Outfits for the week. All worn to work; #1 also worn out for tacos, #5 also worn out for date night with my husband. It's been cold and rainy all week (what is this, February??), but with the occasional sunbreaks I was able to take photos "in the sun" ;)

  1. New-to-me vintage vest. Raining so hard I had to take photos indoors and actually wear my raincoat.
  2. Sort-of-didn't-rain this day, so I wore my wide leg jeans :)
  3. One of my seasonal goals is to find more ways to wear my denim jacket.
  4. Another goal is to get some mustard accessories; I have none, except this new-to-me vintage silk scarf which I tried tying like a men's tie (half Windsor knot). These are the straight leg jeans I just got back from the tailor, and I noticed after getting dressed that the hems aren't even in height! Have to take them back now...
  5. Giving these shorts a go with a springier outfit, so I went with gray/brown instead of black. Quite happy with this outfit, though the shorts have gotten too big.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Love #1 and #2. Totally agree with you about our weather as of late. I'm not inspired!

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 13 years ago

What a great week, Aida! Not that it's unusual for you. :) I really love that green jacket! Everything is fab, per usual, but #3 and #4 are my faves. I adore that little tunic and teal (with gold accent) is SO flattering on you!

PS - where are you finding that much sun to get photos? Today, yeah, okay but the rest of the week was so gray! You must have more than just fashion magic at your disposal!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks Anna and Andrea! I feel like this rain is even LESS inspiring than our normal rain, probably because it's been so cold too. Andrea, for some reason around 11am my home has seen sunbreaks all week. But it was actually fairly comical to make use of them: I was literally waiting for the rain to stop, wait wait wait for clouds to part, set self timer, run and get photo! If it didn't turn out, most likely the sun was behind a cloud again so I had to wait wait wait, then run and get photo! Good thing my work hours are so flexible 0:)

    LOVE #2!!!

Aida, your style just blows me away! LOVE that green jacket. My favorite look is #3. You are a pro at fashion photo montages! Fabulous!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Oh snap, a full Killer week woohoo! Thanks Angie, it's been a looooong week so that makes me very happy to hear :D

Barbara, thank you! I enjoy putting the collages together :)

Everything looks great, but I especially love that green jacket and those truly fab boots in #1!

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

OMG, Aida, I love them all! You are killing me with your fab ensembles! My faves are 1 and 2 but they are all knock outs! The vest, the green jacket and those killer wide legs--you are a vision, Aida!

  • cloud9 replied 13 years ago

Oh my! Chic to the power of Chic!

  • modgrl replied 13 years ago

Love the new vest in 1 and wide legs in 2. Can these two go on a date together someday?

  • rae replied 13 years ago

Is the green jacket in #1 your raincoat??? Wait, whatever kind of coat it is, it's UH-mazing! Pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor...

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

Can I pick favorites? I love 1 and 2. I really like the shape of your green coat. Bummer about the jeans. I got so aggravated when this happened to me a few times that I learned how to hem myself.

#3 is my absolute favorite of the week! #1 comes in at a close second. Great week!

  • Lynne replied 13 years ago

Love your new vest and I love with the low contrast top and the dark brown boots - beautiful! Teal with navy and pearls is brilliant, and I love love love your shorts outfit! What a fantastic styling week!

  • tarzy replied 13 years ago

Okay - I think you might not like what I'm going to say - but I LOVE #1 more than anything I've seen you in to date! I know that outfit is not really the direction you are going in - from what I understand, you like a more edgy, punky look - but for me, #1 looks so current and hip and pretty, yet still being totally modern - it completely works! To me, you have a very strong look - dark hair contrasted with light skin, strong features - you already look like a very strong woman, and for me, when your clothes are also very strong and edgy, it can sometimes look a bit harsh. I don't love the print in #3. It seems young, somehow. But #1 strikes that perfect balance of modern, strong, clean. The colors are fabulous for you - they're clear and bright and natural (browns, greens, and that white/cream is heavenly on you!) You look so pulled together! For me, the clothes there don't compete with your looks - they let you shine through.

    I love, love, love #1.

Of course, take all of that with a grain. It's just one person's opinion, and I still have a lot to learn!

Your collection of toppers (coats, jackets, blazers) is outstanding! I bet you have more toppers than anything else in your wardrobe. So awesome.

  • Marley replied 13 years ago

Love them all, but my faves are 1 - for the same reasons that Tarzy gave, 2 - because those colors are just beautiful on you, and 5 - because I LOVE me some shorts with tights and boots and am just a little too "mature" for the look myself so I am living vicariously through you! Thanks for posting - a great week!

