WIW 05.12 (hiking), 13 (mother's day)

A couple recent weekend outfits!

#1 - Saturday: Hubby and I went for our first hike of the season, so this is super casual and includes some gear :) I wanted to come up with an outfit that would work for the hike itself as well as look somewhat decent for eating breakfast out at a diner beforehand, which proved a bit challenging (it was quite warm this day). The outfit on the left is what I wore "out", and on the right for the hike I simply swapped the jacket for a sweatshirt and the flats for tennies.

#2-4 - A few photos from the hike (Bridal Veil Falls), it was very pretty!

#5 - Sunday: What I wore for mother's day. First up was brunch with my husband's extended family, which I wanted to be dressed nicely for even though it was casual. This fabulous purple sheath and cropped little denim jacket are both gems from the Seattle swap (thanks so much to whomever brought them, love 'em both!!). Afterwards we had planned to picnic and then help my mom with a gardening project, so I changed into gardening gear (re-wore the outfits in #1). But all of the nearby parks were ridiculously busy so instead we had the picnic at my house on the patio (the space on the right side of my outfit photos ^^); then my mom decided to postpone the gardening so I changed BACK into the sheath outfit to go to my folks' and eat cake!

What a stunning locale for a hike Aida! I can almost smell the woods from here...

I can't believe how perfectly that purple sheath and jacket fit you and how great they go together! This is a fantastic outfit!

Wow, you took some spectacular photos, Aida! First let me say kudos for having ballet flats and a cute jacket to have breakfast in a restaurant! That is a fab little outfit that transformed magically into hiking gear! The photos from your expedition are just amazing and I love all the green. DH is quite the long jumper! The sheath from the swap is so perfect with the denim jacket! They both fit like they were made for you. I'm sure both moms were proud to have you on Mother's Day!

Did you go up to Lake Serene? Last time I was there last year there was snow on the last half mile of the trail and the far side of the lake was having avalanches. Gah! I miss hiking.

    Great outfits BTW.

    Thanks Shannon, Claire, and Anna!

Shannon, I couldn't believe it either! There was a story about it in the blog post hehe ^^

Claire, I was totally stumped about how to work the outfit both ways until I thought about what I do when I wear motorcycle gear: change shoes, change jacket, put hair up. Small changes, but they really help me feel more put together when I'm in mostly gear. EDIT: And yes, hubby is quite the jumper. He competed the long jump in track, way back in the day. I did get a minor scolding for not crouching down to make it look even higher ;)

Anna, we didn't get all the way up to the lake because we got there a bit too late in the day but we're hoping to make it up there soon! Luckily there wasn't any snow, at least not on the lower part of the trail, but it sure was PACKED.

Gorgeous scenery and fab outfits. You look great, Aida.

Great outfits, Aida. That dress and denim jacket are just perfect on you, and you make faded denim bermudas look so effortlessly chic!

And your pictures of your hike (and your athletic guy) are gorgeous. I have done that hike several times and I love it! I think I'll make a plan to take our visiting international student to Bridal Veil Falls sometime before the falls dry to a trickle.

great photos. Love that purple sheath on you. The color is all kinds of divine with your skin tone.

Those photos of Bridal Veil Falls are stunning! Clever you on making the outfit work for breakfast out and then the hike. Truly love that purple dress on you - made even better with the denim jacket and blue heels! (since I have denim jackets on the brain...can I ask which one this is?)

Your mother's day outfit is really pretty. I like the denim jacket and the bright shoes with the lovely dress. I hope your family appreciated the effort.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

Chrizzle, there's a pretty good amount of water in the falls right now, and I'm sure your international student would enjoy the hike! It was a bit overly humid the day we went, but if you went on a cooler day it should be lovely.

Christy, I got this denim jacket at the swap a couple weeks ago so I am guessing it's not from this season, but it's by Lucky if that helps.

Aren't you a gorgeous hiker! Perfect swapping out strategy. Love the action shot of hubs too :)

KILLER Mother's Day outfit. Love the thrifted dress with the blue pumps. Nice to see these in action! So pinned :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Angie! I felt very elegant in my mother's day outfit, which is not a feeling I usually have :) Hubby _almost_ liked that one, if not for the denim jacket. My sporty gear is miles ahead of where it was a couple years ago, it's been an interesting challenge to try and get those types of outfits working for both form and function. (David is usually too fast for me to get good action shots of, I was excited to get the jump!)

Aida your mother's day outfit is one of my favorites ever. Simply gorgeous. Love the blue shoes. You look a cut above any other hiker. And the mountains and scenery are beautiful. I spent a couple of summers in Seattle and the mountains so close to the city are spectacular. Thanks for the reminder.

Gorgeous scenic pics! I lived in Washington when I was younger and have fond memories of camping and clam digging.

Great idea to swap toppers and shoes in #1. I'm going to remember that when I have a day full of different activities!

LUV the denim jacket and sheath combo! It fits you beautifully! Where did the blue shoes come from?

    beautiful shots and lovely outfits

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Awesome casual-gear transition. I'm smiling at your hike (I love to hike).

You look gorgeous for Mom's Day.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Wow, this post is really a treat for the eyes, and the scenery shots aren't too bad either (ba dum dum!). I love your switcheroo outfit (jacket --> sweatshirt), and your scores from the swap are amazing on you! Perfect for your style and perfect fits!

  • Isis replied 11 years ago

Love the action shot of husband jumping! And the scenery! You live in a beautiful place!

And, your Mother's Day outfit is incredible! The purple sheath looks like it was made for you....Beautiful color and fit, great with the denim jacket. The shoes are the perfect touch!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you ALL for the wonderful comments! :D

Shevia and AJ, I didn't know you both spent time here in the PNW! The scenery around here is indeed spectacular. I live quite near the Cascade mountains, and am lucky to enjoy some great sweeping views of them along with pretty forest and the Sound daily as I leave for and come home from work.

AJ, the blue heels are these here by Halogen; it looks like they're not available at the moment, but the reviews were pretty good so hopefully they'll do another round of them because I would snatch up another color in a heartbeat!
