WIW 06.04-06 [casual hot weather]

This past weekend we had a mini heat wave, far hotter than is normal for this time of year (or even in the dead of summer, some years) for the Pacific Northwest -- temps from the mid 80s through low 90s. The area I live is a bit milder so we maxed out at 85F, but I did see up to 93F in other areas I ventured to. Should cool down to more normal temperatures tomorrow. Casual, simple, and heat-beating was in order!

#2 Saturday 06.04. Breakfast at a favorite small coffee shop near the water, then spent most of the day in the garden leisurely planting flowers and cleaning out our waterfall-pond water feature. Outside was sans cardigan and I did swap to simple thong sandals for the wet work. Jersey roomy tank with baggy denim shorts, finished with a little shine (sandals, earrings) and peachy nude lippie. Cardi was a great leg-protector from hot leather car seats!

#3 Sunday 06.05. Hottest day, mostly spent lounging on the back patio sipping iced tea in the shade and enjoying the new flowers. Did a quick outlet run with my husband for a summer shirt and jeans for him; I looked for white denim shorts but didn't find anything good. Short linen dress with mint (earrings, sandals) and blue (clutch) accents.

#4 Monday 06.06. Ruffle sleeve blouse and slouchy pleated tencel shorts for work today. I know the mixed saturations won't be everyone's cuppa but I am enjoying it; top is a very saturated red-rust, shorts are a very muted orange-rust. Finished with loads of shine (bronze sandals with gems, looooong metallic beaded earrings, rose mirror sunnies) and a little contrasting blue/turquoise (clutch). Finished with a swipe of rusty-mauve lipstick.

#5. Detail photos.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend, and that my fellow Cascadians were able to keep comfortable! As always comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Wow!  Super fab!  #4 is my favorite, and you provide lots of summer inspiration!

  • ma replied 8 years ago

#4 is great! You make hot weather dressing look easy. I always relapse into super casual hinging on beach wear shorts and tees, but you've kept it polished and pretty.

Wow- all great , as usual , but I'm really drawn to the shorts and top. Now there's a colour pairing I can get into . If time and budget allows this summer , I'd be adding in some shorts and a top in this vein . Colour - and styling . I'm also warming up to the idea of a statement earring - on an everyday basis . Funny how the suggestion needs to come from a particular person before you can accept it . I got mine today from This is Not My Age 's blog :)

I really like the last shorts and top look. That's such an interesting colour pairing and not one that is commonly seen. You have a real knack for this, Aida.

That linen dress looks so pristine and feminine. Lovely!

I love those slouchy shorts. That's exactly how I like mine to fit. Cute dress although for some reason the color is really strange on my phone - it's almost glowing. I like the long top with the shorts in the first outfit too. That's a silhouette I usually avoid but maybe I should experiment a little.

    Refreshing looks for hot weather!

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Are you getting prettier?! :D Love Sunday's outfit.....and #3 is fantabulous too. Your summer style is to die for!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

These are great warm-weather outfits, Aida. I find it so hard to be stylish in the heat while trying not to sweat. You look cool and cute. I think your summer style is looking quite boho, too--a fun, light touch. I like your use of bold earrings in these outfits, especially the long beaded ones, which not only echo but literally point to the tassels below them. It's almost like a visual pun going on there, and makes me smile. I like the mixed rusty reds there, too.

Agree 4 is a standout. You are always fab in white too. Looking cool in every way!

To coin one of Angie's phrases..."I could eat you up"! You look so darned fab! I lurve the unusual colour mix in the last outfit...so my cuppa. I also adore the patchwork effect print top in the blues...I'm checking out prints as I have a dearth of them at the moment.... And statement long earrings...wow!

I think it was you that told me to start collecting pictures of "hot weather ensembles" to learn how to dress for my climate.  YOU are the best example out there.   Every single outfit looks amazing.

Piling on with #4 love. Also adding you have great style and look good in the others too.