    Thank you ladies!

Modgrl - I can certainly set those two up on a date for the next sunny day, thanks for the idea!

Rae - Hehe yeah the green coat is my raincoat, but I only wear it a handful of times a year even though we get rain all the time; I think growing up in Seattle has given me an unnatural aversion to wearing a raincoat ;)

Scarlet - I think you're on to something there. Hoping to get a table to set up my sewing machine on soon, I should learn to do this jean hem myself as well.

Tarzy - Pff who could be upset with such a thoughtful post! I thank you for writing out your thoughts and for being honest. You touched on something that is indeed a concern of mine, looking overly harsh since, as you said, I've already got strong coloring. I don't mind looking a little harsh, it kind of comes with that punky territory, but I definitely want to find the right balance (which is part of why I wasn't sure how well I could marry the punk-thing with the Euro-style-chic-thing, they have such different vibes). #1 was actually one of my favorites this week and I'm glad it's going over so well! I think instead of trying to squeeze all the elements I love into every outfit, I'm fine incorporating only one or two at a time; after all I do enjoy having a lot of variation in my day-to-day outfits. I will have to think on the natural colors though; I'm generally drawn to bolder, brighter non-earthy shades. Bright and clear I can do though :)

Girl X - I've been slowly learning how great a topper can be! A great structured jacket can totally make an outfit. My collection could use expanding since I'm starting to wear them more; I wore most of the ones I have this week hehe

Aida, I wish I could reciprocate with thorough analysis of your outfits!

All I know is I love no.1 - mixing two whites, sort of? It's one gorgeous vest. But the coat is a real winner for me, I love the style, that color on you, everything works together like a charm. I don't think I ever said it, but I really, really like those brown boots of yours. You have so many elements here that work together in a way I can only admire the thought process behind it.

I also like the trick with the top color showing on the jacket's sleeves in no.2 and I swoon over that necklace every time I see it.

  • GGB replied 13 years ago

I love #1. What are the brown boots? They are awesome!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thank you Ornela and GGB!

Ornela - Welllll as much as I'd like to say it was all masterminded, the thought process in #1 went like this: *Brushing teeth, peering in closet* "Oooh I want to wear this vest and this tee and my light wash flares today!" *Look out the window* "Oh, but it's raining... Guess I'll wear skinnies+boots instead, that's sort of close." *Get ready to take pictures, look outside again* "Good lord it's POURING out, guess I'll actually have to wear my raincoat today." This is when it is nice to have all those analytical notes tucked away somewhere in my brain, then my instincts can do good things. Having good clothing items helps too, I suppose ;)

GGB - The boots are "Boystown" by Not Rated, picked up this winter. I think there are a few pairs floating around online still, mostly in smaller sizes.

  • GGB replied 13 years ago

Thanks Aida -- darn, none in my size : (

  • Irene replied 13 years ago

I can't decide which one I like the most :) Wish I could pull off looks like you do!

  • CocoLion replied 13 years ago

All are great Aida. 1-4 are my favorites. I believe one of the reasons everyone is responding so well to #1 is the lighting. In the other shots, you are outside with harsher lighting, thus casting shadows on you and your outfits. In #1, the lighting is very even with no shadows making you look dreamy and feminine. Well, the light colors help too. Just thought I would apply my analytical mind to this as well! ;-)

Oh and I have another idea -- have you ever tried pairing the grey shoes from #4 with the look in #3? That one change would take the outfit in a more feminine direction, if you feel so inclined. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just two different moods.

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

What a week, Aida! I love #1 as well, especially that green coat which is so flattering. I think CL is right about the lighting, and also your hair being down makes it a more feminine look.

I really like #2 as well. I just scored a pair of wide-leg 7FAMK jeans that I hope will look like those when hemmed a tiny bit.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks Airin, Denise, and Una!

Denise - You are certainly right about the lighting! Usually it's cloudy out so even outside the lighting is fairly even, I have to find a good sunny photo spot! Good idea on the girlier shoes, I actually did that with the same jeans yesterday :)

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

I swear, Aida, you get noticeably fabber every time you post!

That green jacket is just killing me. Seriously. I'm dead.

  • Aunty replied 13 years ago

Wow what a week. You look fab in each and every one of those outfit's. Pleeeease can I have the green jacket when you have finished with it!!!
