WIW [2015 holiday edition]

Hello ladies! Here's a little collection of my holiday outfits. Mainly I wanted to have them all in once place for easy future reference, hope you don't mind a photo heavy post (I'll keep chatter to a minimum, feel free to skip the text!) ^^

#2 11.26 [Thanksgiving]. My husband likes to bang out ALL the families in one go to get it done, so this year we hit three families on Thanksgiving day. I chose a dark-and-rusty dressy outfit that's friendly for a full day of eating (seriously, soooo much food), and popped light shoes on to keep my happiness up. Pink lipstick for contrast with the rusty print, and giant gold hoops for a little extra glam.
  Newer: blouse, jeans, flats
  Older: earrings, coat, clutch, sunnies

#3 11.28 [Friendsgiving]. We host a large annual Friendsgiving (13 this year), and it's always a trick to find the right balance of casually-dressy-but-also-cookable. This year I used Angie's holiday plaid ensemble. Easy peasy!
  Newer: jeans
Older: shirt, shoes, earrings, coat, clutch, sunnies

#4 12.06 [Holiday party]. Worn to a very fun "Awesome Girl" holiday party hosted by a couple of (shy ^^) forum members, Beth and Sanda, and it was wonderful to also see forum member Kari there. These crossover pants aren't at all wintery but fun for a party so why not! Added my mom's vintage crystal earrings and holographic clutch for some serious extra sparkle. Also did sheer sparkly eye makeup (party!), though I forgot to actually get a photo of it.
  Newer: sweater, pants
  Older: pumps, earrings, clutch, sunnies

#5 12.24 [Xmas Eve dinner]. Whenever possible, we go out for Chinese food with friends on Christmas Eve. Kept it ultra casual with faded denims, and festive with a cheerful red sweater and giant crystal earrings. Sequins and puffers totally go together, right? ;)
  Newer: vest, jeans, earrings, sunnies
  Older: sweater, booties, coat, clutch

#6-8 12.25 [Xmas]. Same as with Thanksgiving, we spent the day across three families including hosting dinner. For an early breakfast at our house I went simple and repurposed my Friendsgiving outfit. For lunch away I went a little dressier and rewore a recent meetup outfit. And for dinner back at home I modified that outfit by swapping the sweater for a lace moto and the booties for pumps.
Newer: cream sweater, tunic, jeans, flats, earrings
Older: plaid shirt, jacket, booties, pumps, cuff, coat, clutch

#9 12.31 [New Year]. My dad's birthday is New Year's Eve, so we always spend the evening with my folks. Casual dinner followed by gifts, games, and watching fireworks on TV.
  Newer: jeans, boots, sunnies
  Older: sweater, jewelry, coat, clutch

#10 01.02 [White elephant]. Took the opportunity to dress up for an annual White Elephant holiday party friends of ours host.
  Newer: sweater
Older: skirt, hose, pumps, earrings, coat, clutch, sunnies

#11 All the details in one photo.

#12 And a bonus photo of my husband's gift to me: an original Ms. Pacman arcade machine (my favorite game of all time), minus the cabinet paint job which I will be restoring/re-stenciling once it warms up a bit. Soooo fun! :D

Whew! As always comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

These are great! I'm on my phone so it's hard to comment because I can't go back and look at the photos. I love the cropped sweater over the long shirt. Also love the fancy outfit with the maroon coat. Fun clutch and nails. I also loved Ms. Pacman. Have fun playing with your new toy!

So lovely to see your post, Aida. I want to come back and look closer on a bigger screen but as usual you've put together so many knock out looks it's impossible to pick a favorite.

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

It's always a treat to see WIW's from you, Aida! Your white coat is gorgeous; I also love the burgundy mixed media coat.

Your husband's gift is awesome! Enjoy painting and using it. :)

So much to look at - I"ve missed your posts too Aida !  I'm immediately drawn to picture 9  with the cognac boots. Surprising to me - it's not a colour (cognac0  I personally gravitate towards, but there is something here that's really working on you.  That's a useless observation , I realize .  And picture 10 with the white pumps?  Gorgeous. This way of dressing is alien to me (white shoes in general are, unless they are sneakers or Birks - lol but it's very  striking on you ,and not costume-y.  So unexpected with the black sheer hose yet somehow way more interesting than boring black pumps would have been. I learn something every time you post a series of pictures :)

These are wonderful outfits on you and there's lots of holiday inspiration here.  In each you look polished and fun, never messy.  I  love your style.

