K/R: AT slouchy pants (+other AT loot)

My slouchy Ann Taylor trousers arrived this morning (yay!!), along with a few other items I ordered. Would love to hear all of your thoughts and opinions on these, I've got thick skin :)

#1/2 - First let me say that I LOVE THESE TROUSERS. Whew, now that that's out of the way I do have a couple concerns. I didn't order the petite because I thought they would be too short, but I am almost certain that these are waaaaay too long. I like a lot of scrunch, but I think this is just too much. Now, I am currently in the process of losing the last bit of extra winter weight so I will be losing about 0.5-0.75 pant sizes; this will make the pant sit lower and those legs even longer. The other problem I usually have with petites is the rise is always too short. With all of the above in consideration, what do we think of the fit of these? :)

#3 - I'm currently thinking of returning these black walk shorts. They're baggy in the seat, and will get even baggier by the end of April once the weight is gone. I also don't think black is going to be the best color for my summer wardrobe; olive or gray would fit much better. So unless you gals think these are amazing, I'll be returning.

#3-5 - I had high hopes for these pointy flats, but goodness they are LONG. And I think the bright blue tips are making them look even longer. I'm on the fence about them. They are comfortable, and seem to fit properly but are just so very pointy. Was hoping they could act as a nude flat for non-pant looks, but I dunno now. I don't have feet issues but I feel like these are making my feet look... Aladdin-y. Thoughts?

#3/6 - Well I was expecting this cuff to be ivory instead of gold, and it's, like, really solid. It's borderline too heavy to wear, so this is almost certainly going back.

LOVE the pants! They are K-worthy on you, girl! Oooh, can't wait to get mine now!

I am indifferent on the shorts. The cuff is fantabulous but if too heavy, there's no point keeping it. I've got a bit of poison-eye for that type of flats, but I also think the toe show doesn't look quite right.

  • Laura replied 12 years ago

I love the pants!! Woo hoo! How are you going to wear them? Do you have a floaty blouse and peep toe booties??

  • Laura replied 12 years ago

Oops, I was so enthusiastic that I forgot to agree with you that they have a bit too much scrunch at the hem. Maybe it would be best to have them hemmed? They seem to fit so well and a petite size might throw that off.

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

I LOVE the pants. They did not have my size in the orange in my store (weeping) I would hem these because the rise seems perfect (unless you can order the petites to see the difference).
The shorts are ok - you're right great from front, ok from side, a little baggy in back.
I'm not loving the shoes or the cuff - you're right to return those. The blue too pointy toe is just not pleasing to the eye.

  • replied 12 years ago

I LOVE those pants. They are fabulous! P.S. Where did you get that white t-shirt?! I have been searching forever for non-transparent white tees!!

Indifferent about the shorts. The shoe color combination is lovely, but they look too big. Maybe try a nude/blush + royal/cobalt blue combination in your clothing in the shoe's spirit?

  • replied 12 years ago

I'm curious to see what Angie says about the fit of these pants. The only part that looks slouchy to me is at the hem, so maybe you can size up since you'll have to hem them anyway. I think the shoes are cute, as are the shorts, but I'm not sure cute is what you're after.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the feedback so far, looks like they're going over well and that my hunches on the other items and that the slouchy pair need hemming were good.

Laura, thanks for the styling idea! I do have a floaty blouse and peep toes :D

Sharon, the tee is from Target a couple years ago. It is a bit sheer, but not totally transparent. I've got another drapey tee from Target that's also decently substantial. They usually have a couple good, weightier tees each year.

Claire, the trousers actually slouch everywhere except the waist band! The hips don't have uber amounts of slouch right now, but they will have more soon. If I were to size up now, they'd almost fall off me so when the rest of that weight goes they would definitely be too large.

  • Sarah A replied 12 years ago

I like the fit of the pants, although I agree for a bit of hemming, I think pass on the rest...

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

The pants are great to my eye! And yes, I definitely think this is the right slouchy size. I'd hem them rather than go petite. Petite will end up scrunching in the wrong way at the other end! Ugh!!

I quite like the shorts, actually, but we can't see the bagginess as much as you (with them being black). So if they don't feel good, back they go. Ditto the other stuff.

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Those pants look great on you. If you have concerns about the rise on petites, then stick with these and hem.

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

More love for those slouchy pants on you and to hem them up a bit (or use fashion tape until you lose the rest of the weight). Some scrunch would look good though.
I like the pointy flats but see that they are not everyone's choice. Yu need to get something that you love. The shorts look ok . I have black KK shorts that usually get paired with a print with black in it like a stripe, polkadot, check or even floral.

