WIW 10.07 [ensemble: casual layers & bling]

This morning's ensemble post for casual layers & bling is right up my alley, especially for weekend wear. My wardrobe is currently low on stripes as I've been a bit off them the past couple years in favor of more hectic prints, but was surprised to find that I could still pull a couple versions of the ensemble together. Primarily using striped tees which are reserved for ultra casual wear so it will definitely take a little extra dose of glam to feel fab with them, if at all. We'll see! I'll try those more casual renditions later this weekend, but for work today I thought it'd be fun to do a dressier version.

Balancing the light/dark, both in color and temperature, was a little tricky but I'm happy with how it turned out. After a storm last night it's somewhat sunny today, neither super cold nor super warm, so sheer black hose felt more appropriate than opaque. So then the tall black boots made everything feel overly dark -- until I added the ultra pale gray jacket (though didn't much wear without the jacket except briefly during lunch). Kept the bling tonal (black/white/gold necklace and charcoal crystal studs) and added a little pop of cheerful girly color with matte candy pink lipstick. For maximum glam chose my biggest sunnies and a very shiny metal clutch.

After work hubby and I headed to a hockey game so modified to more casual (and a little more in-line with the ensemble) with a team-colors plaid shirt and black accents. Looked a little more casual untucked but what can I say, I bat for Team Dressy ^^

I actually thought of you when I saw the formula and here you are rocking it :-) Both outfits are excellent, fun and pulled together. The attention you pay to every single detail is educational as always.

Love both outfits...you look fab! You look polished even in your casual outfits and really think your choices through....great how you were able to make a work appropriate outfit and more causal sports event outfit from the same ensemble ideas.

Very nice! My favorite is #1, I adore those bermuda shorts (I thought it was a skirt until I saw your Finds). The white background, dark wide plaid print mixed with the dark background, white striped top makes the outfit look fun and fabulous.

I like the shirt tucked in #2. I also bat for team dressy!

You look fantastic in both of the outfits. I love how you have worked the formula! So cool... I also think it is wonderful that you got two different outfits out of it.

What fabulous versions of the ensemble! I appreciate how you relate your thoughts such as sheer black stockings vs black tights. YLF

I love both of these so much and they are both also very Aida! Really like the combo of the stripes and large scale plaid in the first outfit.

I just got a very similar striped shirt so I am getting lots of ideas!

Great outfits! They're both extremely "you" yet in the spirit of the ensemble.

It's funny -- Sveta, this morning, before she left, wore a striped tee with a plaid shirt layered over it...it looked amazing on her!

I love reading how you "troubleshoot" your outfits! Great interpretations of the ensemble!

Love both versions and your own spin on the formula!  The shorts in #2 are so much fun and the green in #2 is very flattering.

Those shorts are so perfect for you! Always fun to see your outfits and your attention to detail.

I could just eat you up, Princess Adorable.

LOVE THE SHORTS. And wonderful rendition of the ensemble, LSS.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

They're both great! I love 1, though, because the shorts outfit is so perfect.

A Team Dressy spin on the ensemble, for sure. This is so very you...casual with polish!

These look so great! I love the outfits you put together and your confidence in your style. Always awesome and an inspiration!

Love the shorts outfit. How about the same with patterned tights? And the green shirt really suits you.

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

Both outfits are fabulous but I am partial to the white shorts with white moto liesure suit as I will call it! Stunning!

Aaahh! the shorts make their appearance! I love the outfit with them. They look so good with that jacket, and very cheeky with the striped tee and statement necklace. The plaid  version is also fantastic. Of course you needed to tuck the shirts!--those jeans are fabulous on you, and I like the belt with the boots.

Top notch! The shorts outfit is super special. I dream about doing shorts like this, but have yet to find the right pair for me.

Both outfits are fantastic on you.  The shorts outfit was made for you.  I love how you describe your process of putting it together.  I am on your Team.  I would tuck my shirt in too.

This is spectacular.  I wasn't convinced when I first saw Angie's post on Friday, but seeing it on real life women strikes me as amazing.  I'm going to try it myself today.

Fantastic. I really love the colors on the second outfit on you.

I really like your interpretation of the look! You look great in both iterations.
You balance light and dark masterfully!
And in reading your process, I think I had a little epiphany of my own: perhaps I'm Team Dressy too so that's why I didn't feel completely at home in the look. I should work on making that ensemble "more me" like you've done for yourself!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 7 years ago

I love that you came up with two interpretations, both so different. Another Team Dressy here, but I have to say i warmed up to the look I did of this.

  • Shirley replied 7 years ago

Super cute. I especially like the 2nd outfit since I am partial to color green.

So awesome you made a little capsule out of this! Love the sense of fun and the accesories that tweaked the glam factor up or down.
