Outfits from last week! After glancing over the last couple weeks of outfits working on soft dressing I've noticed two interesting things: 1) most of my "soft" pieces are in the green-to-blue color spectrum, and 2) when combined several of my softer pieces give off an artier? vibe and while I like it enough, I much prefer my usual boho edge for myself.

  1. Tuesday, worn to work. I've been meaning to get an emerald tank to layer with these jeans, but in the meantime I have been enjoying using teal. Not sure how well it shows, but I wore some bright pink lip color which is present in the feather print (I think it's a fun, subtle way to pick up on pattern colors!).
  2. Wednesday, worn to work. Dry enough for wide, floor sweeping hems! Went for a soft tonal gradient (vertically: turquoise, light blue, gray, light gray), and the look felt a little too Classic so I poofed up my bangs to add a touch of rockabilly :) Though a bright red lip would've played more into the rockabilly, I went with bright pink to keep things softer.
  3. Thursday, worn to work and out to dinner. Quite a lot cooler, so I thought I'd break out some equestrian-seamed leggings I'd actually purchased for fall. What I _really_ wanted to wear was an a-line colorful printed tunic, but in light of not having any nor feeling any of my dresses that morning, I instead opted for a slouchy skirt and a graphic black/white/cream look. Little peeks of green in both indoor and outdoor versions.
  4. Friday, worn to work then out for date night (dinner @ movie). Spent the morning sorting through online returns and didn't have time to think up something new and clever, so I went with one of my fall back formulas: loose button-up shirt, slim pants, pumps. These cute little retro peep-toes are one of the few things I bought during Nordstrom's Half Yearly Sale, and they are super comfortable (thanks for the rec, Angie!).

I love the blue/greens. I really like the mix of colors and prints in #1 but like it a bit better without the scarf. Maybe because it is finally hot here. :)

Outfit #2 is also a favorite. I love that color top on you and it works well with the soft grey pants.

Nice outfits. I think you may be able to achieve a balance between soft and boho. I think #1 is probably a good mix of the two.

Gorgeous outfits, all of them - i especially love the nude satin (?) Peeptoes!

I always enjoy your posts so much! I am really loving your gold watch in 2 and 4... And maybe others, I just really noticed it there. I think 4 is my fav, I can see why this formula is a go to, it is great on you and the new shoes are great! I like the silhouette of 2 and the fun skirt in 3 as well. Really great looks all week!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Ooh. I really love #1. I like it best without the scarf but the scarf bookends the bag so well and so creatively!

I also think the scarf would look great with your pretty new pumps!

#2 reminds me of a Sveta outfit. Which makes sense, since her Kibbe type was "soft dramatic" if I recall correctly!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Another great set of outfits. I love #3. What struck me in #4 is how your button down and pants fit you so well - that makes this work so well. Great wide pants and I love how you use your hair as an accessory to temper your look. The oceany look of #1 is gorgeous.

The blues and greens play well together! Not sure what the difference is between arty and boho - a softer look is going to lend itself to both I suppose. You don't wear a lot of funky jewelry and actually usually have very modern accessories so it keeps things like scarves and flowing hair from being boho - does that seem logical?
I like outfit 4 a lot - very nice slim pant with a little adorable heel. And the skirt in #3 layered over a legging is beyond fabulous!

Gorgeous looks, Aida. I especially love the blue-green mixing in #1. Yay for soft dressing!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Love these! Your WIW's are always such a treat! My fave is #3 but I super love the wide pants, too!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

You know, there is a fine line between artsy and boho - sometimes I can't see it, but I think because I'm familiar with your outfits, I see what you mean. Still, I love the watery colors and drapey fabrics on you. They go so well with your hair and Seattle scarves!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for the great comments, ladies! I am amused to see that #3 is getting so much love, as I felt least like me in that one but I do like the outfit. Or maybe I felt it too fall-like, since my fall style aligns more closely with that outfit's vibe.

Dianthus, my boho side coming out stronger in the summer was part of what got me considering soft dressing in the first place. They definitely fit well together.

Jilly, the peep-toes are canvas actually! Pretty and casual. I'm planning to use them as sandals :)

Shevia, yes good fit is even more important in those simple outfits! Not that more heavily layered looks are an excuse for poor fit, but you can definitely mask it more in those types of outfits.

Christieanne and Rae, very good points! I am not sure how to define it in words, but I can also generally tell boho from arty when I see it. I don't consider my style very arty, but it definitely does have a strong 70s slant to it. As C says, modern jewelry and accessories can be key to grounding soft boho looks (especially with my hair being very free flowing ;) ).

Rae, definitely! Like, #1 feels more boho and #3 more arty (or hipster or something). Now I am curious if it's the black. I wonder if I could come up with a good boho look that was black heavy? Hmmm.....

More love for #3! It's got such great cheeky attitude. I really love #1, too - that's one of my favorite ways that you've worn that blouse. You are obviously having way too much fun with those peep-toes.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

These are all lovely Aida but #2 is my favourite - I love you in these wide legged trousers and that turquoise. There's a softness to this outfit but with a lot of sophistication mixed in.

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

Love the looks in 2,3 and 4 :)

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Wow Aida, another set of fab looks! I love #1! :-)

  • replied 11 years ago

Great outfits! I enjoyed reading about your style journey. I love the peep toe pumps in #4!

