WIW 01.28-02.05

Hi everyone! After my very colorful week, I was back to my usual primarily-neutrals ways; it was coincidentally almost enough for MaryK's neutrals challenge, though I'm actually doing it this week along with everyone. I was quite happy with this week, and am getting back to wearing my jackets and toppers. (I know I don't usually post so many at once, but I wore a lot of clothes last week ;) )

  1. 28th Saturday: worn out to breakfast. This beautiful necklace is from our dear Sona!
  2. 30th Monday: worn to work & out for dinner. A rare day with all browns.
  3. 31st Tuesday: worn to work & help my sis with homework. I know this almost-cropped length jacket that hits at the top of non-high pants isn't everyone's cuppa, but I like it, especially with the big belt buckle ^^
  4. 1st Wednesday: worn to work. After all the black yesterday, I went for zero black this day (not counting outerwear, I guess).
  5. 2nd Thursday: worn to work & out for dinner. My "bad legs day turned good legs day" outfit. Love how it turned out!
  6. 3rd Friday: worn to work & date night dinner. Inspired by an outfit of Jessica's from "What I Wore". I think this is a really fun silhouette (the scarf only came off while eating!).
  7. 4th Saturday: worn out to dinner after a day of gardening. An outfit full of items not worn much recently.
  8. 5th Sunday: worn out to breakfast & back home to watch the Super Bowl. Something somewhat sporty with loosely football-themed colors.

Aida, may I officially go on record to say "I love you." My heart is going pitter-patter over all of these and #2, yes the brown outfit with the orange scarf, is a big WOW! for me. You have such phenomenal style in every one of these and what I really love is the way you share where you go in these outfits.

It feels so personal and makes "me" feel connected to the scene and where you've been. I don't have any critiques, although I know a good critic shares both good and bad, but in IMHO, there is no bad and only good! I love it all, Aida. This makes me miss your company.

You have the "effortless" casual thing totally nailed!

    I particularly love 1 and 2.

  • qfbrenda replied 12 years ago

Great week! I especially love your jackets. I need that first one in a different color... maybe gray. And stripes! Love stripes!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

I love all of these. My favorites are 1,3 and 5. I am loving all of your stripes and cool jackets.

Fantastic! Love that teal jacket! What is it? Is it still available?? (I am still mourning my beloved teal jacket, which finally got too big!)

No. 6 is totally rocking my world, too! Big fun!!

  • ironkurtin replied 12 years ago

I never thought I'd like cropped jackets until I saw these on you! A great lineup. I could never pull some of those off!

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

Love them all!! That teal jacket in 8 is killing me!! Is that the same jacket QM is modeling today?

Your style is OFF THE CHARTS Aida! Every outfit you put together looks so effortless, in the best sense of the word. It's like you just threw this thing on and it all works together so beautifully. I honestly would not be able to pick a favourite out of this grouping because each outfit offers something unique.

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

These are super outfits. I love the jacket in #1 and #2 and 7 are also favorites.

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

You look so flippin' fab in all of these, Aida! My faves are 2, 6 and 7. The colors in 2 are gorgeous--cream, grey, brown and orange. It's light and lovely with an edge! Love the bootcuts with the tunic in 6--I've really been loving this look. You totally nailed it. The long lean line of 7 is pretty fab too. I love the slightly masculine vibe of the bf cardi and the oxfords. Of course, these are the ones that make my heart go pitter patter. Everyone of them is a knock out. I'm jealous that you and Kim are jacket twins. I love that jacket on you too!

Great week. Love #6 and #8.

You are so cute and your style is so fun. I have met you in person and I was taken with your sweet smile!

What a fantastic week, Aida! We are jacket twins too! I have the greenie in #1. It looks amazing on you. I LOVE the scarf in #2. where is it from? And I will most certainly be stealing look #7. Can't wait to do it too!

    Always love your posts...

    You're KILLING me.

i can't stop staring at outfits 1 and 3! That W&C jacket with the pattern mix is so amazing. And the cropped jacket in 3 is stealing my brain cells wiith its fabness - I am so in love with it! All your looks are lovely. Those two are just SUBLIME.

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 12 years ago

Hey, I have that scarf in 8!

The thing that I really like about your style these days is that it feels so you, and so effortless - not fussy at all (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just feels less studied, if that makes any sense). It's current without feeling like a lot of fuss.

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

I love how you are integrating cropped jackets into all of your looks, very instructive for me. I am trying to be more open-minded about cropped jackets, as I'm pretty much stuck on long jackets for the time being. My favorites are #1 and #2, I really like those brown boots on you and the outfits you're wearing. Their proportions are perfect on you.

I also like 6-7-8 the bootcut outfits, you've pulled off layering really nicely in #8.

    Now for the suggestions box:
What about a finer kind of stocking in #5 (less flannel-y or fuzzy) to match the refined footwear, jacket and overall feel of the outfit? Although probably a more predictable, less edgy style direction. I guess tights+shorts are already kind of edgy and youthful to me.

