How high of a heel were you wearing with them? LOVE! I love all your blues and greens, the green skinnies, the fab green tote and the blue top with the wide legged jeans. Delish!

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

I am loving the peacock hues on you: blues, yellows, greens, purples. They really work well with your dark ahir and bautiful Armenian features.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! In every single outfit. One and two are my favs though :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Wow ladies, thank you all for the wonderful comments and feedback (esp. on the seasonality of #4)! Sorry to get back to this so late, work has been hectic. Wearing less black and going instead for lively color and print for both last week and this week has been immensely helpful in staving off grumbles about the crummy weather :}

Sveta, yes good eye. The skirt is gathered along the waist band and is VERY flowy (the wind is fluffing it up all over the place in those photos!). And I am dying to replace this cream sweater with a properly cropped one!

Manidipa, I tend to go for more solids when the weather is cacophonous as well. At least in the fall/winter, even though I'd say spring is my most weather-ridiculous season; gloomy weather requires cheerful clothing! Thanks for the comment on super saturated brights, they're my favorites! I have gotten good at picking out the shades that work for me :)

Deborah, thank you! But I must ask, what was the thing that's outside the box in these outfits? I racked my brain looking through the photos trying to see what was unconventional and could only come up with color combos (#3 being top contender)! I'm always interested in hearing these types of things, because of course what I do is "normal" to me :)

Rae, I think you nailed it with the cable knit, I hadn't even thought about that! Hubby is very in-tune with fabrication (much more than me). When I replace this sweater I'll look for one that's not cable!

Marianna, yep it's the Bobeau skirt! I bought it in both the yellow and the turquoise because I couldn't decide which to keep. And then they dropped the price to $20 so I kept them both :D

Claire, yes these are Serious Wide Legged Jeans ^^ I usually wear 4" heels with them for Super Duper Leg Lengthening Action (action.. action....), but they have little tabs which allows me to adjust the waist band so on this day I tightened those up so the pants sat up higher, and "only" wore 2.5" high heels.

Briefly: teal jeans, blue dress with denim jacket, green silk blouse, hi-low skirt, turquoise top with white jacket and necklace - all gorgeous, just like you in every shot. Great week!

  • Aziraphale replied 11 years ago

No critique, except that you most definitely do not look like an amateur! All of them are great!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Cjh and Elisabeth! :D
