WIW 06.07-10 [graphic and bright]

Feeling graphic and bright this week ^^

Definitely feeling like my style shift is coming together. New pieces that fit help but so does reminding myself of two things:

  1. Just because things CAN be paired together doesn't mean they HAVE to be.
  2. I can, and more importantly should, boss my clothes around to make them work better for me!

Monday 06.06. Previously posted here. To recap: bright saturated red-rust with muted orangey-rust.

#2 Tuesday 06.07. A repeat outfit (top, skirt, shoes) with different support cast (jacket, jewelry, clutch). Liked the color clash with the clutch, and finished with cherry-pink gloss.

#3 Wednesday 06.08. Sportier red/white/black outfit. Initially planned for white pumps but red sneaks felt more fun. Liney clutch for a little hectic print/color mix and same cherry gloss as day before. New giant silver hoops! Now my favorite gold pair can get a break which is good because they're starting to look worn *sniffle*

#4 Thursday 06.09. BRIGHT! Not for everyone perhaps but for me ridiculously high happiness -- bright happy colors (yes, plural!), lots of white, pretty, and most importantly everything fits right. Finished with more white (earrings, cuff, new pumps), matching candy pink lipstick, and matte silver clutch. Also liked the outfit sans jacket for a warmer day. Favorite outfit of the year. Have a hunch this outfit is going to overshadow the others ;)

#5 Friday 06.10. Double florals and a whole pile of bright white (would be happy to throw in a floral clutch if I had one!). Still in a color clash mood: the sheer blouse (made by our wonderful Firecracker! colors are correct in detail photo) is a warm print while the pumps are cool. Quite enjoyed the look of the blouse tied up a little prim with the fitted skinnies+pumps; ties left long to skew boho. Blush rock crystal earrings for a touch of sparkle, fringed gray clutch to add a little more boho, and plum gloss to keep things from getting too sweet feeling.

#6. Detail photos.

As always comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

For sheer drama, #4 is definitely the winner, but I loved the #5 top even before I knew that Firecracker made it.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

Hot pink and red! Wow wow wow! Not everyone can pull that combo off. It looks great on you.

  • Peri replied 7 years ago

Love 2 and 3 the best! And I just bought that pink layered tank!! I don't have any orange pants to wear it with though. :)

  • carter replied 7 years ago

A whole week of pretty! I LOVE it! Outfits 3 and 4 are my faves, but all are lovely.

  • Cococat replied 7 years ago

I love how you have paired the hot pink with rust. Totally unexpected and looks amazing.

  • Diana replied 7 years ago

OMG the pink and orange! I love that outfit soooo much I can't see the other ones! You don't know how tempted I am to buy that pink top just so I can wear it with my orange pants.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

I am WOWED. All these outfits make me VERY HAPPY, Aida.

Killer all round, accept for #4 which is Killer to the Power of Killer. My favourite outfit of the year of yours too, probably. Just sooooo yummy, I can't stand it. Boss your clothes around more often!

How many of the same style of shoe do we have these days? *smiling*

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

Wow, Aida, I do not even know where to begin here.  Every outfit is absolutely gorgeous, and you look wonderful in brights.  #4 though is absolutely stellar.  The color combo is out of this world. I discovered a very similar one when I was playing with my tomato cropped pants and brights and am  a big fan.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

I am so in love with #4 I need to get my fuchsia crash helmet. WOW!!

These are all great. I am running to watch a movie with DH but will be back to comment later on. Beautiful outfits and love some of these individual pieces, also.

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Thank you ladies! #4 is just as bright in person as the photos show, too :D

Peri, how fun! It's a beautiful shade of pink isn't it? Do you have any red or cobalt bottoms? Would also look fab with those if you're in a Big Color mood.

Diana, hah the pink top would definitely be lovely with your orange pants. Just sayin'!

Angie, YES I know I should be more bossy and I'm getting better! It really does make a big difference, doesn't it. Need to keep that firmly in mind. Was a little tough figuring out just how to be successfully bossy at first but I've got some good ideas now. Having some updated colorful pieces to go with all the updated neutral essentials helps a lot too ;) We share soooo many shoes!! And for the half that isn't exactly the same shoe, certainly similar styles. Kindred pretty shoe spirits!