  • Erica replied 11 years ago

ahhhh stop it! You look so fantastic and I want to copy all of your outfits :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

These are all fab looks, but most of all, why haven't I thought to pair the Hinge blouse with emerald pants?! Both of which I own?! That is BRILLIANT! A friend of mine is being appointed to be a judge and I'm going to wear this combination to the party at her house (because I'm inventing a new category called "Dressy Alaskan" which is dressed up for MY enviromental norm).

Those wide-legs are TDF on you!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Aida, it's always a treat to see you and read about your thoughts on style, for yourselves and others too! A great week, yet again (do you ever get tired of being brilliantly put together??) --- and my favourite is the wide-legged pants, soft scarf and bright top of #2. Those peep toes and the green bag with the monochromes is great too. And I really enjoyed the pastel neutral of the scarf with the deep oceanic colours in #1 --- very unexpected, very you. I always enjoy your unusual use of colour.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

#1 without the scarf looks AMAZING on you! The rest are wonderful too but for whatever reason the colors and styling of #1 are just perfect.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Glad you scored those fun shoes at the sale. They look amazing :)

You look absolutely terrific, Aida! Personal KILLER faves are #2 and #3.

Spoken like a true Seattleite: "Dry enough for wide, floor sweeping hems".

And look at our weather today. We need to move to the East Coast.

  • nicoleb replied 11 years ago

These are all great! Love the colors in #1 and i love the shoes details in the last outfit!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Interesting about your thoughts on #3. That one stood out to me, but they are all interesting and stylish. I love your "come hither" poses in #4 (in the upper right corner)--seems like your hubby is teasing you or capturing a moment :).

  • Reneeb replied 11 years ago

I love outfits #1 and #3 the shoes in 4 are so cute. I never thought of putting my Hinge blouse with colored jeans love it. I like the green tank too will copy this look.

  • qfbrenda replied 11 years ago

I love them all! All the green and turquoise colors are wonderful. The green bag is a personal favorite.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you all for the wonderful comments, I really appreciate the great feedback! Since #3 is such a hit, I'll keep the vibe in mind and see if I can summerize it :)

Shannon, you know I think the soft sophistication comes from the wide leg trousers themselves; many of the outfits I wear them in have the same feeling, regardless of what I'm doing on top. I think it's the to-the-floor length paired with the lightweight-but-nicely-draping fabrication.

Una and Reneeb, I've found that the peacock blouse has several interesting colors that could be paired separate from the obvious neutrals: emerald, gold, pink, lavender, and French blue are all present in the pattern. If I had pants in any of those other colors I would totally wear them together! I hope you two will post your outfits with the peacock blouse and emerald pants :D

Una, your tag of "Dressy Alaskan" sounds fun, but I have a feeling that your version of "Dressy Alaskan" is still going to be dressier than most others' version of "Dressy Alaskan" :) I think this blouse would also work with red or cobalt pants separate from the actual colors in the print, by the way. Did you end up keeping the pink trousers? That would also be a fun pairing!

Manidipa, thank you for the color pairing compliment! I have certainly been enjoying pairing this taupe scarf with, like, every other color this season.

Angie, urgh the weather is exceptionally grim today, isn't it? I had to wear a colorful dress to combat it! This wet weather is making my usual silhouette change up of wide hems quite difficult. David would probably be all for moving to the East Coast, he loves (and much prefers) proper seasons :)

Jonesy, I had learned that one should "think of your sweetheart" when first learning to pose years ago, so my "natural" camera faces do come from there hehe. Though if hubby is involved in the actual photo, I get much more toothy with my smiles ^^

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

I love all these outfits on you Aida but I have to say the first one is just amazing! That dark blue print blouse combined with those awesome green pants you is just to die for! And I LOVE that green structured bag in pics 2 and 3. Oh heck! I like it all! Even the leggings under the skirt and I don't normally go for that style too much!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Meredith! The emerald bag is my current favorite ^^

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Great outfits Aida! You look terrific. LOVE #2 (but hey, that's right up my alley, isn't it?!) and #3 is even more fab if possible.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks Christy! I can see you in #2 for sure! Though I think I would faint right onto my keyboard if I saw you in a bright bright turquoise sweater (which you could totally rock) ;)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Yeah. I much prefer East Coat weather too. Seattle does have the BEST Autumns though.

Like you, I had to wear my bright tomato red skirt with black and animal print today - to feel colourful and alive in all this insane weather grimness:(

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I'm planning to wear my red floral pencil skirt later this week, too! I wore a black heavy outfit this weekend and felt sluggish >< I can't WAIT for the weather to clear up. I think it's time I got a bright, colorful trench (maybe cobalt?).

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

No. 3 rocks my style world, Aida. One of the things I really appreciate about your outfits is the attention to detail. You make fashion interesting in a multi-dimensional way. I also think you have a great eye for color.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you very much Kyle! I need two boost buttons for your sweet comment.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

loving your blues and greens. they really suit you. softer ( but brighter peacock hued) edge definitely has an Aida-esque appeal!!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Sona! I was off peacock colors for a while but after seeing you rock them when you first started posting I was so inspired to start wearing them again! Soft and bright is right up my alley, these days :D

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

What a beautiful set of outfits Aida! #2 and #3 are stunning, I must try to copy them.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thank you Tanya! The colors in #2 seem right up your alley :}
