WIW 05.21-27 (including birthday outfit and new birthday handbag!)

Hi ladies, sorry to be MIA but work is hectic this week! Here's what I wore last week and during the holiday weekend. Hubby has been sick the whole week and into this week, but especially last Mon/Tues so I was a bit distracted and really feeling the slouchy vibe.

  1. Monday, worn to work and grocery for rations. I am enjoying wearing orange and emerald together this season! I was inspired to add in the gray after seeing how wonderful it looks with emerald on Kari recently.
  2. Tuesday, worn to work. Wanted a waist surrendering look this day. I usually wear this tunic with skinnies, but was in the mood to try it with my baggy flares. Too cold to wear on its own, so I added the teal blazer for a shot of color. Please pardon my "fashionable" long hair, high heels, and arm party ;)
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. I've been neglecting my spring shorts for some reason, so I decided to pull 'em out for a slouchy look this day. Kept it simple with sheer tights instead of pattern mixing with textured tights (but I'll try that soon!).
  4. Thursday (birthday!), worn to a baseball game and out to dessert afterwards. This is the pretty emerald handbag my husband bought me for my birthday! Wanted an outfit with the Ms colors, flat shoes because I knew we'd be walking quite a bit, and since I'm trying to wear my jeans less I chose my black trousers instead of black skinny jeans. New sweater, same as the one in #3 but sized down; I think it's better suited for skirts than pants, so I layered a navy tank underneath for some extra length (and a gradient!).
  5. Friday, worn for date night dinner then to a pub with my sis, hubby, and a friend visiting from LA. I enjoyed wearing the slim-tunic-over-flares silhouette from #2, so I wore again with a sweater dress (and this time around accessorized gold/warm instead of silver/cool). Added a new black obi belt, first time wearing one and found it surprisingly comfy.
  6. Saturday (left) and Sunday/Monday (right), super casual outfits!. Hubby and I spent all of Saturday in the yard playing games and soaking up the sun; I was wearing a gray cami and denim cut off shorts for most of the day but popped on a jacket, jeans, and heels for a quick run to the grocery. Sunday and Monday I wore the same thing out for various meals, and spent the rest of the time at home lounging around and doing a whole lotta nuthin' (while poor hubby had to work).

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Woot! Aida's got a big girl bag! I love that tote! The color, the style, the chain handles, mmm-mmm! Oh, your outfits are nice too! I'm digging the fab little shrunken blazer over your tunic and flares in #2, the way your cool spy-trench covers your shorts in #3, and the bag! Did I tell you how much I like it? I've had a secret desire to see you sport a larger hand bag, is that weird?

    Love #3, that's my favorite.

Great birthday present! I like them all, even #1 with the cardigan, and I have been turning away from cardigans lately on me and others. Great looks and hope hubby is feeling better.

#4 and #5 are my favorites! In #4, love the green/blue pairing with the neutrals. In #5, I love the sweater dress, fab stripes, with the flares. Too funny, oh you with the long hair, high heels and arm party. So in-synch! hehe

What a fantastic b-day present - way to go Mr. Aida!!!

Again, a stellar week but wowza, outfit #4 just grabs my attention. Love everything about it - turquoise and emerald green pairing, that fab leather jacket with stud detailing and the beautiful bib necklace. Fantastic!

Hope hubby is getting all better!

    LOVE #3!!!! Favorite!!

2, 4, and 5 are my faves! I'm really enjoying the slouchy looks on you, especially the "scrunch" of the pants in 2 and 5 - didn't know one could do that with flares! The emerald bag is TDF. Are you able to use it as a laptop bag as well?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks ladies :D

Claire, not weird at all! I have been wanting to "size up" with my purses, but I keep almost nothing in them so I've been quite reluctant. You should see how empty this tote looks with all my stuff in it *giggle*

Anna and Nicole, thank you! I had a hunch you'd both like #3 :)

Shevia, I have been off cardigans for quite a while as well. But after seeing Angie wear hers all buttoned up a couple weeks ago, it inspired me to try the same with mine. Nearly all of them are v-neck so it doesn't quite work as a top, but I much prefer the buttoned-up cardi vibe to unbuttoned (where 9 out of 10 times I'd go for a blazer). Even sported it twice last week (#1, #7) ! Must be a side effect of the soft dressing.

MTB, I giggled when I read the post because those three are current hallmarks of my style! Though I only arm party in spring/summer.

