WIW 04.09, 11-13

Some outfits for the week, been busier than normal! Not feeling colorful, apparently :) Also just realized these are all pretty similar in silhouette, so I'll definitely be mixing it up for Thursday and Friday.

  1. Saturday, worn to get burgers after having worked at home in my PJs all day.
  2. Monday, worn to work then out for tacos. Tried belting my coat which has gotten to big for me, but it felt fussy and I'm not sure I'll be doing it again.
  3. Tuesday, worn to work then out for the monthly Seattle Type meeting. This felt too western/70s-car-salesman for me; I ended up untucking the top and tucking in the scarf as shown in the lower right mirror photo (pardon the silly pose ^^). Also wore orange lip tint since all the other accents were red.
  4. Wednesday (today), worn to work then will be going out for drinks with friends who just got back from Maui (I want to hear how the snorkeling went! I LOVE fishies!).

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

I cannot get past outfit #3 to view the rest with an objective eye. KILLER to the power of KILLER!! One of the very best outfits *ever* on YLF. (Of course, it is my colour palette so I am biased - no 70's car salesman on my screen).

Good grief. I need to recover from Outfit #3. And your collages are stunning.

I am with Angie - love #3 very much but all of them are great, Aida. It is too bad you did not feel comfortable with tucked in shirt and untucked scarf because they looked great.

  • taylor replied 12 years ago

#3 looks like it was pulled from my closet!! I love #3, but your smile in #4 is KILLER..you have such a pretty smile:)

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Aida, wow! Great week so far.

Okay, I am in love with you gray vest. Is it from BR? Is it the one Amyreh has? Love, love!

Um, the self-described used car salesman outfit? Um, yeah. So that is like pretty much your best posting ever. I feel you are going to get a ton of copycats on that one! You are a star.

You are the best half-tucker ever.

EEE!!! I can't wait for Thursday and Friday postings.

Hope you had fun with your friends tonight, Aida.

You have some killer scarves there! I love outfit 3 in either incarnation, and I don't mind the belted coat in 2 either... you could try a thicker belt with the coat if you still aren't feeling it with the skinny one. Oh, and I must high five the semi-tucking. Just my speed. :)

You have great outfits here but #4 really is something else. I think you look great with tucked in shirt.
    Fab as always.

  • Marley replied 12 years ago

Ok - I would definitely buy a car from you if you approached me in outfit #3! Just lovely! Also, first thing I noticed about #4 was your smile in the center picture. Just beautiful! Thanks for posting!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Aw you gals are great, thank you everyone!! I knew I should've posted the third outfit the day I wore it so I didn't feel crazy for thinking it up. Clearly it was out of my comfort zone; I will wear it again and leave the shirt tucked and scarf untucked :)

Angie - Thank you very much, I'm kind of speechless! :o

Taylor - Well that IS exciting if I can put together anything that looks like it came from your closet!

Heather - The vest is from United Colors of Benetton, I got it erhm a year ago or so? Oooh I love copycats so everyone copy away (but post pics!) :D

  • lyn* replied 12 years ago

Heehee; I love the lot (as usual!) The blue and white top (gigham? lol) in #4 is radiant and glowing on you :) I love it!!!

  • Louise replied 12 years ago

These are great. I love your collages so professional looking x

  • chouette22 replied 12 years ago

I love them all as well. What a great week. And those black patent pumps again - I need a pair!

  • thimblelina replied 12 years ago

Yeah... The collages are great. We should have a used car salesman day and copy you. That really was a great look! And I love how the coat looks with that black belt, but I also understand how it not feeling right could drive a person batty. It just reads so crisp and graphic in the photos. L

  • Laurie replied 12 years ago

How do you make your fabulous collages? My fave of these four is #3- that scarf is outta sight! a close second is the blue gingham shirt in #4- thanks for the inspiration!

  • replied 12 years ago

I have to chime in too and say I also LOVE #3! You look gorgeous! I especially like the photo with the blazer. I can't see the orange lip color well in the photo, but it sounds very pretty...and fun with the red accessories!

