A week of outfits from earlier this month; the weather was warm overall but starting to cool down. I am enjoying adding some black and richer colors back into rotation as we get into fall. Feeling chatty, feel free to skip ahead to the photos :)

  1. Monday, worn to run errands then off to work. After work went out for tacos with hubby and ran into friends there (fun!). Dusting the rust off my layering muscles; inspired by this outfit. Love how it turned out and I can already think of how to wear it again when the weather cools down (hint: with tall brown slouchy boots!).
  2. Tuesday, worn to run errands then off to work. Continuing to stretch my layering muscles with a blue/aqua version of a fuchsia/red outfit I wore back in April; I like the colors, but didn't like the bun (half up would have looked much better) and it felt awfully fussy. I don't know if it's because I've gotten used to simpler summer layers or if I'm actually not into heavy layering anymore.
  3. Wednesday, worn to work then to pick up dinner. I've been really loving all the white watches you gals have been wearing this summer, so after my recent conversion to Team Watch I went out and found my own :D Love the little bit of red peeking out under this top; the print has lots of great colors I can do this with, I totally want to try purple next (teal also worked really well).
  4. Thursday, worn to work. I wanted to try a variation of the outfit I wore to my friend's art show on 07.07. I really like how it turned out (the scarf thickness on the right is more accurate, it was windy out)! It felt really fall-ish so I added all white accessories to keep it summery since fall hadn't yet started. (Later realized the colors totally coordinate with the background of the photos, tee hee!)
  5. Friday, worn to work. Really love how this one turned out! I didn't wear muffler-tied silky scarves as much as I'd planned this summer, but I still want to so I'm hoping to pick up a couple more large square scarves. Also, I hadn't worn these black jeans in 3 months (!), it was a lovely reunion :)
  6. Saturday, worn out for dinner and drinks with hubby, sis, and a friend we haven't seen for a few years who's just moved back here. Lots of fun! We had just a few minutes notice, and I didn't have an outfit ready but I'm happy with how this turned out. Perfectly casual, comfy, and put-together for the occasion. Also remembered to snap a close-up of my new white watch.
  7. Sunday, worn out to lunch with my husband, and later my sister and folks stopped by to say hi, then my sister and her dog stayed to hang out.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

You were really into stripes this week! I especially love your stripey looks. I'm always drawn to the more graphical look.....

Here come my favourite tops from #3 and #7. Aida, don't hold you breath but I think 1, 4 and 5 are team POLISH outfits! Also, take it with a grain of salt since I'm but a beginner in style but the jeans in #3 a a little big/wrinkled/tired looking on you. The other pairs posted look far more sophisticated to my eye! Keep up the good work

Aida, great set of outfits as always :). I particularly like no. 6. A really classic but young and stylish look. Everything works beautifully together from the Jewellery to the shoes to your lovely watch. For an outfit put together at short notice you nailed it. Gorgeous.

As usual, so stylish. My absolute favorite on you: number 3. But also really like 5 & 6. I like how you use your hairstyle to complete the look. It always looks so easy, natural yet clean, complete. I also appreciate how you seem to choose items that bring you forth, so even though the outfit is stylish it is you we see first. This is a difficult thing to pull.

    Concretely:

Outfit 3: Many would be tempted to dress that neck with a necklace. You were wiser and dressed it only with peeping tank in a contrasting color, providing just that discreet but potent oomf to bring out your face.

Outfit 7: the pattern is busy yet it doesn't overwhelm you because 1) it complements your hair color 2) you chose minimalist accessories 3) the red bag gives the eye something to "bounce" back on.

Outfit 2: Funky! Fun! Yet I notice you wear blue, a color that complements your complexion, near your face. Lots going on in the bottom part: you balanced it with a necklace, but chose a low contrast necklace so again it's your face we see, not it.
    I'm learning, I'm learning!

I love your casual easy style! Such great inspiration. I especially love the tops in 3 and 7. Another fun week!

Another awesome week! I really love 1 and 5, and I think the olive silk J. Crew top looks fab! I wonder about wearing a black, white, or gray cardigan with 2--somehow the look is so graphic to me, then the two shades of blue sort of muddy that up, if that makes sense? Love the leggings with the booties!

I love all of these outfits! I don't think I can pick a fave. And I just got some gray ankle booties, so I've been wondering how to wear them. Outfit #2 has given me something to think about!

What a great week you've had Aida! It looks like you're slipping into fall beautifully.

You are so stylish and cool. #3 and 4 are really standing out with the color combos. Your proportions are getting so interesting. You have a style that is really your own. Very inspired!! I wish I could get by with those heel heights!

So great, especially your range of color and combinations of different styles. Your first outfit is giving me ideas about why my leopard boots with light olive cargos was not working - the colors you put together harmonize so much better. And I love how you change up your hair. FAB!

Love all of these. You are really branching out in your style. #3 really stands out to me and I really like the color combo in #4. So effortless and stylish!

  • replied 12 years ago

Love all of these, but #4 is really a standout...perfection!

  • Sara replied 12 years ago

All your outfits are really great. I really like #5 and #6. They are awesome.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

#4 is super cool! Love the colors and the men's tie effect with the scarf!

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

you are certainly queen creative and versatility. Goodness. I just LOVE the color combo of #4

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Hi Aida, I am loving all of these except maybe #1. I like them all so much, it's hard to pick a favorite because you look so good every day. #2 is so cute, spunky yet polished and kind of retro. I like the classic/French feel of #5 and #6. And I love #3, so 70s.

The reason I'm not as keen on #1 is the pants, whose wrinkles and folds distract me, but maybe I'm alone here. I like the color and silhouette on you, but with a different, less wrinkle prone fabric.

#1 - Love how those subdued colours work together, and the bronze bag really adds extra zing to the outfit.

#2 - I actually like how two shades of blue not-quite work together, yet not-quite clash; I find it to be eye-catching and unusual, in a good way. Also, the skirt pattern is very cute.

#3 - My personal favourite. A very clean, low-fuss, high impact look... simply great!

Thank you for the wonderful and insightful comments everyone! Interesting that this time around the yellow circle top is getting more love; I think it seems to work best when paired with bottoms that have more volume, like these baggy flares or my wide leg jeans. That or I've converted you all, mwahaha! 0;)

Sylvia, stripes are my favorite "pattern" :)

Anya, good eye! I think a lot of my outfits have been migrating over to the polish side, though I definitely still feel most comfortable when I have both polished and rough elements. Something for me to keep in mind!

Krishnidoux, thanks so much for the detailed analysis! All the points you brought up make so much sense to me as I read them, and some I didn't even realize I'm doing.

Jean, thank you! I think proportional play has become a key element to my personal style, along with color play.

Kim, yay thanks! I really enjoy remixing; buying new stuff is fun, too, but remixing has my heart :)
