WIW 06.13-19

A week of outfits from a few weeks ago (gah, getting so behind on photos). Skipped 06.17 as I posted about it here; it goes between images #4 and #5.

  1. Worn to work. Was in the mood to colorblock, but lack items to do so. So I went with a neutral base outfit and paired a bright cardi and necklace. New cuff.
  2. Worn to work then out for Type Tuesday (monthly gathering of local folks who work with type). Still in the mood for brights! The debut of the awesome top sent to me by MaryK :D I really loved how the faded denim works with the orange+white. This necklace was an amusing topic of conversation at the pub, with its over-the-top layers ^^
  3. Worn to work, then to watch hockey (not-so-subtly wearing Vancouver's colors, but.. they didn't feel like playing apparently :p). These great nude fishnets were also gifted by MaryK; the netting on these is larger than my other pair so I'm happy to have both sizes now. Feeling more comfortable styling my denim jacket these days, and I'm kind of wanting to get a really light wash one.
  4. Worn to work. I like this muted palette for summer, though I don't have a lot in these colors.
  5. Worn to lunch and shop for father's day gifts with my husband.
  6. Father's day outfit. Worn to breakfast with my in-laws, then to my folks' for a late lunch. I tried several outfits (too cold for a dress, my last attempt before this got the comment "your first grade class will like it"...) before giving up and just wearing this. Not awesome but not terrible. I'm really feeling the need to get more clothes that fit me ><

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Aida, your style is just getting better and more distinct/recognizably "you" all the time.

I especially am enamored of the dress (#3) and the outfit with the purple cardi (#1.)

I don't see #6 as a mediocre outfit at all. It's a bit simpler than your usual in the sense that there are less visible layers - but that doesn't mean it is boring by any means. I especially think the patter mixing of the scarf on shirt is pretty daring and works very well.

    You look ab fab, Aida!

    #1 and #3 are KILLER!

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

Great week. Just because it's on my mind I'd love to see the red sneakers in #5 with the gingham shirt in #6 in a future outfit. Might be fun.

I am loving the direction your style journey is taking ;-) These outfits are so *you* and so fab!

#1 has a simple elegance yet it is nicely casual. #2 is a great color on you and perfect to wear with white and denim. Love #3 dres with the belt, boots, and jacket. I also love the fit on you of the shirt in #6 - and Lisa's red tennis suggestion!

Aida, your outfits just keep getting better all the time. What a fantastic week!

GAH. #2 is so. freakin'. awesome. If you were selling that outfit, I'd be buying it. Just when I think I have enough jackets, I suddenly *need* a white one and a denim one...

Great looks! I'm digging your colorful looks in 1 and 2. Where did you get that tiny fit white blazer?!

  • yellowgirl replied 13 years ago

An amazing week of outfits - I'm especially loving #1 & 2! Fab!

SUCH a fan of your style...of course the hair away from your face is so pretty !

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

SO FAB!! LOVE the red top! And SO HAPPY the nude fishnets worked for you!! *clapping hands and jumping up and down for joy*

And the colors in #1 are so. fun.

You really do rock jeans. My jeans outfits always feel a bit samey but it was only after I scrolled through all the pics and saw the thumbnails on the post that I realised all but 1 was jeans, they all have such a different feel x

You look so fab, I especially love #1, #2 and #3! I really like the way you styled that dress and the color combinations in the first two.

You look fab. I especially love #2 and #4. I love the idea of the plaid dress, but I wonder if it's getting a touch too big on you ;)?

You look so awesome this week. Love the shoes in #5, they really make the outfit pop.

  • Heather replied 13 years ago

Aida, I clapped for outfit 2!!! *bravo*

And the plaid dress---love, love, love that on you.

Also, you brilliantly remixed your little boat shoes. Well done, Aida.

I love love love outfits 3 & 4! You have super style and I am envious of your hair.

I think the pants in outfit 2 a a tiny bit too long, but overall it's a great casual look.

    Keep it up, kid.

So cute Aida! I'm with Angie, I really love #1 and #3 but all of them look fabulous!

Thank you all for the wonderful comments everyone :D I'm especially happy you gals feel my style is moving the right direction for me, because I feel that too! Slowly but surely.

Lisa - Great idea, I will certainly pair the red tennies and the gingham shirt in a future outfit.

Rae - I must admit I bought both the white and denim jackets because I saw outfits that made me say "my goodness I NEED one of those!" (And fully don't regret it!) I think you could totally work a white jacket, would be especially handy to give darker outfits an instant summery lift. *enable*

Rita - This white blazer is from H&M back in May (not sure if they still have it); I sized up so it'd have a sort-of-boyfriend vibe, though it does have fitted shaping. I think it's supposed to be a semi-cropped style, but on short me it's the perfect length :)

Mary - I was delighted at how fun the colors in #1 turned out as well! I am formally submitting my request for a white+coral+royal purple+gold MaryK look :D

Louise - This is something I battle with constantly. I make sure to treat jeans as an integral part of my outfits and pair them deliberately when putting together outfits, just like I would a skirt or layering tops; this shift of thought has made a huge difference in reducing the sameness of my outfits. After that, I started to vary the cuts, washes and colors which has helped a LOT; I don't think I have any duplicate pairs using those 3 elements and I have quite a few pairs of jeans ;)

Jonesy - Yes, the plaid dress is certainly too big; I could probably take it in 4" on both sides 0:)

These are some of my all time favorites of yours! #1 is my absolute favorite, and that necklace in #2 is stunning!

  • Debora replied 13 years ago

All are fabulous but I am especially taken with outfit #1! The colors are so gorgeous on you and I love the purple cardigan paired with the neutral bottoms. Love the red top - our MaryK is awesome! I also love the dress and you look so pretty in the soft colors of outfit #4. This is just a stellar week for you!

  • bella replied 13 years ago

You look great Aida! I just got a pair of gray skinnies and I will be watching your threads closely for inspiration. I will probably wait until fall though. It is too hot here to wear jeans for now.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thank you very much ladies!

Bella - I have two pairs of gray skinnies, I like 'em so much (#1 and #5) :) I've found for spring/summer dressing I can use them anywhere I would wear my black ones to lighten up a look. In cooler weather I love pairing with dark tops and dark shoes. Looking forward to seeing how you style yours when it cools down for you! I can see them working really well with your style.