  • Jilly replied 12 years ago

Love those pants! I agree with Laura, too, on the styling. I also agree that the cuff and the pointy toe shoes need to go. I wouldn't have thought of aladdin until you said something, but I think you're right:) And I like the black walk shorts, but not as much as the pants.

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

I love the pants! I think they are the right size and fit. I even kind of like the harem effect of the extra scrunch, but they'd probably be more versatile if you hemmed just a little.

Not crazy about the shorts or shoes. I think the cuff is cool, but if it's too heavy then you'll never wear it, so you're right to send it back.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Love the pants and I like how they sit a bit low. I think Angie prefers hers to sit lower as well. They just need a bit of hemming as they are a bit too long. They look fantastic on you Aida and I can see them working with a lot of your wardrobe.

I like the black shorts but it's hard to tell about the bum stretching issue in the photo. Only you can tell how much they stretch so go with what's comfortable for you.

I like the cuff a a lot - again, if it's too heavy then don't keep. You need to be comfortable.

I'm afraid I don't care much for the shoes.

  • christy replied 12 years ago

Pants are great! I agree that you might want to have them shortened - seems like a bit too much scrunch. The black walking shorts look like a good basic, but if you don't seem them working with your summer wardrobe then no sense in keeping them. Have to admit that I'm not a fan of the flats. Cuff is great, but if it's too heavy then it should probably go back. I'm excited to see you style the pants!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Yay I'm so glad these pants are getting lots of love. Thank you all so much for the feedback so far!! I do realize that black walk shorts are a versatile piece, but I wear very little black in the summer and already have slim black culottes which are kind of similar (but not really). I think it'd work better for me to add some brightly colored shorts, and walk shorts in gray. Still undecided on the shoes and cuff, but leaning towards returning.

Joy, great idea on the fashion tape. I'm not sure how much the pants will lower, but I'm sure it'll affect the length of the leg. Would be great to hem only once, and correctly.

Diana, I kind of like that harem-y effect too! I could still get that affect with hemming, there's several extra inches down there. I don't think I'd hem to the ankle, you know I love my slouch :)

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

LOVE the pants!! :-) I agree with just hemming them. They look like they fit you perfectly besides that! I wish we had an Ann Taylor close by. Surpisingly, I'm not thrilled with the shoes either. I like them from the top view, but not the side. I actually tried on a similiar pair in Rockport the other day, of all places. I think the store is new here in Canada and I wouldn't normally check them out. I was at a new mall, though and they had quite a few cute shoes I liked. They just got them on their site: http://www.rockport.com/ASHIKA.....atnew=null They had blue at the store, too. Anyway, the pants are amazing!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 12 years ago

I love the pants on you. The fit is perfect, though I would hem them. (I do like the slouch at the bottom from the front, but from the side, and back, they just look too long to me. So I'd try to keep some slouch.)

The shorts look like a good fit, but given your concerns that they will be too big, I'd return them. I actually think black shorts can be a little less versatile than one would think. I've had them and found myself passing them up more often than not, choosing lighter colors like khaki and even a dark olivey-brown instead. I think I like the less severe contrast with my untanned legs.

I agree the point on the shoes is oddly shaped, and they even look stiff, as if they'd be uncomfortable. If you don't like what you see when you look down at your feet, you won't wear them.

The cuff is dramatic, but if uncomfortable, it should go back, too.

P.S. The pants alone are worth the shipping charges!

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

Oooh, love the trousers. I can see you rocking those this spring/summer. I can't wait for some outfits! I think the shoes are too pointy but I'm kind of conservative that way. Black shorts seem to be a dime a dozen. I'd return and get some shorts that you love.

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

Pointy toe shoes usually add a little length so that is normal but the fit on those otherwise is funny - too much toe cleavage? You could do better on a pointed tow flat I suspect.
Love the pants and hope the hemming plan is firm in your mind - those will look so great on you!
Bracelet is distinctive but if it's too heavy and you won't wear it comfortably, you can find a different cuff somewhere else.
1 out of 4 for shopping online - not bad.

  • Makrame replied 12 years ago

The trousers are perfect! (or will be perfect with a bit of hemming). Looking forward to seeing your outfit photos - these pants really seem to fit well with your style, I think you'll have fun styling them.

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

First of all, nice nails, Aida!