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

Well, Aida, I already told you how much I admired #8.  #9 and #10 knock me out, too.  Part of it is that I love color mixing neutrals in any form --which you do so well!-- but the big thing is just how gorgeous you look with the high contrast between your sweater and your hair.  Wowee!  I always find the ways you build on pale neutrals inspiring.  And that's something I'm working on right now (treading water while I see how my natural hair color grows in).

  • Gigi replied 8 years ago

I love your WIWs, because you always show such a range of styles. I especially like the color combo in pics 7-8 (with the olive), and the white shoes with the black hose in 10 is amazing. I love the high ponytail in pic 5 too. :)

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Great outfits Aida! And good to see you post. You have a strong consistency with your style yet there is no lack of interest (hope that makes sense). White/light footwear seems to quite a signature element of your style. Love your Christmas gift!

  • ma replied 8 years ago

All of your outfits are gorgeous!! I especially like #5 (which I may try to duplicate so thanks for the inspiration :) and #10 which just looks elegant and festive!!

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

This is a feast for the eyes, Aida.  I always enjoy your multi-picture posts, and marvel at the variety in your outfits.
All are lovely, but I really like the plaid on you.

  • chouette22 replied 8 years ago

Wow, wow, wow, you look amazing! Totally FAB, with capital letters! Photo-heavy - never hesitate! :) I like all the outfits, but 2, 7, and 10 are so perfect for dressy occasions. I might have to order the rust blouse from H&M as you are totally selling me on it (and it's still available). Can I ask you what size you got? This store is sized a bit smaller than let's say GAP, thus I am unsure what to order (and they don't do free returns, so I'd rather get it right).

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Fab outfits as always, what a great holiday time you had! Love your white tree, and DH's present is such unique! I especially loved outfits in 7&8 and am mesmerized by using light colored pumps with black sheers in 10! I so want to do this, but eah time I try I feel like I cut my feet out of the pictie:-) and turn back to black shoes. But am a blonde and low contrast girl, who avoids wearing that much whites on her top part:-((. That should be the clue for sure--- and food for my thoughts:-)).

  • replied 8 years ago

My faves are 2 and 10 (beautiful raspberry coat, omg!)
Your arcade game is too fun. My kids would be ALL OVER THAT :) So nice of dh.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

    *happy dance*

    I MISSED you, Aida.

(FUN Xmas present! WOW. Was it a surprise?)

You went to a fantastic set of casual holiday parties and looked killer at all of them - and I expected nothing less! Our blouse looks beautiful on you, and that's my favourite outfit here. The plaid squared look and the skirt are close seconds though.

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

I've missed your posts, they are so inspiring. You looked fab for all your holiday parties. I really like 7 & 8 with the short over long and the color play.

  • replied 8 years ago

Yay! Lovely to see you Aida. What a treat all these outfits are!

As always, I love how your combine textures. Also, I love the see the way you often incorporate light colours into outfits.

A few stand-out elements are the double plaid in #3, the lovely cabled sweater in #4, a pop of red in an otherwise light tonal look in #5 and the lovely light coloured cropped sweater with black skirt and light pumps in #10. Gorgeous, though, all of them.

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 8 years ago

What a cool Christmas gift! You look great. I especially enjoy the double plaids in 3.

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

Wow! What a treat. A post from you is like a Christmas present. You look amazing in everything! SO pretty!

  • Kaelyn replied 8 years ago

WOW. There's so much I love about this post!

I'm new to the forum, so the first thing is I'm absolutely blown away by your gorgeous curls. I cut my hair super short recently and now I REALLY miss mine. Your hair is seriously fab.

My favorite outfits of the bunch are #5 for the pop of red, #7 for the interesting layering, and #10 for how perfect the coat is with everything under it. But they're ALL great!

