WIW 05.14-19 (including photo meet up outfit)

Outfits from last week! Still working on the soft dressing as well as wearing jeans less. And apparently was feeling quite neutral until the meetup ;) Feeling chatty today, but feel free to skip ahead to the photos ^^

  1. Monday, worn to work then out for tacos. We had really warm weather projected for the week, so I pulled out my summer jersey dresses! Even though I don't repeat often, I really like wearing my white blazer with this dress. New minty sandals, and first-time wearing these long dangly earrings I bought at the LA meetup way back in October.
  2. Tuesday, worn to run errands, work, then out for dinner. A slightly different vibe than what I normally go for, but I really like this outfit (so slouchy and comfy!). Purse from the recent YLF Seattle swap. And I was tickled to see Angie wear something similar (dressier, of course) just a couple days later.
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. An experimental outfit; I'm going back and forth on this one for myself, but I do like the outfit as an outfit. I'm quite fond of the vibe with the shirt buttoned up all the way but the silk scarf tied loosely. Trying a new fuchsia lip color, inspired by Anna's (this one is a little too pink and not as bright).
  4. Thursday, work, to a friend's to ferret-sit, then out for dinner. Last year I wore this shirt/jean combo with the tank tucked in for a super 70s vibe, but today I left it untucked for the short-over-long trend. I hadn't expected to play with the ferrets, and learned that breezy tops and super wide pants make for exciting ferret exploring territory ;)
  5. Friday, worn to work, then combined hubby/my birthday dinner with his folks. I very much like the look of long silk shirts with slim trousers, but only have one silk shirt which I wore with these trousers/shoes last week (and the neon necklace). So today I wore my chambray instead, and let the statement necklace shine.
  6. Saturday, worn to the YLF photo meetup, then out to ferret-sit and dinner with hubby. I wanted to wear something that would photograph well, and this is what I came up with. Bold print mix (peacock, floral, fishnets), pencil skirt debombshelling, and more flats with skirts (I'm coming around)! I liked this outfit a lot, but my husband did not at ALL with this top.
  7. Bonus: there were many lovely photos taken of me during the meetup, but this one taken by Greg was my favorite :)

All are great. I love the shear top in #7 but my absolute favorite is #4. It has a slightly hippie vibe that somehow looks right on you. I also like the mix of patter and color.

    Lots of great outfits.

What a stunning set of Outfits Aida!!! Wow, I am speechless. The colors of your sandals and nail polish in #1 are incredible together.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Love these looks 1 & 4 are my favs (in fact saving 4 for inspiration).

But please tell me what is with the ferrets?????????

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

I adore the soft colors on you, your dark hair is the perfect contrast against them. And the pattern mixing from the YLF photo meet up is really fab!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

My absolute favorites are 1 4 and 7. Wow!!

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

    A FAB week, Aida!

    1) I'm so used to seeing you in vibrant colors, so this neutral, summery look was a nice surprise. Luv the minty sandals with the coral polish!

    2) A fun, casual outfit. That neon necklace has a superhero charm about it!

    3) I likey! An outfit full of charm and personality.

    4) Great colorful boho glam look!

    5) All the accessories rock this outfit.

    6) The print mix here is so unexpected and awesome!

    7) That Greg sure knows how to take pictures! YLF!

Oh, so very nice! I love number 4 and number 6. The soft colors are great on you...but I'm such a sucker for vivid shades, I can't help but be drawn to those outfits :)

  • Midwest Girl replied 11 years ago

You are so creative with your outfits! My favorite is #1, mainly because it is something I would love to wear, but #4 gets my vote for off-the-charts style!

Also, Greg's photo of you is gorgeous!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Wow! Your outfits blow me away, Aida! I love them all. You have such a fab sense of style. I really love this softer look on you. It surprises me because I tend to think of brunettes looking better in darker colors but these soft neutrals really make your shine! I love 1 and 2--so pretty and fresh. Love the menswear inspired look of 3--very fun and unexpected. #4 is sheer perfection--great colors and silhouette. 5 is classic and 6 is pattern mixing fun! You are so creative! All of these are stunning and I love the candid shot. Gorgeous!

@Kiwichick - in NZ the ferret is illegal because they were introduced and breed with polecats and really became a problem for native animals. My hubby used to have one as a pet when I first met him in Washington state (and two snakes - yuck ) and he is like an encyclopedia of ferret knowledge but no longer thinks they are great pets.
Brave of you to ferret sit Aida! They are quick little guys for sure.

I think your evolution in soft dressing is so interesting - and I am wondering if there are things in your closet you don't want to wear anymore or are you just combining in different ways? I love outfit 6 and also 2. 4 is bold and I really like the shapes combined. I am not sure either on pattern mix in 7 but you look so happy that it's hard to eliminate from fabness - and Greg's photo of you is gorgeous!

You just keep getting better and better Aida! I like the way you play with a range of styles, from classic (#1) to ladylike (#2) to Boho (#4) to trendy fashionista (#3). #5 is somewhere between minimal and classic -- is that what modern classic means? #6 feels a little arty / academic, and I like it.

