WIW 10.28-30 [rainy weather]

Rain has returned -- I'm making my usual extra effort to wear contrasting, colorful, bright and/or cheerful outfits while the weather is gloomy. Been quite wet and windy, but not the usual constant rainfall we get this time of year (at least not during the day); and it's been a bit warm so my cream trench was more than enough for outerwear the past few days.

#2/3 10.28 - Wednesday I went with a graphic black and white because I felt like wearing these equestrian-seamed, extra cozy and thick leggings. Paired with a dropped-waist cotton dress, black patent pumps (would've preferred black pointy flats if I had them), pink rock studs, and a white cuff. A little extra bling (holo clutch) and color (turquoise scarf) for outerwear, and finished with peachy-nude lip gloss.
  Newer: dress, earrings, sunnies
Older: leggings, pumps, cuff, trench, scarf, clutch

#4/5 10.29 - Yesterday I was in the mood for a little navy+olive+cream. I have a new fringed navy sweater which I keep threatening to wear with these mossy pants, but for an extra gloomy and dark day I wanted a little more cheer so instead chose a floral navy sweater. Paired with my favorite cream booties (one of my oldest wardrobe pieces, pre-YLF even, a la Angie's post today), and tucked the top for a crisper feel. Cherry pink lip gloss and double-mascara to add extra life to my face (I find navy tough to wear), black and white chevron earrings for some pattern mix (and to pick up on the booties/coat), and a little twist on the color palette for outerwear subbing in teal for navy. As always my camera seems to be sucking out the warmth of these pants; the richer mossy green in the Finds stock photo is accurate.
  Newer: pants
Older: sweater, booties, earrings, trench, scarf, clutch

#6/7 10.30 - Today I'm wearing a lovely sheer watercolor floral blouse from Sharan/Firecracker, one of her creations (she also graciously gifted me a pair of silvery coated charcoal jeans). Paired with slouchy white jeans, slouchy tall boots, and giant gold hoops for a soft 70s vibe. I'm very ready to pass on these slouchy white jeans in favor of a more fitted pair but will likely wait for spring to replace them. Chose orangey accessories (sunnies, clutch) for outerwear to keep with the 70s feel, and finished with plum lip gloss for a little extra autumn dark.
  Newer: blouse
Older: jeans, boots, earrings, trench, clutch, sunnies

These are all great outfits, but I have a soft spot for navy and olive so I'm going with that as my favorite outfit (and that Halogen sweater is gorgeous). What is it about navy that you don't like? I think you look great in it - at least you do in that sweater, which also has some bright colors in it.

    Bloomin' loverly!

You are chasing away the rain...or the rain is making you grow...who knows which? You look great in all of these.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

What Suz said! Love florals in the rain.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Three super cute looks! Working backward--
Yay--you're wearing the blouse, and it looks great on you! The colors are so much better for you than they would have been for me. I actually bought that fabric, inspired by an Equipment shirt in a similarly bold, bright floral. I love it with the white jeans and tall boots--just a touch of boho.
I wouldn't have thought navy would be a hard color for you to wear. I like this outfit on you a lot. It has a sort of subdued effect, though, and I don't know if it's the colors (navy and olive) or maybe the crew-neck style, which is a little more simple classic than your usual looks? Anyway, it's lovely, just a little different.
I really like drop-waist dresses, and you wear this one so well. I like it paired with the leggings. And the blue sunglasses--what a great color! Speaking of which, I've been thinking maybe I should just stop carrying my sunglasses around in my purse, since I'm not wearing them with the recent turn in weather.

(The rain has returned. GOOD GRIEF. Has it EVER).

First of all, thanks for posting your WIWs, Aida. Know how much I appreciate that you share them with us so beautifully - and of course, your killer style is the cherry on top.

Secondly, SOOOOO with you on wearing happy and high contrasting bright outfits in this very gloomy weather. I've been doing the same - white jeans with orange, citron and cognac, for example.

Thirdly, our styles look quite different visually, yet our sensibilities are very similar (hence we have an assortment of the same wardrobe items). Very interesting! You are the only lass on the forum who shares my love for '70s and '80s Retro Futurism. (I'll throw in the '60s just for me). High five.

Fourthly, those cream booties are still going strong. Go Team Golden Oldies. Love them. I know how you feel that you wish you had another pair.

You look fabulous as ALWAYS sweet Aida. I'm going with the '70s equestrian look is my favourite. Killer combo. Unexpected with the crisp boho floral. YUMMY. And much love to you too.

