Poll: Curly hair info/vids

Hi ladies! During my time here on YLF I've had a lot of questions about how I do my hair, take care of the curls, etc. which, to my surprise, have increased quite a bit since cutting my hair short. I never really considered that my hair was worthy of talking about until coming here, to be honest :)

I've replied to various posts with various info, which I think come up when one searches for them. But now I am thinking of writing a proper detailed blog post about what works for ME (process, products, methods, etc), and then I got thinking that a video might be a better way to explain some of it... Which of course means I'd be getting into a lot more work to produce all the information, even though I actually don't spend much time on my hair.

My hair is both fine and thin, so I don't think all of the information would necessarily be relevant for normal thicker curly hair, but I definitely know that info on my particular curly hair type is slim. So I'm curious how many of you would find this useful before I take time to write/film it all (obviously I couldn't do a vid on the long hair at the moment, but I could write about it).

YAY - I would find this information useful
NAY - I can find this information via the forum/Google search

If only a particular thing is useful to you, please vote YAY and explain in the comments what that is. Thank you!

This post is also published in the youlookfab forum. You can read and reply to it in either place. All replies will appear in both places.

My hair is quite fine, and has a bit of wave to it, so I could probably find some of the info relevant.

I have a lot of curly/wavy hair, but it is also fine, strand by strand. My father being an engineer/machinist with a machine shop in the garage, took out the micrometer one night after dinner and my hair was thinnest in the family by a long shot. Anyway, I digress. Yes, I would find it interesting although I admit to having no patience with product and styling of my own hair beyond 5 minutes of spraying in detangler and maybe drying my bangs halfway.

Aida I was in Italy when you debuted your new hair, so I saw but did not comment (I am an old fogey and refuse to type without a keyboard). So let me take this opportunity to say it is gorgeous, I love it, and yes, I would love to see your video.

Count me in too. My hair is fine and wavy (it's easy to bring out the curl, especially in summer) but I have a fair amount of it (although not as much as I used to, which is actually a blessing, since when it was thicker it was hard to manage!).

I find myself using the straightening iron very seldom these days, and I'm embracing the wave more, so I'd be interested. I barely spend any time styling my hair.

Thank you for your generous offer to share!

Please do ... I will love to see your techniques. I'm a hair girl.

I have a thick head of pretty straight hair which requires minimal styling, but I would still find your video interesting!

Yay from me!! I'm always interested in seeing how people style their curly hair and look for new tips to pick up.

I'm so in love with your new cut, your curls look so springy. Mine is heavy right now, I really need my layers trimmed!

Thanks for the input so far ladies, good to hear there's some interest. Still taking poll votes, so please chime in if you're interested!

(Hmm now to start scheming how to do all of this....)

    Oh, I'm absolutely interested!
I've never quite learned how to style my fine, wavy/curly hair, other than to straighten it, and I really appreciated your helpful hints on my recent post. There does seem to be a learning curve to having nice curls and avoiding frizz, and I need all the help I can get.

My hair is bone straight, but I would *love* to read or watch any kind of blog post or video that you'd come up with for your curls. You have gorgeous hair, and even though I don't have curls, I'd still be very interested in hearing what works for you!

Fine, thin, curly--you've described my hair. I've just gone short after years of wearing a chin-length bob which had enough weight to pull down the curl. I'm liking the short cut, but this whole styling thing-- including the use of "product??"-- is totally new.

I'd love to see any tips that could help: put me down as a big YAY!

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

thin and curly here too :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the input ladies, I am surprised there are so many thin/fine curly haired gals here! Based on the lack of info I found on this hair type when I wear learning about it years ago, I thought I was the only one ;) I'll start working on a short series of posts/videos on what I've found, the products/processes that work for me, and how I style my hair. Need to experiment with the new short cut for another week before I do any videos, but I'll work on getting an info post together soon.

My hair is also rather fine, and it seems to be thinning as I get older. Pout. I can usually make it curly fairly easily but it also tends to get weirdly fluffy and can sometimes look like a bad 80s perm. So any tips are always worth investigating!