Your grey jeans and grey vest idea is super cute, have you tried a woven shirt in a more muted tone as an additional outfit idea?

  • Aunty replied 12 years ago

You are totaly rockin your style, there is not a thing there that is not off the scale with fabness :)

  • lyn67 replied 12 years ago

Lots of stripes here! I esp love 1,2,6 and 8! Nr 2 is a great ex. on the power of a bright scarf! love pattern mixing in 6 and the bright tuquoise jacket in the last one, too-so fresh! great week!!

  • Fruitful replied 12 years ago

Had to look after reading about turning around xyz. The shorts outfit is so cute I can't stand it. I really love 3. But I can't decide. You are looking both poised and playful in all of these and I couldn't ask for anything more.

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

These are all really nice, but #1 is one of my all time favorites. Fab jacket and love all the elements of the outfit. Your great legs day is superb.

  • Sona replied 12 years ago

the bebe and I saw this together this morning. We concluded that 1,3, 5 and 8 were our favorites. She said it perfectly " Mom this girl really knows how to STYLE. You know like she's a REAL LIFE fashionista" Out of the mouth of a little six year old who already loves j crew ( kids line)!

You rock your individual style awesomely.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Wow, you've got killer style! And my favorite is actually #5! Way to go with the bad day into spectacular day! I love 1, 2, 3 and 8 too!

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

These are all so so fab Aida! Of course I'm biased to the last one cuz you're my jacket twin, but I also love how you styled the striped dress. And I love the rest just as much! I really enjoy how you have such a variety of silhouettes. Your weeks are never a repeat of the same formula day after day. Everything is fresh and new and keeps me wondering what you might come up with next!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

Gorgeousness, Aida! I have missed your WIW posts. I can't pick a favorite--I love how you try out different silhouettes (e.g., the long sweater tunic over the bootcuts, the shorts with tights/boots) and your texture and pattern mixing is TDF. And your accessorizing is so wonderful--there is always something interesting about your outfits. Very elevated casual chic!

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

I saw #1 from the home page and loved it at first sight. Opened it up to find you are a jacket twin lol, no wonder I loved it! Being a fan of cropped jackets myself, I love this whole lot!! There is definitely an air of effortless stylishness about all of these. Good to see some WIW's from you!

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

What a great week! #1 and 2 are my favorites plus the sweet blue jacket in the last photo. All very inspiring.

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

Great week, Aida. #1 is so yummy I just want to eat it UP!!!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

WOW ladies, thank you all so much for the wonderful comments!! You've all made my day ^^ I'm intrigued by so many mentions of my jackets being "cropped", since I had thought all of these were just normal jacket lengths neither long nor cropped (but it seems that's incorrect). I'm going to start another thread about this! (Please forgive the upcoming novel, I replied to a couple of you in multiple sections hehe)

Vicki, thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3

Brenda, Jem, and lyn67, I didn't even realize how stripey this last week was until you all mentioned it! I guess I've got spring on my mind :)

Mary and Rita, the turquoise blazer is from H&M (and yes, the same one Kim just got; AJ also has it in black). I saw it while in LA in Oct., wasn't sure about the fit, didn't purchase, couldn't get it out of my mind, then saw it again in early Dec. during the Seattle YLF meetup and with Angie's approval on the fit happily bought it (to wear as a spring jacket since it's not full sleeve length). I've no idea if it's still available, but since Kim just bought one perhaps there are a few around? If it came in other colors I would scoop 'em right up!

Shevia, Kelly, and Andrea, I'm really happy to hear that you gals liked #7 particularly. I wasn't too thrilled with it but I think it's that those jeans desperately need altering and I just can't see past that. Andrea I hope you post your copycat :D

Kelly, those colors in #2 really appeal to me too! I hope to wear a lot of it this spring :D

San, thanks you are too sweet ^^

Andrea, the scarf is from Anthropologie but I don't see it on their website. I'll check who makes it when I get home from work and let you know! It came in this color scheme of brown dots with orange animal print, and also in gray/red/citron (which looked Fab on Angie, if I do say so).

Andrea and Mo, /highfive for W&C jacket twins! It's such a fun piece :D

Denise, thanks for the suggestions!! Good eye on #5, the tights are sweater tights and I did initially hesitate to pair them because they are quite close in texture to the sweater; I thought that the winter weight of the shorts required heavier tights, but since both the tights and sweater were similar gauges that it would even out? I will definitely take your advice and try some lighter hosiery with these shorts. I don't think I've worn this vest with any wovens, and will certainly keep that idea in mind for when the weather warms up a bit.

Sona, ohhh that is just too cute!! I am so very flattered, thank you both. Give your daughter an extra hug for meeee <3

Kim and Jonesy, I really appreciate your observations about silhouette. I have been realizing more and more that I feel rutted when I don't vary silhouette enough; 5 skinnies in different colors with 5 different boots in a row would make me feel like I'm rutting even if the outfits were fab, but if I change up the silhouette then I feel dramatically better.
