WIW [fall YLF meetups]

Outfits worn to various recent meetups! The first two are from this past weekend, and I'm throwing in two outfits from meetups earlier this fall as well. Going to have to wear something colorful to the next one ;)

#2 11.06 (Seattle) - Expected rain but happily it was dry. This semi-sheer tunic is actually a really lovely mossy olive unlike what the photos show. Worn with a very cropped cream sweater, black waxed jeans (hems folded under), and cream booties. Finished with cherry pink lipstick and gray rock crystal studs, plus plaid coat which picks up on the creamy bits for the cold and black+neon clutch for some hectic print mixing. After a few years of minimalism I'm feeling like the occasional venture back into layering, this time around with several light/gauzy layers. We'll see.
  Newer: sweater, tunic, jeans, earrings
  Older: booties, coat, clutch

#3 11.07 (Tulalip outlet mall) - Expected rain and got LOADS of it. I mean, I had to bring an umbrella (fellow Cascadians will understand why this is A Weird Thing). Dressed mainly for warmth, skewing casual for the environment. This fringey sweater is actually ink; the Finds photo shows the color and texture. Paired with charcoal and black, plus cream trench for rainy outdoors bits. Finished with giant gold hoops and peachy-nude lip gloss for a little extra casual/sporty glam.
  Newer: sweater, jeans
  Older: shoes, earrings, trench, clutch

#4 09.09 (Seattle) - Way back in September when Una was in town for a layover! A favorite white-out combo, with cheetah booties and gold sequin clutch for depth.
  Newer: [none]
  Older: [all]

#5 09.26 (Seattle) - Oatmeal tunic with faux kick-flares (straight leg pants with hems rolled under) and a very old pair of higher shaft ankle booties. Side note: really good hair day!
  Newer: [none]
  Older: [all]

#6 earring/lippie details - #2 top left, #3 top right, #4 bottom left, #5 bottom right.

Wow! You rock a tunic like nobody's business! I especially like the short-over-long look in #2! Wish I could have been there with you all!

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

I love each and every one of these. The first tunic outfit is the most different and I want to try it! You look gorgeous in the fringy ink sweater. And gorgeous in the light sweater also. I love how you made the good old tunic over narrow pants look totally fresh in the last outfit by folding under the jeans. and now the question - how do you fold under the jeans so that they stay in place and look so finished? Copying minds want to know!

I really like all of these outfits but my favorite photo #5. Love pale blue with black and this combo is perfect.

Thank you Mary, Jaime, and Bonnie!

Mary, you know, I don't wear tunics often as I find them hard to fit, so I usually don't have many (or any) in my closet. This season I finally have a few and have certainly been enjoying wearing them.

Jaime, the first outfit felt different to me too and I really enjoyed wearing it! The ultra light layers were key. Will be experimenting further. As for pant folding, it seems to work best with less soft/slick fabric and when there isn't much to fold -- Both the white jeans and the black pants are already ankle length, so the fold itself was smaller; the black waxed jeans are rather long, so they basically get an inverted "big cuff". To actually fold, I pull the hem up, turn it over the top like an outside cuff, then carefully flip it outside in. To keep it looking finished requires a little patience in flattening out the fabric, and then some "hand ironing" to press the hem itself flat. Did that make any sense? ><

Stunning, just stunning!! You are a master of style, Aida. These pics are a great education in PPL--I see what you are saying about footwear and skin reveal with skinnies/leggings. I also like the length on the faux kick flares--I'm guessing the flare allows a greater skin gap to work so well here. All of these are fantastic, and I love those large hoop earrings on you. Thanks for posting these looks!

  • replied 8 years ago

Oh and I also *love* the longer sleeves on the tunic in pic 5.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks Aliona! The skin in #5 is a bit exaggerated from the norm (like Angie's are here) but I enjoyed the effect :) I'm also a huge fan of extra long sleeves -- and I have a hard time finding even normal length long sleeves -- so I'm happy that they're fashionable at the moment!

You looked wonderful.  The soft, fluttery tunic reminded me of a Cascading moth flitting through firs.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Lovely outfits. I'm thinking I need a cropped sweater and cheetah booties now.

Laughing about your umbrella comment. It sprinkles here and I use an umbrella to walk from the car to the store. I hate getting wet (good thing I live in the desert).