Shannon, thank you! #4 is how I'm hoping to move my weekend-casual style towards, glad you like it. Thank you also for the well wishes for hubby, he's recovering slowly.

Rae, to get that type of scrunch on the flares... wear them 1" too long 0:) I love that vibe with the light wash! I was hoping the bag could work with my laptop, but the leather is just a little too soft and unstructured. If I had a super skinny, super light laptop it would work though.

Look at that bag!! Whoot! What a great colour. I can imagine it working really well with so many of your outfits. Such fun.

I really do notice the move towards "soft." Very interesting. I wonder if it's a permanent direction, or a seasonal trend for you?

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I love #2 and #4! You are so cool in your light wash jeans... every time I see you in them, it reminds me that I really need to find a pair!

And fantastic birthday bag! Hubby done good. =)

You got the Steve Madden tote! I just adore it in green. Crazy cool color.
Looking good all week - you put so much thought into your looks that it's so interesting to follow along with the details and see how your creations come about. I love your baseball game look :)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

#4 would have to be my favourite! Gorgeous color. Aida I really like the tunic over pants. It works well on you and is a little bit of a change of pace. Like it alot.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I love the new handbag and you look great as always :-)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Is that the Steve Madden tote? I got it in the cobalt! We are bag twins! I love all of your outfits, as usual. I hope you don't get bored of me being so repetitive. Your flowy outfits are nice though more casual than the first really inspirational one from the art challenge. Do you prefer casual flowy or dressy flowy so far?

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

Great bunch of outfits, Aida! and Happy belated birthday!
I really like the gray and emerald combo in outfit #1- I'm stashing that idea away for future copying.
Laughing about how on trend you are with your flowing mane and bracelets! I think the tunic over flares works better in #2 than #5 because of the slightly shorter length.

You look gorgeous in that turquoise, and I love your new bag. I hear you about wanting the proportions of a larger bag, but not carrying a lot of stuff. I'm so drawn to the look of big bags, but I don't carry much more than a small wallet and car keys, so it seems sort of silly for me. The bag looks great on you, though.

Hope you husband is feeling better.

I always love seeing your outfits. I'm feeling so crazy about the green and turquoise together in outfit 4 -- beautiful! What a fantastic bag, your hubby is definitely a keeper. And happy birthday again!

  • JennyAnne replied 11 years ago

Great week! I'm loving your color mixes and casual style.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You look amazing every day Aida, but the looks with the gorgeous new birthday bag steal the show this time round. Superbly KILLER.

Another fan of the green tote & admirer of the PPL.

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments ladies, I really appreciate all of your feedback! Thanks also for the bag love, I am definitely going to have a hard time NOT using it every day ^^ I am also quite surprised that #4 was the favorite, filing that away in the memory banks for future outfit use :)

Suz, I do tend to soften up in spring/summer, but I feel this is a true direction change for me. Soft dressing was the biggest "trend" I was interested in coming into spring (I started a bit last year actually), and I made all of my spring purchases with that in mind and have been working it in slowly. After the photo challenge I realized I was 100% into it and decided to take it as a new direction. I talked about it a bit here (photo recap) and here (catalyst outfit) and even way back in Feb. on my blog if you're interested. I'm glad to hear it's noticeable :D

Diana, I could definitely see you rocking some light wash jeans with your awesome hand-knit goodies!

Una, woot bag twins! I have to thank you for posting it, I wouldn't have even looked at it otherwise! I had the hardest time deciding between the emerald, orange, and cobalt, can't wait to see yours and I bet the cobalt is delicious looking. Good question re casual/dressy. I think I enjoy the dressier ones a little more, but I am still primarily making do with what's existing in my closet so good dressier outfits are quite a bit harder to come up with. Ultimately, I think I will continue with my dressy-casual thing since my life is very casual, but plan to incorporate more of the dressy so it skews more that direction.

Parsley, you know I'm starting to think that less stuff in a big bag isn't so bad; sure makes it easy to find things in there AND it's not heavy!

Angie, thank you! It's great to have confirmation from the bag Queen that my new one is worthy :D

Kiwichik, thanks! I'm almost as much of a stickler about PPL as Angie, any flared hems need to be sweeping the ground for me. And I must say, being short makes this fairly easy ;)

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Oh goodness, happy belated birthday, Aida!

I am so loving how you look in emerald. That's a fantastic shade and I'm very flattered that my outfit inspired you to try something this cool!

My gosh, LOVE that tote. Fab!
