WIW 05.20 [inspired by Anna's orange+plaid]

Last week Anna posted a fabulous outfit featuring orange and plaid. There are so many details about Anna's outfit that grab me: the contrast between the cool moto and the strict buttoned-to-the-top shirt, how the bright orange and dark black look with the faded/distressed denim and white shoes, matching bright oranges for lipstick and jacket, a vertical line of white from sunnies to belt to shoes, the structured black handbag that picks up on the structure of the plaid shirt even though all the other accents are bright or white.

Even though I don't have the exact pieces in these colorways, I do have plenty of orange, white, black, plaid, and denim in my wardrobe. In fact, I came up with 4 outfits inspired by Anna's but only two felt properly in the spirit of hers. One I am filing away for fall, and the other I am wearing today since it's projected to be the coolest day of the week (yay!). Obviously the types of pieces I used differ, but I was able to get in nearly all the key elements that I was drawn to in Anna's look down to the matching orange lips. The two major differing points: less sassy footwear which I compensated for with sassy hair, and no structured black bag because I do not have one! Bonus fun that this inspired me to pull out my rarely worn white sunnies, which I enjoyed wearing today.

I don't know that I'd have thought to put these pieces together in this way, but I love how it turned out. Thanks for being such great inspiration, Anna :D

Very nice! I like how you took Anna's fabulous outfit and made it into your own fabulous outfit. The jacket, plaid shirt, and jeans look perfect with the white accents of your sunnies, belt, and shoes. Well done!

You are a delight Aida. First I get to read your analytical description of why Anna's outfit worked so well (agree, agree) and then your own thought process in coming up with your outfit, and then your gorgeous pictures of gorgeous you. I love that blouse!

WOW! I'm hugely flattered. Thanks for the break down of my outfit. Funny thing is though I am analytical at work, I'm purely emotional and gut feeling in my outfits.
    Love your take on it.
NARS Timanafaya Park is great bright orange lip BTW.

Gah!  This is beyond fab!  And this member of Team Riveting Rearsiders is giving the rear view a standing ovation!!

YLF copycats (or inspiration) posts are some of my favorites!  I missed Anna's original, so I'm so glad to see it now -- love the crisp white shoes.

Your version is full of the same energy and fun!

Could you be any cuter, Aida?

You've done yourself and Anna proud. I love it all. Fabulous!

Thanks for the lovely comments, ladies! I had a lot of fun channeling Anna for a day ^^

Anna, yay I'm glad you caught this! I very much appreciate your emotional and gut-feeling dressing :) I've gotten to where I'm mostly post-analytical about my own dressing, but I always love a good outfit break down! Thanks for the lippie rec, is that the one you were wearing? The swatches I see online are really gorgeous. I'll have to try that next time I'm near Sephora, it looks like a good warm orange though it might be a bit too opaque for me.

Mary, as a fellow member of Team RR I was surprised with these BF jeans! I think that's about as good a rear view as I'm going to get with slouchy, extra faded, thick, non-stretchy denim ;)

Andrea, well hello neighbor! So nice to see you ^^

You nailed it, Aida. There is something quite '80s about your version. As Mary would say - Big Fun. xo

Thank you for sharing this. So fab, from start to finish!

  • Niefern replied 9 years ago

    I want that jacket!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Oh, I love this! Both Anna's and your version. When I get back to my closet, I'm inspired to try something like this with my orange blazer. Thank you for posting your Anna inspired outfit and thoughts.

Gorgeous outfit, Aida! Your analysis skilz are amazing. I'm pretty sure that I couldn't analyze myself out of a paper sack. You look sporty and retro and very Aida, to me. How's that for analysis. I love it.

I'm sorry I say the every time you post a WIW, but I really love these. You always look so put together, relaxed and confident. Perfect!

OMG, I'm in love! That outfit! You look fantastic. :)

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Gosh, they are similar. I did a back-and-forth thing. Down to the white sunnies. They do read very differently though. That's interesting to me.

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

One of the things I love about YLF is that we get so inspired by each other yet we put our own signature in the inspired outfit! Love the way you interpreted the look! I can see the influence from Anna's outfit bug it's still very you!

  • fuzzylogic replied 9 years ago

Agree with MsKatieKat above- similar elements, different look! Bravo!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you for all the comments!

Angie, yes I noticed that as well. Lots of little things contribute, but probably the jeans most of all? These sun-bleached BFs seem to kinda give a little 80s/mom-jean vibe without actually being high-waisted.

Joy, how fun! I look forward to seeing your version.

Kelly, sounds like a good analysis to me :D

Rachy, I think they'd read differently even if I were wearing exactly the same pieces as Anna. Different auras and whatnot. Probably my hair gives it a pretty different feel, too.
