WIW 01.11-15

It was a neutral-heavy set of outfits last week, predominantly light as usual, with bits of orange and blue. Pretty typical of the types of outfits I've been wearing, lots of skinnies with the occasional something+tights :)

#2 Monday 01.11. Super simple styling, which seems to be my preference with this dress: various shades of gray and brown (the tights are a significantly less purpley taupe despite what the photograph shows). No earrings (weird), finished with plum gloss.
  Newer: dress, sunnies
  Older: tights, boots, coat, clutch

#3 Tuesday 01.12. This ponte top always gives me some trouble despite its interesting, almost-overly-simple design. I think I've about accepted that it's just too large and will likely pass it on shortly. Either way, I've enjoyed most pairing it with light shades as done here -- a slightly longer take on the the cropped pants + high shaft ankle booties look. Plum gloss, big two-tone hoops, and All The Patterns for outerwear.
  Newer: jeans, sunnies
Older: blouse, booties, earrings, coat, clutch, scarf

#4 Wednesday 01.13. Quite like wearing this tunic and blanket scarf together; extra soft, fluffy, and long. Big scarf means hair up (plus it was pretty rainy). Candy pink lipstick and pink rock crystal studs for a little girly clash.
  Newer: pants, scarf, earrings, sunnies
  Older: sweater, boots, coat, clutch

#5 Thursday 01.14. White-out with cognac/cognac-like accents. Chose the gold belt over actual cognac to soften the contrast a bit, and finished with giant gold hoops and soft cherry pink gloss. My sister got me this brilliant (literally) orange/blue plaid coat over the holidays and I'm quite happy to put it right into rotation! Also sporting a cute little aqua clutch my husband got for me.
  Newer: boots, coat, clutch, sunnies
Older: tee, vest, belt, jeans, earrings

#6 Friday 01.15. I'm off shirts for the most part these days, but couldn't pass up this very soft flannel which _perfectly_ matches these jeans; the plaid has a patchwork denim feel and I enjoy the almost-denim-on-denim vibe the two (top, jeans) have together. More cognac/cognac-like accents, orangey-pink lipstick, and of course the orange coat with More Patterns.
Newer: shirt, jeans, earrings, coat, sunnies
  Older: belt, booties, clutch

I LOVE THE NEW PLAID COAT. I am soooo stealing it with my attack dog, Sam.

Fantastic coat! I don't have an attack dog. I have an attack cat? (And by attack, I mean she'll probably rub against your legs and shed on you. She's a big softie.)

I think my favourite is #5. It's so snazzy. I really like the bold combination of colours.
Your hoop earrings are so much fun.

I love your sense of style! The coat is especially fab.

The new coat is fantastic! I particularly like it with the animal print booties and graphic clutch in the last outfit.

All your outfits are ultra amazing as always, Aida - and #6 is my fave. I LOVE the pattern mixing. Killer all the way. Your hair looks adorable in #4. Plaid Squared in #4 is delish too.

I'm back into pattern mixing myself. Many of my recent purchases have been patterns. Coupled with my many pearl necklaces - which I'm wearing A LOT -  I guess I needed a maximal injection.

    Thanks ladies!

Angie, I'll make sure Pooka is there to play with Sam while you, Kaelyn, and I sip tea ^^ I went back to heavy pattern mixing this past summer and couldn't be happier. I'm about to the point where a patterned neutral makes me happier than a solid color (!) but of course a patterned colorful piece makes my heart really sing. Much of my winter wardrobe is solid now so I am going to be Very Firm about making sure I bring in a lot more pattern (and color!) for next year. I love all the patterned pieces you've brought in!

Kaelyn, hee I also have an attack cat! He's too old and grumpy to do anything about anything though so he'll just hang out on his heating pad and ignore yours ;)

Smittie, Betty, and Diana, thank you!

Our styles are colliding, Aida! Go Team Patterns. And Sam would love to play with Pooka.

You have a wonderful girly tomboy style and each outfit has its charms. My favorites are 5 and 6. The pale blue jeans and bright plaid coat are sublime.

Tea sounds lovely! My cat is young and spry and slow to warm up to other cats, so I think she'll happily ignore all of us and do her own thing. ;-)

The coat your sister gave your is wonderful! I love it with both outfits. You always look especially stunning in light colors, but I also really like the maximal mix with light blue and brown. I should have snapped yesterday's outfit - we matched! I wish I had more time to go on and on about how fab you look!

Well... I like all, but especially #1 and #4. And your coats. And I want all your shoes, especially the leopard ones.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I want your blanket scarf. Also, I could live in #1. New coat is cool.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Oh the plaid coat!  Orange and blue were my high school colors.  I really love the white-out look - you make lighter colors look just edgy enough, which is not easy in my book.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

Angie, we must have the right 70s/80s balance going on right now :D

Jaime, is it bad that I hadn't at all considered the blue/brown outfit maximal? I think my tolerance must be very high these days!

Una, hah fun. Mine were dark forest green and black. I like these clashing shades much better. Thank you re the lighter colors, that's certainly a goal of mine even though I figure most days to most people it wouldn't come across.

Another fantastic set of outfits. I love, love, love, #6, and that plaid peacoat is super gorgeous. I love plaid and I love peacoats, so I might have to be a lemming on this one :)

The reviews on the J.Crew website say the coat runs small - does it? They are out of it in my usual size, but not in one size up. It's on final sale so if I do pull the trigger, I can't return it.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Karie, it's tough for me to say about the size. I *think* I would technically be a 2 BUT like to size up a bit to fit a jacket underneath so I got this coat in a 4. I can fit a jacket underneath nicely. My tops, in general, are XS and also 2-4 (to fit shoulders). This coat is cut a bit boxy and has medium roomy sleeves. Does that help?

    (Also thanks! :D)

I love it all Aida, particularly the way you have mixed the bright coat with your leopard booties.
