WIW 06.06-12 (inc. interview & funeral outfits)

A week of outfits from the beginning of the month! It was a tough week, including my interview, finding out almost immediately that I didn't get the job, and then a funeral for the father of a very close friend.

  1. Worn to work, watch hockey, and out for tacos. I've been mulling over how to style this skirt not-too-sweetly, but am lacking skirt tops. I think this turned out quite well (the shoulders are studded); I also liked the lower waistline with this.
  2. Worn to work, prep for interview. New champagne pearls!
  3. Interview outfit. Was comfy and felt good in this, though this photo was taken quite late at the end of the day. After the interview, my husband and I went out to dinner then shopping with our friend for funeral attire; they wanted to be dressed to the nines, and I already had something to wear.
  4. Worn to work. Was glad to be wearing cheerful pants when told I didn't get the job. Hard to stay sad in red pants, right? ;)
  5. Funeral outfit. The service was down at the Tahoma National Cemetery (a veteran's cemetery), short, sweet, and had a great rifle salute; after that we spent a couple hours at the wake. The guys looked very sharp in their new duds (right).
  6. Worn to a friend's to catch up on some recorded TV.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

You look great as always, but I have to say the cut on that black dress in #5 is amazing on you! Such a great silhouette!

Aida, I'm sorry you had such a tough week, but wow your outfits are outstanding as always! I love your widow's peak when your hair is pulled back. Awesome red pants. And you and your husband make a beautiful pair for a sad occasion.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Wow! Every one of these is great! #1 continues to demonstrate your amazing way with neutral colors and fun shapes and textures -- I just love it!!

I'm so sorry the job didn't pan out -- I think your interview outfit was stellar.

And WOW! You look AMAZING in that black funeral outfit! And the guys look great, too! I'm sure the departed was honored!

Sounds like a very tough week indeed. But you took it in stride, and in style. How kind of you to help your friend shop.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

Yes, I'd say that's a rough week! So sorry about the job and your friend's father.

I agree that it's much harder to be gloomy in red jeans :). You look great all week. I love the striped vest with the olive in the last look, and the all-black look for the funeral is really gorgeous. I have to ask: is that picture taken at a different angle than your usual one? Just curious.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks ladies! Glad everyone likes my LBD; I don't wear it that often because it pretty much always requires a belt :) I must say that it's much easier to get through tough weeks when you know you can at least look great. Big thanks to YLF for helping with that ^^

Jonesy - Yep, different angle. I normally set the camera on a flat surface that's about waist height, and the funeral photo was taken by my husband probably around bust/collarbone height. You can see the difference if you compare that left photo to the middle-bottom one (or even the guys on the right which I guess I took at shoulder height, compared to my husband in the middle-top which is my usual angle).

I have to say your black dress is fabulous on you. I know that a funeral isn't the reason anyone wants to wear a LBD but good to have one for just those reasons. Reinforces why I want my wedding attendee, job search, and funeral capsules covered. I also love #3! Perfect shot of color without looking . . . is trite the word I'm searching for?

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

Sorry to hear about the job, it's their loss.
#1-Cute skirt, how does it look remixed with the blazer in #3 and a white tank? Or a denim button down shirt tucked in?
#2-One of my favorite ways to layer when it's getting cool, I will be sure to copy this one.
    #3-Fun touches of red here.
#4-I agree, red pants just make a person smile.
#5-I think this dress is the best one I've seen yet on you, just super duper fab.
#6-Fun layering with the stripes. You can wear this with the red pants for 4th of July if you want to be a tad patriotic in the colors.

Number 5 is stunning. Just look at that waistline. Number 6 is really nice on you, too.

  • qfbrenda replied 12 years ago

I like all of those! All of you look great for the funeral. Sorry for the hard week. :(

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I really love 3, 4, 5, and 6 (not that I dislike the others, but love those especially)! You rock red and white like nobody's business.

I'm sorry to hear that the job didn't pan out, but hopefully this means that you are just destined for something better. I mean, if the place didn't like *you* then how great could they really be, eh?

Your entire group looks fab in #5 - dressed to the nines for sure. I find it very touching that the boys wanted to look their best to honor the departed's memory, and it was wonderful for you to use your shopping skills for the greater good..

  • Girl X replied 12 years ago

Stress/anxiety, disappointment, and mourning? Tough is an understatement - and you managed to look awesome anyway.

That's disappointing about the job, but still so exciting to even be interviewed.