Tanya, I remember that outfit. It's a very striking color combo! Makes my heart flutter ^^

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

(OH yes Angie, I would also loooove to get those little floral pumps if the budget allowed. Alas I have other more pressing needs and I'm trying to be extra disciplined, plus of course NAS is coming up. Still keeping my eye on them though.)

  • replied 7 years ago

I tried to pick a favorite, but I cannot. I love them all. You have a fun eye for clothing and you look amazing.

  • Aquamarine replied 7 years ago

I can see why 4 gets Angie's highest rating. It's fabulous! But i love them all.

  • replied 7 years ago

I want to put the floral top with the red pants :)
Anyway, I think my favorite is the houndstooth with the red jacket followed by the pink and red solids.
I love the bright colours. They make me happy too!

  • replied 7 years ago

Oh and it goes without saying that you look fab.
I noticed that you've got a bunch of my favorite Angie shoe picks! Lucky duck!

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

These are all so fantastic! Your fave is mine too - such a fabulous color combination. I see your style becoming a bit more polished and clean with these outfits. and they are so unique to you and your innate sense of style.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Wow! You're definitely getting great results from bossing your clothes around! My fav here is Wednesday...with Friday being a very close second. I LOVE your curly ponytail....so pretty

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

I think Una's onto something -- polished and clean. But I still feel the fun 80s influence (esp in #3 -- and WOW, those vegan leggings look amazing on you!). Love the shiny silver earrings, too.

So I am curious about your discoveries. I would have thought you were already a pro at bossing your clothes around. Did they start to stage an uprising or something and get out of hand? What was making you feel constrained by them?

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Thanks for all the lovely comments!

Smittie, that Angie does know her stuff. The shoe picks are always super comfy, too ^^

Una, interesting that it's getting more polished! Not sure that's the intent but perhaps a side effect of wearing more clothes that fit me instead of being hectically oversized. Shooting for prettier, though, and I do like clean.

Suz, YES they definitely had an uprising. Primarily due to me becoming a size too small for them. So.. a little the opposite of feeling constrained: feeling drowned! Plus a desire to shift to more tailoring and pretty. Not a good combo ;) The main setback I have is significantly reduced budget and time with which to update so it's feeling slooooow even though I am definitely making progress (plus I still really love all my old too-big pieces and am both a terrible purger AND a terrible alterer, another bad combo).

Started last spring with basics and the most essential bottoms (big bite of budget), then focus on essential footwear updates (another big bite of budget), and have finally made it to essential tops though there are still holes up and down the wardrobe.

What I really need to do is another massive closet cleanout (did one in Dec.) to remove even more of the too-big pieces that I haven't been able to boss around. I've been meaning to write a little about how I'm dealing with it, both the actual wardrobe rebuilding approach and how I'm trying to make existing things work, but haven't had time to sit and hash it all out. It's been interesting. And more challenging than I'd expected.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Every outfit is gorgeous and unique but still very much "Aida ". I especially like 3 and 4 on you.

  • amiable replied 7 years ago

These are all completely fabulous and inspiring.

  • skylurker replied 7 years ago

*phew* thank God, you didn't ask to pick a favourite, I'd be unable to choose.
I like both black&white with bright touches, and brights and white outfits.
Your style shift looks very much like Angie's shift towards pretty, except she looks more ladylike and you look more glam rock.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

I am feelin the brights!! And the double floral...out of this world!

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Thank you Joy, Amy, Skylurker, and Rachy!

Skylurker, I could hug you for glam rock! (My fantasy persona is totally 80s rock star). In my style notes right under my moniker Urban Glam it actually says: Pretty Punk, Soft (Glam) Rock :) That's my kind of pretty, glad to hear I'm hitting it -- don't feel like the rock side is very obvious most of the time.

  • Peri replied 7 years ago

Aida, have you washed the tank yet? Because of my allergy I have to wash things before I wear them...supposed to several times, like they risk getting over-washed before I even get to put them on. I don't do the several times, just a good wash with a double rinse. If you've washed it, how did it do? Any problems with shrinking?

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Peri, I haven't washed mine yet. I'm hoping since it's cotton with poly trim that a light hand wash in cool water and hang dry should be fine? Since it's a slub knit it might need a little blocking to avoid shrinkage.

  • Staysfit replied 7 years ago

You have mastered bold and bright! 4&5 are my favorites here.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 7 years ago

A fantastic set of looks and you are rocking them all !