  • cloud9 replied 12 years ago

wowza, especially #3 the one with your amazing red bag, you totally look like Angie!

  • Jenna S. replied 12 years ago

I am in love with these! I'm obsessed with the idea of skinny cargos, a striped top, and a vest for a great casual outfit (2). I've never loved the look of skinny cargos before, but you've made me want to run out and buy some for the first time!

Like others, I also love look 3 for a more formal venture. The pops of red add an amazing and cohesive appeal to the whole outfit, and I'm definitely going to be pairing more silk scarves with button-downs and blazers.

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

OMG, you look most excellent, Aida! Gosh, I can't even pick a fave although I love #3. I don't think it looks too western at all--its just fab! You are soooo in your style groove. I'm loving the addition of those wovens--so polished!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Oh, I love #3, too! I may have to copy it! ;)

And the rest are fab, as well!! I love the scarf in #1!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Just echoing the others here that #3 is an absolute stunner - sell me a car any time! I also loved #1 - you look very comfy and svelte. You're continuing to step it up in such a fab way. I am hugely impressed with how you thought everything through and implemented it in such a consistent manner.

  • Bookarella replied 12 years ago

You look great in all of these, but I LOVE 3. Like you said, it was something different for you, but it works so well. Please wear it again! :)

  • Antje replied 12 years ago

Wow, that 3rd outfit is KILLER indeed! I am taking note and might copy this. Not Western at all; it looks very smart and sophisticated. I want that shirt and scarf! Very very cool.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I love all of these looks! Your style has really gone through the roof!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thank all you very much, ladies! I'm feeling both glad and silly (since I had doubts about it) that #3 is going over so well ^^ I also didn't realize until reading everyone's lovely comments that it is certainly very Angie-inspired, she's wearing essentially the same top/scarf style in the background of the site! So thanks once again, Angie :D

L - Mainly the belt didn't stay put, it slid up, slid down... The coat has a nipped in seam right where I put the belt so having it move around like that looked awkward. A wider belt as some suggested would probably have solved that problem.

Laurie - Thank you! I do my collages in Photoshop. I wrote about it here a while back.

Sammi - I've been enjoying mixing in the orange lip when I wear red accessories, makes it less matchy :D

Jenna - I'm not a fan of those skinny cargoes for myself, so I simply bought a pair of olive twill skinnies. They work just as well, though slightly less trendy, and I don't have to worry about adding bulk to my thighs. I find them extremely versatile.

Kelly - I took stock of my woven tops and they're all button-ups! I need to learn how to find other woven blouses now, but that kind of scares me; I have no idea what to look for -_-

Mary - If you copy #3 I expect photos :D

Una - It's getting harder each morning when I look in my closet and still see predominantly tees; I have so many things to replace! But the challenge is still fun in its own way. Also, I'm going through Una WIW withdrawals here (*hint hint*)!!

Antje - The shirt is from Target (this one here), sized up. The scarf I thrifted, pretty sure it's from the late 70s/early 80s based on material/construction/print. I thrift all of my silk scarves :)

I'm not looking at the other comments until after I give my two cents.

    1. The shoes take this outfit from "nothing special" to "she's got it together" for me, nice touch!

2.I really like the fit of this vest on you. I'd love to see it remixed with a really long top sometime too for some fun. For the coat, did you try a wider belt? Maybe that would be less fussy? Or an elastic belt?

3.This is 100% an Angie outfit. And I love this on you! I actually prefer the shirt tucked in. Untucked, with the scarf long, there's too much volume going on to my eye. I want to copy this outfit.

    4. Classic Aida killer style here too. But #3 is still my favorite!

  • cheryl replied 12 years ago

Aida, you are adorable. I love all of your looks! You take casual and just kick it up a notch, more like a ton of notches, haha. :)

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

    Thanks Lisa and Cheryl!

Lisa - Re #1: I love how patent heels have that effect! Re #2: Hmm vest with long shirt sounds interesting and I'd never have thought of it. I'll definitely give that a try! I did try a wide elastic belt but it looked too forced (it may have been TOO wide). Re #3: I hope you'll post it, I'd love to see :D
