Couple outfits, experimenting as usual :)

  1. Worn Saturday to run some errands, then we had a bunch of friends over for a homebrew uncorking (what's it called for beer??) party. Enjoyed pairing the dotty socks with the stripes, it only showed when I was sitting down but it was noticed and complimented on :)
  2. Worn to work yesterday. Felt like looking a bit Northwestern with lots of layers, including a snood I was inspired by Anna to wear; I think the plaid was too soft in color for the teal, I'd wear stronger colors next time. Also sacrificed my usual leg-lengthening just for fun; I like the rolled jeans look but I rarely do it since I'm so short.
  3. Worn to work today, then out for the monthly local type gathering. Wanted to look slightly businessy, and had this color palette in my head to try out (brown, olive, navy, cobalt).

Love, love, love #1. That's Aida style at it's finest. Bold colors, signature stripe, denim, pumps--what's not to love? The blazer outfit is quite nice too. Great use of color--it's stunning! Cute Northwestern look--DH went to WSU and I remember many a plaid and denim ensembles. You make it look stylish : )

ETA: What are those boots if you don't mind me asking? I love the wedge heel.

Love the dot socks, what a fun touch! I'm a big fan of bright socks, the more colors and print the better!

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

You had me with the socks! Such a cute pose :)

  • lyn* replied 13 years ago

I love the boots in #3 ... :) they look sooooo comfy!!! The jacket in #1 is a close second favorite; it fits you very well!

  • taylor replied 13 years ago

    LOVE your style as always!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks ladies!

Kelly - The boots are "Boystown" by Not Rated, I think you can still find a few online if you look.

Lisa - Me too! I always pair my socks in a way that's matching and fun, even though they rarely get seen.

Angie - Hehe, I had hubby take these photos, but it was so late I couldn't get a good smile off. Next time!

    Lyn - Thanks very much!

Taylor - Thanks, that's a great compliment to hear coming from you! I feel like I'm a bit all over, but I enjoy experimenting :)

Love the 'sock surpise'! The only suggestion I might make is to do a vertical fold of the bottom hem of the jeans before rolling in look 2. I have found it gives a slightly more fitted look that can really finish a look like like this. I so enjoy your WIW posts.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Refugee, could you explain that fold in more detail? I tried in vain to get it to be more fitted (almost like a peg), and couldn't figure it out. But I think what you're describing is what I was after.

#1 is gorgeous! It's almost a reason not to sport PPL.

I also like what you did in #2, I live in the CA mountains and that look fits right in.

For #3, I like the silhouette and three of the four colors in your scheme (Brown, Navy, Cobalt). I think it's my issue with Olive at play. I purchased quite a few Olive items for fall/winter but have either given them away or they are sitting in my drawers unworn. I still haven't figured out, other than black and brown, which colors work with Olive.

Let me try to explain what I mean. With jeans unrolled, pinch the bottom hem vertically between you thumb and fingers on you inseam. Pinch it tighter than you want the end resultling roll as it will relax as you roll the jeans. Take the pinched fabric and fold it horizontally to lay flat against the leg of the jean. Using your thumb and fore finger hold the fold together and then start the horizontal roll of the jean. Does that make sense?

  • marianna replied 13 years ago

The polka dot socks are the cutest thing I've ever seen!

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Refugee is recommending a narrowed hem. We used to do that--pinch the fabric vertically and place the fold against the pant leg, then roll it up. It makes a narrower opening at the bottom.

Thanks for the info on the boot. They are a bit too high for me though : ( Killer on you!

Yay a snood! Love your polka dot socks and outfit #3.

  • Jenava replied 13 years ago

Oh, you had me at the polka dot sock!

I think the teal works fine with the plaid, actually. I like the combo. Yeah, I used to peg my jeans in 6th grade...let me see...that would have been about 1991?

You color palette in #3 is also very nice. I think it works. I wonder what a different cami would look like, though. I think I'd prefer the brown to stay only in the boots and do a navy or cream cami? Just a thought.

OMG #1 is my favorite look of yours EVER! I may have to copy that at some point!! Love the others, too, especially the fab boots in #3!

  • Marley replied 13 years ago

You look so great! I LOVE everything about #1 - EVERYthing! The others are wonderful too - the cobalt blue is so pretty on you! Thanks for posting!

  • Jonesy replied 13 years ago

Fab outfits as usual! The first one is spectacular--love it!! So playful and fun. I really like the snood/plaid combo as well, and the color combo in 3.

  • Lynne replied 13 years ago

Aida, the first is my fave - gorgeous. We live near a university, I drive through every morning on the school run, and the teeners have ALL started wearing plaid shirts - they're obviously back IN...at least in Copenhagen :). DH has a wardrobe full - very cuddly :) !

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

Love #1 and #3 - you are a layering pro! #2 is cute - reminds me a bit of the first Twilight movie (never saw the rest), very Pacific NW!

  • Mo replied 13 years ago

#1 is too fun!! I love it!

  • Heather replied 13 years ago

Aida, you are too cute! I love your "secret-sharing" pose in #1. Just darling.

  • Ornella replied 13 years ago

It always looks like you have lots of fun putting these together!
Black-white-red combination is one of my favorites, and I'm thinking of how I can "do Aida" myself!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Wow, thanks for all the lovely responses everyone!! Pardon the upcoming wall of text, wanted to reply to everyone :)

Marianna, Mo, hbaber - Thank you very much!

Coco - I REALLY love olive and have been slowly building it as one of my base wardrobe neutrals. I treat it like any other neutral and pair it with pretty much any color. If you like olive and still want to try to incorporate it, I'd suggest starting with swapping out what you'd usually wear in brown to olive. Should help you figure out what colors pair well with it for you.

Refugee, Kelly - Aha! Just tried it and that's much closer to what I was going for. I'll have to give that a go in another outfit, thanks!

Anna - I think I'm a snood convert! Any time I want a circle scarf, from now on I'll get a snood in its place.

Jenava, Jonesy - Glad you think the teal works with the plaid, I was 50-50 about it.

Jenava - I like the idea of a cream cami, I'll try that next time!

Mary - You should! Now that you have a striped shirt and all :)

Marley - I was inspired to wear this cobalt top after looking over your Sart looks actually (your blue coat is awesome)! This is the only item I have in this color, it's certainly growing on me.

Lynne - I never got the memo about plaid being out, I've had plaid in my wardrobe for over a decade; shirts, pants, shoes, you name it :) Though I must say currently having a good selection in soft fabrics available is nice. I plan to pick up several soft plaid button-ups this spring!

Una - I haven't seen any of the Twilights, but I wore a lot of similar looks to this in the 90s as a kid (but with combat boots, and more spikes and chains heh) when all the Seattle alternative/grunge looks were "in" :)

Ellie - Angie's #1 rule of "have fun" is the Best Rule for sure! I always try to have fun with my outfits, which is why each one is usually an experiment. Hmm... it might be fun to do some threads for our WIW posters where others try to identify what makes their look "them."