More gorgeously fab looks Aida. I feel very inspired, because I have some cream trench coat fabric just aching to be made up and seeing you in your fab cream trench has stirred my enthusiasm. It's great to see you sport the florals too. I'm going to go with the last of the three looks as my favourite, with the light jeans and cognac boots, plus the blouse that the lovely Sharan gave you.

Oh you gorgeous thing!!!! You look freakING BEAUTIFUL!!! I find it impossible to choose a favourite here....I adore #2 - the floral sweater with the jogger pants - so cool yet pretty. But #1 is equally gorgeous and #3 is super flattering.

It seems like the rain is making you prettier!! Btw you look like you've lost some weight...or am I imagining it?

As Angie says - Killer Style All around!

Cu-ute! I really like the dress over pants :)

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

You do lol so sunny in the rain!

I love the florals, very fresh....but my favourite is the dress and leggings because i love the shape and textures in the outfit. It is 1980s but also modern, fun, comfy and stylish.

    Pow! Take that dreary weather!

Aida, you're naturally beautiful but, wow, do you ever know how to showcase your beauty with brilliant style choices. I love the concept of not just wearing uplifting colours in the rain, but also upping the ante with sunshiny florals. I'm in love with the navy and olive in pic 4. And your Firecracker original is just divine. I also have to call out that amazing white mac, so stunningly paired with the turquoise scarf. Fab all round! Thanks for sharing and reminding us that rain makes the flowers grow :)

In this fantastic set I especially noticed how well you use your shoes to add interest and contrast to your outfit. So the first outfit would be lacking structure without the points, the cream booties emphasize the pretty and the tall boots balance it. All three are brilliant but I think the middle one is my favorite. Although I do love the MBSh top in #3!

I love the details on all of these. I have that blue floral sweater, too, and find it plays well with lots of colors, especially olive.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Love  them all, Aida, but am very keen on the dress over pants looks at the moment-thanx for posting:-))

  • E replied 8 years ago

Oh I really love the first one; something about it reminds me of women wearing shirtwaists, off to their factory jobs. In the best possible sense! :)

The brights of the other outfits are perfect against the rainy backdrop too. And I enjoy seeing all of the details, as always!

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Lovely outfits for rainy weather.  I especially like the last outfit with the floral top.  So pretty with the the white jeans.  I love your olive pants and I'm tempted to look for something similar, but I'm pretty sure I can't pull those off the way you can.  I would like I'm wearing sweats, not fashionable joggers.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks for all the lovely responses! #3 was an interesting outfit for me. I feel like it doesn't move my style forward, yet also doesn't move it backwards -- it seems to just be a mainstay 70s look for me regardless of where my style is shifted within my crazy style matrix.

Karie, hard to put my finger on it. It makes me feel sour, too yellow or something. I think many navys have brown or gray mixed in and those are the ones I need to avoid. Very clear, very blue shades feel good. As does ink.

Sharan, I love white-based florals! I think I'll try the blouse under my orange sleeveless turtleneck, too :) I also felt the navy/olive outfit had a slightly different vibe, which I really liked. Need to figure out what it is.

Angie, *HUG* thank you for the long, insightful and very sweet comment. I do love the 60s (they're one of my main influential decades), it just doesn't seem to manifest often in my outfits. I am continually amused at how many same (and similar!) items we have... and how different we look wearing them.

Maneera, no weight loss since the start of the year, just don't often dress to show my figure :)

Sara, the heels are a must for me with the joggers! Otherwise I feel the same as you about "just sweats".

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

(My pleasure). And I'm giving you a '60s fashion challenge. Just for fun!

Isn' that GREAT, Aida. That's why I'm always sticking up for the "lemming concept" that gets a wrap over the knuckles on this forum. I love seeing my own items on you - and I love how differently we wear them. THAT's what personal style is all about.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

So fantastic!  I need to wear my floral sweater more often.  The first outfit reminds me of India - light airy cotton tunic over pants.  :)

Angie, does Lemmingitis have a bad rap here? It's one of my favorite things about YLF!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Angie, 60s challenge accepted! Will do it next week when I have some time to think on it.

Una, thank you ^^ I do feel like the Lemmingitis has a bit of a bad rap, and not just here but in general. Like you I also enjoy seeing how we all sport the same items in different ways. Angie commented to me this weekend that we should wear a head-to-toe same outfit for a meetup some time, just for fun :)

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

Knocking it out of the park, Aida! Each look is FAB! The floral tops are stunners:)