*You go out for tacos a lot!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Aida, you had an amazing week style-wise. Sorry it wasn't the same in other ways. Your husband is a serious cutie! And you need to wear that LBD more often - you look so sophisticated and lovely.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

I'm sorry to hear about your tough week, Aida. Rest assured that you look killer in every outfit.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the lovely comments ladies :D

Lisa - Ooh I like your styling ideas for the floral skirt, I'll try one this week if it warms up at all!

Rae - We were happy to help our friend find a good looking outfit (my hubby in particular has become quite savvy on what looks stylish, classic, and current for men's stuff; check out our friend's spiffy shoes that he picked!), and his mom was happy to see him dressed up even though the occasion was sad; I'm sure his dad would have approved.

Girl X - On Mondays one of our local Mexican restaurants has tacos and beer for $1 each so most weeks we're there for "Taco Monday", half the time with a bunch of friends :)

Una - I think he's a cutie too ^^ I've only worn my LBD a handful of times, but I will try a dressed-down outfit with it soon!

Angie - Thank you! Not being stressed about putting together good outfits was a huge help that week, so thanks for all your and YLF's help with that <3

  • Marley replied 12 years ago

First off - it was their loss that you didn't get that job! What a shame! I'm so sorry Aida! As far as your week of fashion goes - a stellar week. I can't help but say I love that LBD - so flattering on you! Love the red jeans, the interview outfit - ALL of them! You look so good! And hubby is quite the handsome dude!

  • Aunty replied 12 years ago

Aida I am so sorry you had such a rough week. Rest assured you looked amazing in every single outfit, but that LBD on you is just so gorgeous!!

PS I think we are shoe twins in 1, I am gobsmacked!!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

    Thank you Marley and Aunty!

Marley - Have you been wearing your red jeans much? I loved all the looks you posted with your cobalt pair :D

Aunty - How fun! I shall think of you whenever I wear them ^^

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Aida, I'm sending my condolences for your friend (and you) and I'm so sorry it was a rough beginning this month.

I must say that you look STUNNING in a skirt/dress. That needs to work more into your style. You look incredible despite the sorrow.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thank you Heather! I thought of you when I pulled this skirt out, you had some great suggestions for it. All of which I still need to try. Except for the draped piece ;)

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

You looked great this week, inspite of everything...Love #3 and you looked amazing for the funeral. The right job will come...trust me!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 12 years ago

I like to believe that there is always something really great around the corner so if I don't get the job I wanted, I usually feel confident that another one that is even better will be coming soon. I am sure it will be the same for you.

I love the way you put together outfits that have casual pieces but look so together. I particularly like 1. 2 and 3 but the LBD is very nice on you too.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thank you Carole and Dianthus! :D

  • san replied 12 years ago

Everything has been said just as I was going to say. You look beautiful everyday. Your interview outfit is great. You wear a pair of heels with skinnies like nobody's business.
My condolences for your friends father. You all showed up with great respect for him. You look amazing in your LBD and the patent heels are such a dressy and classy touch, as compared to regular leather heels.
You and your hubby are an amazingly beautiful couple.
You both have helped your friend look so handsome at the funeral.

  • Nadya replied 12 years ago

Great outfits, all! Now I want a striped vest. And tacos and beer.

Bummer about the job, but as others have said it just means there's a better fit waiting for you somewhere else.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks very much San and Nadya!

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

    Yum, Aida's post. Let's see.

Firstly, sorry to hear about the job but I'm sure you'll take a lot form the experience.

    1. Wow, you did fantastic job with this skirt, it really is potentially too sweet if one's not careful. The color of the top is almost masculine (I have no idea why that adjective came to mind, but here it is) and it really is perfect antidote for the skirt. Not even the pearl makes it saccharine at all. You are skillful!
    2. Ok, I think you've just given me the incentive to revisit the black top I almost ditched - I love everything and the pearls are just fantastic. Eeerrr, one for me please.
    3. Super. I love the red kicks for the confidence boosts on the day, but not too much 'in your face" to make your style dominating your personality/professional persona. I actually always try to have something red on my interviews for this very reason.
    4. Can't be sad in red, true. Gorgeous necklace.
    5. Grey pearls too?? I want. You look fab!
    6. Adorable and cheerful outfit. Blue and green - I'll fall for this any time. This one made me a bit sentimental, with all the talk about your job application and going to your friends to catch up on TV stuff, I remembered the summer when I graduated and we all later went our separate ways, one guy actually to MS in Seattle... but that summer was brilliant, happy hours at pizza place after the F1 races (that was our thing) and then movie marathons or playing Risk till late at night... thanks for bringing back happy memories.
