WIW 02.10 Sartorialist challenge

Well I put it off long enough! To my surprise I had a really hard time with this. For all of the images I clipped to try, my limited closet lacked the one item that really made the look (e.g. slouchy trousers, hiking boots, long heavy knit scarf etc.). I kept coming back to this black look which was the one that immediately called to me (#1), but since my loafers have heels I feel it really changes the vibe of the look (#2).

I wanted an outfit I would wear all day but unfortunately it was freezing this morning (literally), and I just had to change into a version with socks (#3, what I am actually wearing today). To keep one brown element I added my cropped vest and swapped to socks+flats in spirit of menswear. I may give this another try when it's at least 50F :)

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

This is an outfit I adored - and you have done it so perfectly! It is fun to see you in something a bit out of your usual, but still well within the "Aida" range. You look fantastic and I think you should wear more of this style vibe. I like your shoes too, although they lend a different feel.

I think I am going to attempt it too! I even have the right shoes.

Photo #2 is just beautiful! I love the brown vest in photo #3! I might have gone with brown socks instead of white, but overall I really like it!

And you TOTALLY nailed the Sart 'tude!!

    Photo #2 is KILLER. love!!!

I love your interpretation in #2, and your pose is awesome :).

    Thanks ladies!

Una - I have no doubt you could do this look and I am really looking forward to seeing it! I'll definitely try another look like this, it's a good sort-of-dressy-sort-of-not vibe that I think could fit in with my style :)

Mary - I only have a handful of brown socks and they were all in the laundry hamper! I'd have worn fleshy colored ones if I had them but the best I could do was the cream. I need to update my solid color sock collection (most of mine are fun colors/patterns).

Angie - Woo, a Killer! Guess that Sart guy knows who to take photos of ;)

Jonesy - I had to test model it in the mirror a while before taking the photo hehe

I love the picture of you in the second photo. I do think the heeled loafers work.

  • Joy replied 13 years ago

Wow, I'm so impressed with your interpretation in #2.

  • Carole replied 13 years ago

    Great interpretation! Well done!

Aida! You came out to play with us "Sart Girls!" Yeah! I LOVE your interpretation. (So funny, I also clipped this pic as one of my favorites and one that I would like to try to interpret sometime!) Pic#2 is perfecto! You nailed this - and your 'tude is priceless! I love everything about this on you! Also, really like what you did in #3 by incorporating the brown with your vest. Very creative and fun. Thanks for playing!

What do you think the shirt is under the blazer? This outfit was the reason I loved this ASOS blazer/cape:

I couldn't load the whole of pic 2 but from the thumbnail it looks like a great look on you and like it has been perfectly styled. Like others said it's a good look on you that you should continue with. When wearing socks, I think the look would work with oxfords as well (with or without heels), oxfords and loafers being sort of similarly mens-wear inspired to me.

I always enjoy your outfit posts Aida and this is no exception.

he, he, Aida, I love it with the loafers.....bet you would love to have an Eiffel Tower on hand to snap in front of???

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks ladies, I appreciate all the great feedback! So glad everyone likes the heeled loafers, I almost didn't take the photo because I was sure they didn't work. Good thing I took it anyway :)

Marley - It was fun once I finally tried the outfit on hehe. I think I'll try another this coming week!

Una - Interesting blazer/cape! I've never seen one like that before. I'm not 100% sure about what she's wearing under the jacket, but to me it looks like a low v-neck fine knit sweater. I also see she has a ribbon type thingie around her neck, my first thought was an ID badge but maybe a pendant on a black ribbon?

Coco - I had my cognac heeled oxfords on initially, but they felt too girly (and high contrast) looking so I switched to the loafers. I do need to pick up a pair of flat oxfords for looks like this though!

Lynne - I have some really big trees, that's sorta close right? ;)

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

Or how about the Space Needle! ;-)

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Great version, Aida! You captured it beautifully and made it your own. It's a different look on you but I really like it!

Mary - Hah, I suppose I could! I forgot about that, not in Seattle much these days. Maybe I'll have my hubby snap a Sart style outfit photo for me this Sunday, we'll be down on the waterfront in Seattle (annual v-day aquarium trip!).

Kelly - Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I want to try and work in some of this sort-of-dressy-sort-of-not vibe into my style!

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Aida, that's a great way of putting it! This look really suits you. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do it--so I can copy LOL!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Kelly, I think I need to analyze the style a bit because I will have to make some new purchases! I'll let you know what I find :)

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

    Analyze away! I'll be waiting : )

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

I like your remix, the heels jazz this up for me.