These are all terrific! My favorite is the layered look in the first outfit (you might have guessed). The colors are up my alley--and they look great on you!--and the layering works so well.
Your outfit for the Tulalip gathering was just as fab in person. As was the mixed whites outfit in photo 4. Love that sweater on you.
My umbrella certainly got a workout in Tulalip, too!

Seriously gorgeous outfits, Aida! I don't know how you do it but you certainly do it well! Nope, can't pick a fave although I really love the proportions of 1 and the tonal look of 2. LOVE every one of these!

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

My faves are pics 3 and 5. I might copy no 5! I would love to be able to wear pants like the ones you wear in pic 3 but I have a well founded fear of patch pockets on my thighs. But you look great :)

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

All are happy, and gorgeous, but I cant get pass over nr 1-2 the olive tunic with the cream short sweater!!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!!! I need to copy that one...

  • replied 8 years ago

Oooh lovely, all of them...but I love the olive/cream combo so much I want to marry it!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Fabulous all of them! It's hard to pick a favourite but I would say that I'm most drawn to the short sweater over the khaki shirt look. I really need to take note of the length of your jeans with boots. They're perfect and it's something that I really struggle with.

  • carter replied 8 years ago

My favorite is #2. Something about the edgy pants with the classic shoes and sweater. Great look. I love that you fold under your pants for the effect you want! I've done that a few times, but I get so paranoid that I'll look down to see one hem where I put it and the other unfolded in the middle of a restaurant where I can't just fix it discreetly;-).

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

These are great outfits one and all. I really like the ink sweater and the lighter one on you. Seems you've done a bit of shopping at J. Crew!

I have been using the same folding under trick with pants and have found more or less the same thing. It works well with some and a little less well with others. I've actually shortened a few pants to ankle length to make it more do-able. These were pants I didn't really wear much in winter (if at all) anyway, so it made sense.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

Love the ease in your "skinny" pants.  It's relaxed, but not sloppy -- a very hard fit for me to achieve, particularly with so much stretch in many of the fabrics.

The layering in #1 is fresh and so flattering.  The lightweight fabrics make a big difference to me --the cropped over long can "bulkify" otherwise.  Of course, #2 would be easier in a dressing room -- and I love the color on you.  Then there's the boots to consider in #3................

    Fab all around, Aida!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I saw ALL meet-up outfits in person, and they were Killer.

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Wow...perfection, every single one. Pressed to pick a fave, the first one for its uniqueness, but I love them all. Seriously!

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

All stunning!  Are those our waxed jeans or your other pair?  Love the fringey sweater and the varied but perfect hemlines.  Your outfit the day we met was just perfect!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! It's always fun deciding what to wear to meetups. Often I like to come up with something I haven't yet worn (like in #2, 3), but in the case of the earlier fall outfits (#4, 5) I was more than happy to repeat favorites ^^

Cerinda, ooh I love the visual of that. I've always liked moths.

Brooklyn, I think many of us share that fear. My suggestion is to look for pants in a lighter fabrication with the pockets firmly in place (no bubbling or pleating). Both of the pants in the Finds below are like this and neither adds much "visual weight". My hunch is you'd look fine in this style of pant. We're usually our worst critics, after all.

Carter, hah! Can't say that's happened to me yet but I tend to adjust my pants when I get up anyway (especially cropped pairs that like to hitch up). Maybe I check the hems without realizing it?

Una, yes the jeans in #2 are our pair :D The other pair is over charcoal and more silvery. Will wear them soon!

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

All fab, but I can't stop staring at 2 with the mossy tunic....love love love

  • Laurie replied 8 years ago

    I was going, "5, 5, 5" and everyone was talking about 2, so I enlarged and well, now it's "5! 2!! 5! 2!!"

You really are just all that and more, Aida -so creative in your looks, so helpfully descriptive of your process and your photos are outstanding.

Thank you for sharing your awesomeness always.

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

Good gravy these are all fantastic outfits! My favorite is #2 because it just looks so creative to me - the cropped sweater over the tunic, with booties that match the sweater. I often feel that when I try to get creative with outfits it's a fail, but yours was a huge success!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you Carole, Laurie, and Karie!

  • Adelfa replied 8 years ago

You are looking great! You always have, but now you look more sleek and sophisticated than ever!

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

It was raining so hard on Saturday, that all I remember is your coat and umbrella.  I got to see more of your Friday outfit, which I loved.  The leatherette jeans look like they were made for you, and the layering plus high contrast footwear were so fashion-forward.  The black and white color scheme in #5 suits you, so I love that one too.
