WIW 01.05-07 (70s edition)

I tried a few 70s looks using stuff I already have over the last few days, with mixed success. I was trying for a more modern take, that still fit my style, and found I had a lot more trouble than I'd anticipated.

  1. Worn to work, then out for sushi with friends. Vintage 70s skirt :) This is another pair of my new boots and I really like them. I'd planned to wear my peacock pendant with this but forgot to grab it, boo. This was by far my favorite.
  2. Worn to run errands. Leftmost was the 70s look, but I just couldn't handle the denim+denim. Then couldn't handle the tuck because the jacket was cropped and it left weird hemlines, and wore the rightmost version. So I failed at wearing this look out :(
  3. What I tried to wear. These bad boys (handmade vintage pants from the 70s, they're in my "keep for the memories" pile) are actually high waisted but it was already too much. Waaaaay too wide legged and I chickened out; I should've just taken the photo with the high waist since I didn't wear it anyway.
  4. Worn to work, what #3 turned into (just swapped the pants out, kept the platform heels). I also rummaged through some photos of my parents from the 70s and found photos of BOTH of them wearing this exact top combination (with stripes!) so that made me feel a little better about chickening out of two looks. A little.

I will be trying this again because I don't feel terribly successful with this batch (except #1). Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

#1 is a great outfit! I love your new boots, and I am envious of that great skirt.

#2 I love those jeans on you. Those are great bellbottoms. I like the demin jacket with tucked in shirt for the 70's look and you have the figure for it.

#3, wooa, that's alot of fabric. These are really wideleg pants.

    #4 Very nice.

I am drooling over your boots in #1. Are they a recent purchase? So nice *_*

And #3, those pants are craaaaaaaaazy! I would of chickened out too lol.

I don't know very much about the 70s, but great looks!

You are groovin'! You've stayed within your own style but managed to incorporate the trend. Very creative. Those wide-legs pants could look hot with a sequin halter tank!

#1 you nailed this one. Great style skirt on you too.

#2-The tucked in shirt looks a tad puffy, maybe a longer shirt that tucks in more would work better? Personally I don't mind the untucked version of the shirt and those jeans work very well with the flare tot hem.

#3-Wow, I thought that was a skirt at first. I think a dramatic top is needed for these pants, maybe a tucked in white shirt and a cropped furry shrug? I'm thinking something crisp and sharp may work with those pants. They are dramatic so they should stay the star of the outfit.

    #4-Perfect layered look.

Thanks for the comments! Nicole, the boots were purchased last month as an xmas gift to myself so I've just now gotten a chance to wear them out. They appear to be sold out on Zappos :\

I think AK and Lisa are right, the super-wide pants need a more dramatic overall look. I'll give it some thought, not sure I have anything that would work to give it a look like that. I'm still feeling a bit intimidated by them; can't wear them the way I used to in the 90s, heh.

You are rocking that first outfit. The colors and the silhouette are so pretty on you! I love everything about it--especially the fab boots and belt! #2 and 4 look like casual, Aida style! Super sweet! I think you could do something dramatic with the wide leg pants but I'm not creative enough to offer any help. Fab WIW's--always so nice to see you!

1 and 2 are my fave, well done! It's a shame the tuck didn't feel right - it suits you! 3 is way out of my comfort zone but I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Maybe Audi's Heathen vest you commented on?

Great looks! Love 1 and 2 best!

I love outfit #1 and #4! You nailed an updated 70's vibe in those outfits, Aida. Outfit #1 is KILLER.

#1 is a real winner, and will look even better with your pendant. The boots are yummy!

I think you need higher-rise jeans for the tuck in #2 to work. Great attempt, though! I like it how you ended up wearing it.

I think you've received some good suggestions for #3. I'm not sure I could ever pull these pants off, but then I'm vertically challenged and don't wear heels. (How tall are you?)

#4 is your usual great casual look! You own it!