  • Eliza replied 7 years ago

Wow! I thought you were posting a magazine spread. So thematic and polished, and hair fun, too. You look fab in the brights. And what is it with the power of floral shoes?

  • replied 7 years ago

So, so fab! Just seeing the lovely bright colours bounce out from my laptop screen makes me feel happy. What delicious colour combinations! Like Skylurker, I cant pick a favourite and I wont, so there :)

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thanks for that explanation, Aida. Yes, a change in size will definitely create some clattering hangers...and I would love to hear your thoughts about it all when you have time. I suspect I am about to go through a process of renewal myself with the new hair, so need to get prepared for it. Luckily, everything fits, but in some ways that makes it harder to get rid of if it is no longer quite right.

  • Karie replied 7 years ago

WOW! If anyone can make me like crop flares, it's you and the outfit in #4! Super fab, and I love all the color.

The florals in #5 are gorgeous, and the red sneaks definitely make the third outfit super fun!

  • Muffin replied 7 years ago

Love the bright, happy colors. You look amazing in them!

  • Momo replied 7 years ago

Very pretty and happy. 4 is amazing!

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

    I love all of them!

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

I am speechless! You are stunning in these. I see why you love the third, it is sort of the ideal outfit brought to earth huh? But the first is a great example of how perfect fit elevates (if I may use the term) an outfit from good to fantastic. I love how the pink sneakers give a signature touch to the second. And you look like a work of art in Sharan's floral top and the shoes. But the third, yes, that is sort of uber Aida. You are a true inspiration! (Apparently I wasn't speechless after all.)

  • CocoLion replied 7 years ago

    Wow, #4!!!!!!!

  • Style Fan replied 7 years ago

Another love for #4.  Those bright colours are so perfect with your colouring and wild hair.  I love it.  All the outfits are FAB.

  • Helena replied 7 years ago

Your outfit are always a joy. So beautiful!

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

I tend to be a fan of neutrals but these looks are so bright and fun you are converting me! I love the black and white looks with a pop of bright color but the bright combos are great too. I can't pick a favorite!

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

All I can see is color. In every fit you seem at home in.

  • replied 7 years ago

I can really see a shift in or perhaps an edit of your look- and every single one of these outfits represents that.  There's a cohesion to your look but the individuality and sense of fun is still definitely there.  I love every single outfit here - and am in envy of your photo shoots :)  Having an in-house photographer sure helps document things and show them off to their best advantage , I would imagine . Can't go back to look at the photos while typing or I'll lose my post (can that not be changed?) as I'm curious about the red pants (I'll look after I'm finished) .....they are absolutely perfect on you .  Just love them.

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

OOOH so happy about the colors, the fits, and the fabulous silhouettes.  #4 is my favorite, but I love them all.

How did you find the fit on the Two by VC top?

You have a great eye for capturing bits of retro in a thoroughly modern way.

  • Caro in Oz replied 7 years ago

#4 blows me away ,you look wonderful :) Nodding head about fit being so important.

  • Sal replied 7 years ago

I can also see the style shift in this series of pics compared to previous ones.  Definitely crisper and more tailored, but with the pretty glam rock edge that Skylurker mentioned.

I like them all with special love for Tuesday and Thursday in this series.

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

Wow nr 3 is so happy and  on trend, vote killer! Then, my fave are nr 2 and 4, but really you are always a glamorous inspiration!

  • Quietgirl replied 7 years ago

Love Thursday's pink and orange. Great collection!

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

WOW thank you ladies! Such lovely comments :D

Suz, I hope you'll continue posting about your shift. And I totally hear you on it being tougher to pass on well-fitting items!

Jaime, hah to "uber Aida" ^^ That should be my daily goal, right??

Lisa, the orange kick crops were from Anthro last fall so unfortunately aren't available any more. I like the longer length on these compared to my white kick crop jeans.! As for photos, I actually take my own with a proper camera and self-timer -- The rock wall ones are for sunny days and taken with a tripod and one of my husband's hats as a lens shield (#1, 2) and the barky ones are for cloudy days taken with the camera set on a hot tub cover (#3). Been doing it a long time so I have loads of practice ;)

Beth Ann, I think the VC top probably runs fairly TTS.