  • skylurker replied 8 years ago

Wow, I love #4, the juxtaposition of pretty ruffled blouse with shorts, and this red/pink palette on you, and the hair up...so cute!

The dress outfit is also wonderful, a little less cheek, a bit more pretty.

I think I'm less attracted to #2, because the top and short and cardi are all the same length and I find these proportions less pleasing.

  • El Cee replied 8 years ago

These are all such fabulous outfits. You have great summer style. I really love #4. The ruffled sleeve blouse is so lovely and breezy. And the shoulder duster earrings are a perfect addition to the ensemble.

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

Even your weekend looks are glamorous, like you're a celebrity on a Greek island :-)

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

More love for #4 from me. The mixed saturations look wonderful together (fab shorts--where are they from?), and the earrings are the perfect finishing touch.

Beautiful dress in #3, tool With the touches of refreshing mint and blue, it's a lovely, light outfit for a scorching day.

Aida - You make summer casual look uber cool. I especially love the cardi with the denim shorts. I may have to copy-cat!

  • Ledonna N. replied 8 years ago

I don't have a favorite er'thang is beautiful.  Wow  now I need to go sit in the corner and process the summer ready fits that you have created.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

All three are fabulous. The third is just gorgeous, but also stands out so nicely on the screen. I am quite sure you were just as stunning in the other two as well!

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

You certainly make hot weather dressing look easy and fab! I am loving your longer hair too.

  • Tanya replied 8 years ago

All stunning outfits, Aida.  I especially like the #4, which seems to be a general favorite, the colors are delicious on you and love the punch of the blue bag..

  • Elle replied 8 years ago

LOVE #4.  What a great combination of colors.

  • Momo replied 8 years ago

All So pretty but 4 is amazing! Love the colors and the long earrings.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

    I love the
mixed saturations - definitely my favorite, but they are all great outfits.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! Fun to hear lots of love for the color combo in #4 ^^

Marble, I feel you on that! My solution (not one that'll work for everyone): don't stock many tees in my closet. I have only a handful, mostly reserved for more heavy-duty casual activities. Instead I look for lightweight wovens in breathable fibers (cotton, linen, tencel, rayon, viscose). Just as easy to pull on one of those blouses as a tee, and summer tops seem to last about as long as tees anyway. Same goes for bottoms!

Lisa, woo to the daily statement earring! My favorite (obviously). What did you order?

Sara, hah about the glowing dress -- in that case probably all of me also glows with it, I'm super pale! The dress IS a bright optic white; I normally try and pull the blues out so it appears more color correct but didn't have time. That's probably what's doing it.

Sharan, yes I definitely skew even more boho for summer!

Skylurker, good point about the proportions in #1. All even, for sure. Not something I usually go for but I do like it in a breezy summer look. In person it's very swishy which I think detracts a bit from the sameness of the hemlines.

Aquamarine, aw thank you! I'm all about adding glamor :)

Windchime, the shorts were a find at the Rack several years ago. I think by Willow And Clay. Have been looking for something similar ever since.

Jaime, teehee I think perhaps it was unfair to include that colorful third outfit with the first two neutral ones, eh?

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

You look gorgeous as always, Aida. And just PERFECT for our hot weather. I like #4 best. (You knew I would). LOVE the colours, flounces and the rose gold with the orange. And your hair is adorable too. Killer all round.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Angie! Yes I had a hunch you'd like #4 best ^^ I'm still a little surprised that I'm into flounce at the moment... not questioning it and just going! Hope you enjoyed the waaaarm weather :D

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Loving our heat wave and go Team Flounce!

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

    You have the best outfits!!!

  • viva replied 8 years ago

You are amazing with your outfits, poses, and photos! I love your WIWs, Aida. Add me to the list of those with a soft spot for 4. Those colors are amazing.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you Bonnie and Viva! And Angie, go Team Flounce indeed ^^

Vivian, I always figure my poses are a little boring because I stick with the same handful; not enough time in the morning these days to try anything else!

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

All are perfect on gorgeous you...but the RED just sings !!