Like everyone, LOVE the pants. Definitely don't bother with the petite if rise is often an issue. I know because that's the bane of my existence, even in regular sizes. Bad idea. Much easier to hem just a tiny bit, leaving plenty of scrunchability.

The black shorts look like a good fit to me, but that's irrelevant as it's the colour that is giving you pause. I have to agree with Firecracker --- black can be less than versatile! In fact, my black pants get the *least* wear in my wardrobe, because most mid-tones and muted shades find black too harsh to play with. You wear black well despite your fair skin, possibly because of your high-contrast hair and eyes, but if in doubt... why bother?

I am, however, going to be the sole outlier and say I LOVE the shoes on you! Maybe because it's a cultural comfort zone --- Indian jooties tend to have a sharply pointed toe, often curling back on itself, but I like that slight hint of 'Eastern exotic' (Arabian Nights, as you say!) about them, and they're a very pretty colour plus nude on you.

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

The drape of those pants is super! Why not just get these shortened ever so slightly? I think petite sometimes fit differently as you note. I like the black shorts and could imagine them looking really good with heels and a graphic blouse, but I can't see the baggy issue that you feel, so I would trust your instincts if you think they're too loose. I like the shoes and do not think they look too pointy and long (I wear similar booties), but what I don't like is the way the tip points up in the air a little. For that reason I would return. The cuff looks really cool, but if it is heavy and uncomfortable, I vote return.

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Lobe the pants! Fit is good and hemming will make them perfect!

Shorts look good to me, but hard to see the bagginess.

I like the pointy flats but realize I'm in the minority here.

Cuff is fab but if not comfortable you won't wear it.

  • Mona replied 12 years ago

I am totally in love with these pants. they look like they were made for you. I can't wait when stores in my town start carrying these pants.

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

Gosh, those pants are AMAZING on you! Woohoo! I actually find my black bermudas to be a good versatile wardrobe piece, but if you don't love them, perhaps return them. I think I agree with you about the shoes - now that you mention it, they do look a bit elf-like. I think it's the nude with the dark toe that creates that illusion.

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

As skeptical as I am about the return of this style in pants, I've got to say they look great on you. A little hemming and you're golden.

I agree the shorts are ok but not exceptional, and the cuff is cool but quite large. However, I like the shoes! I'm a fan of pointy toe flats.

  • replied 12 years ago

I love how the pants fit, however, I'm not loving the color. I think It could be the photo. As far as the flats, I am on the fence. I'm so stumped by the blue tip. I'm not sure if I like it or not. The cuff is nice but is not knocking my socks off.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thank you all SO much for the great feedback and input on all of these pieces! The shorts are definitely going back (too baggy and not in a good way, and I do have a pair of black midi-length culottes AND black silky shorts so I think I'm OK sending this pair back and looking for a light olive or gray pair instead), the cuff too (alas just too heavy). Shoes still undecided; I actually don't mind the Middle Eastern vibe from them (that's my background, after all) but I think that they are a half size too large (AT only does whole sizes). Angie if you're out there, I'd LOVE to hear what you think about these flats.

This morning I was able to try a petite pair of the slouchy trousers thanks to Una, and I think I actually like them better. Will start a new post with photos for your thoughts!

Manidipa, my coloring is somewhere between Autumn and Winter and I've come to the conclusion that I'm warm-toned with the ability to wear a few cool tones as well. I call myself "Icy Autumn", full of those fiery intense colors on crisp Autumn days and nights. I rarely wear muted and mid-tones, so black works well with my wardrobe. I've found I just don't really like to wear it much when it's warm out :)

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Can't wait to see your petite AT trousers! Now I want a pair too.

I think the bangle is really cool but if it's too heavy, return it.

I like pointy toe shoes (a lot) but these aren't doing anything for me. If the two colors were less contrasty and they had a slightly higher vamp I might like them more. (Sorry, but you said you were thick-skinned!)

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

I commented on the trousers in your other post so on to the rest of the keep returns. The shorts, if they are baggy now and you are looking at more weight loss I vote return and wait until you are at your goal weight. Shorts will not be as forgiving to weight loss as baggy trousers are. The shoes, I'm a nay vote. I don't mind the pointy style and color on you, but the blue tip, really draws the eye to how exaggerated the shoes are and cuts off the leg lengthening vibe. I'm also a nay for the bracelet. I get a super hero vibe with that much thick metal on the wrist.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks Denise and Lisa! I'm going to go ahead and send the shorts, shoes, and cuff on back. I still want a pair of pointy flats, but I'm already almost full on shoes so I'll just continue looking until I find the perfect pair :)