  • annagybe replied 8 years ago

Is there a reason you didn't tuck the blouse in for #2? It looks unfinished to me.
    I like #7

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

Aida, you are stunningly gorgeous. I think you look fantastic in all of these; I envy your style confidence and ease. The bold red looks so good on you. YLF!

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

Fab outfits Aida. My personal fav is #7 & your hair is looking great :)

  • replied 8 years ago

There are so many things about this post that I love.

I love your presentation.  So great.
    I love the ensembles themselves.
Then I love certain things/items within each montage.

It would be impossible for me to tease out just a few favorites.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

Thanks for sharing your fun series of festive looks! I love the details too.

You show the way in incorporating light colours into winter. Your coats look stunning on you. I am drawn to the plaid looks the most- the colours, patterns and textures are appealing to me.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

It is so great to see you Aida. Another fab round and I love how you wear light shoes with everything. #5 and #10 are my favorites but they are all beautiful on beautiful you.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks for all the lovely comments and hellos :D

Lisa, Deborah, and Lyn, interestingly enough I'm much more comfortable with the type of shoe contrast in #10 (light shoes, dark legs) versus the opposite (dark shoes, light legs). If I was forced to only one color for footwear it would absolutely be cream, and even now the bulk of my footwear is light colored. Definitely a core style element.

Chouette, I got a 4 in the rust blouse, though I think a 2 would fit as well (just a bit slimmer). I'd say it's about TTS actually. For reference at the GAP I am generally an XS or sized out, though will occasionally take a S if a garment is particularly narrow through the shoulders.

Angie, it was a complete surprise! I was banned from the garage for a couple weeks. Davy gave me several small gifts, each of which had a quarter attached somehow (which I figured was to make odd rattling noises); then after I'd opened them all he told me to take my little pile of quarters and go to the garage where the cabinet was all plugged in and ready to play. Clever!

Anna, only because of the three Thanksgiving meals that day ;) I also like it better tucked in, and actually the other times I've worn the blouse it's been tucked in (e.g. below).

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

So fun to see these!  The H&M blouse looks so beautiful, and so different, on the many fabbers who have made it their own.  Your version looks terrific.

Thanks for posting holiday outfits that make sense in casual settings -- and for sharing your amazing gift!

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

No way! Ms Pacman! That is a major gift! I love the black and white best, of course, and really love the dark hose and white shoes. That seems so festive to me!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

OH, your Davey is a KEEPER. How fun and special. ENJOY!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Ms Pacman - that's so FUN!  Love all your outfits - esp. #9  #10 and #1

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you ladies! And super fun to hear all the Ms. Pacman love -- It's now featured prominently in our "formal" living room :D

Beth Ann, it really is fun to see how different fabbers wear the same items, isn't it! Even if they were styled exactly the same way the outfits would look different on each of us. It's pretty brilliant ^^

Rachy, never thought of the light shoes + dark hose as festive but perhaps that's part of why I'm so attracted to it!

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

Sweet sister! These are all fabulous! It's impossible to pick a favorite. I love the way you wear light footwear; I have been trying to incorporate it in my own outfits - my natural inclination seems to be to wear dark shoes/boots.

So many of your outfits have given me outfit inspiration (#4 especially) - thank you!

  • Jjsloane replied 8 years ago

Always a treat to see a gallery of your looks. I'm particularly fond of #4 and your sunnies collection. Awesome gift - that was my dad's favorite arcade game too!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

    Thank you Karie and JJ!

Karie, so interesting that you gravitate to dark footwear with your lighter hair (many people seem to). Perhaps we two are just wired funny ;)

  • Roxanna replied 8 years ago

I LOVE seeing your posts! And as a fellow curly, your hair makes me smile in every single pic. It's just SO gorgeous!

! like all the outfits, but #10 is my favourite (I'm a dress up for the party' girl at heart.) So fun to see all your earrings too; I hardly ever wear them (mostly because I forget I have them) but you are making me think about them again!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you Roxanna! Seeing other curly girls sport their curls makes me happy too :D I generally wear earrings every day (incidentally I'm giving my ears a break this week). The way many people forget about earrings, I forget about other types of jewelry heh.