I recently read that Marc Jacobs thinks you shouldn't come up with a signature style, that it's more liberating to experiment with a range of styles. Even though I tend to gravitate towards a few specific looks (minimal or dramatic or Boho or a mix thereof), I agree with him. That is why I do not attempt to create a style rubric for myself. I like to keep experimenting and to just see what happens.

ETA: STUNNING photo of you by Greg!

What a stylish week of outfits.............You look gorgeous in number one. Your hair and toe nails are TDF in it. How did you do your hair. Also, the neon necklace is such a happy piece of jewellery.

  • replied 11 years ago

Wow, you keep outdoing yourself week after week. I love them all but #4 and #5 speak to me the most. I love the silhouette in #4 and #5 is simple yet full of interest.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

#2 is my favorite. I really like everything - the slouchy, the black and white skirt, the loafers and that necklace!

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

#4 and #7 Are so inspiring! Color, pattern, shape- all are spectacular!
Other outfits are also lovely but those hit the right spot for me.
You are so gorgeous and have the greatest sense of what works for you. Bravo!!

Yet another stellar week by the amazing Aida! These are all fantastic but I keep going back to #3. Absolute perfection in my eyes. And the picture shot by Greg is beautiful.

Like Denise has commented, your style spans all sorts of different looks. And yet they all look natural and effortless on you. Well done!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

1 and 4 are my favorites for this week! Bonus that 4 doubles as a system of ferret tunnels. ;)

I like the buttoned up look in 3, too, but I think I'd prefer a contrasting scarf/tie. I like that bright lip!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

So wonderful, Aida! I love all of the pattern mixing going on, and I really admire how you can switch your silhouette so effortlessly. #3 is a standout for me, but I also really love 2, 4, and 6. That shot of you by Greg is beautiful. Maybe your hubby can have it framed and cherish it always :).

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Aida, that photo of you that Greg took is just wonderful. How lovely to have that! I really like the silhouette of that outfit - it's similar to the one Jonesy posted yesterday, in a way (her second outfit). I love #2 and all the rest are fab, too.

  • replied 11 years ago

OMG I love what you did with your hair in #1! Aida has a pouf! Love the side-swept *bangs* too. Outfit #4 has got to be my absolute fave, though. I love you in all that soft volume. So easy, breezy and chic! Lucky you to have a photo by Greg. You looked fabulous in the meetup pics!

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Aida, beautiful set of outfits. Love #1 and #4 especially and that photo that Greg took of you is stunning! LOL at the idea of #4 being perfect for ferret entertainment. #3 is fun - what would happen with either a tie that has more contrast or a pant that has less? That's some advanced pattern mixing in #6 - I could never get away with it, but you wear it with such intent that you totally pull it off. Nice flats and sandals! ;)

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

You look wonderful, I love all of your outfits! #4 and #6 especially, the pattern mixing in #6 is awesome. Love your new minty sandals too.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

Wow, 7 is such a gorgeous photo! You are looking extra edgy and cool this week.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

#1 and #3 rock my world! Especially #3! I must find some silky cargoes and emulate asap. The architectural quality of the shoes with it is too cool. love!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

6/7 is making me fall over with delight. Where did you get that fab skirt?! You look like a model - no, better than a model! And you are really hitting the soft dressing perfectly. I do love the tie outfit, though. :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Wow, Thanks for all the wonderful comments ladies, I really appreciate all of your feedback :D Glad to hear the crazy pattern mix in #6 went well overall, and also good to hear from those who didn't feel it. I definitely need a couple breezy tops to wear with this pencil skirt!

Lisa and Kelly, because my skin is so light and hair so dark, no matter whether I wear all light or all dark outfits the contrast is going to be most dramatic at my face/hair. Built in auto high contrast! I definitely use that to my advantage :)

Christieanne, so far it's a mix; my new spring purchases are (nearly) all soft, but mostly I am just combining my existing items differently. It's a lot easier to do right now because my spring/summer clothing has a strong boho element, but it will be much more of a challenge when fall rolls around without several carefully planned purchases.

Denise, interesting! I too think keeping the flexibility and openness to experiment is important, regardless of whether we have a signature style or are more eclectic. Since I'm clearly more towards the eclectic end, this is why I have more of a (somewhat complex) style matrix rather than a rubric. Seems to work well for me!

Mona and Claire, thanks for the hair compliment! I don't wear it up like this that often, but it's a fun one :) To style it, I tease/hair spray the crown and gently comb the hair on top to smooth, then pull the sides back into a loose half-pony and secure with a clear elastic. Then I push it in and up a little to make the pouf and use two bobby pins right below the elastic to hold the volume in place. The photo below shows it a bit, couldn't find a better one that shows it straight on.

Rae and Christy, I'll don a higher contrast scarf-tie next time!

Una, the floral skirt is from Ann Taylor Outlet (they sell different stuff than AT).

Mo, I could totally see you in #3! I hope you can find some silky cargos :D
