OT: Where I've been

For those wondering where I ran off to, I've spent the last several weeks preparing to interview for a job over at Microsoft along with trying to do all of my normal work. So it's been a bit hectic and I haven't been able to drop by the forums much. But! It's clearing up now and I should be back more. Just wanted to let you guys know, and say I missed you all! I've got a bunch of outfits and some shopping to share, too :)

EDIT to add more info (taken from below): I had my first interview loop yesterday, and it went well but they told me they want me to interview for a different group that will better fit my skills. So it seems like it will be a bit of a mini saga while we track down the right job and do more interviews (and hopefully I end up hired for something great!).

Interview outfit: black skinny jeans, white button-up, gray cropped blazer, red pumps (!), knotted champagne pearls. I'm definitely going to need help with more interview outfits, I had a hard enough time with this one! Will post it soon I hope :)

This post is also published in the youlookfab forum. You can read and reply to it in either place. All replies will appear in both places.

Good luck! Microsoft interviews do have a reputation, don't they? So many people don't prep for an interview. You're already ahead of a lot of applicants!

Ah, we missed you! Good luck!!

Thanks ladies! I was wondering where you were! Did you see that your post about the gathering went in?

Hang in there! And the best of luck :)

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Angie I did, it was so much fun reading all the comments! Sorry I couldn't get a title to you >< Loved seeing all the photos, too! I may actually refer to it if I get asked to provide any non-technical writing samples 0:)

And thank you! Their interview process is pretty intense, but it'll be fun to do it again now that I have an idea of how it works (not as scary as I thought it'd be). I must also say that I felt very confident in my outfit, and it's certainly something I'd not have worn pre-YLF, especially to an interview, so a double thank you there: black skinny jeans, white button-up, gray cropped blazer, red pumps (!), knotted champagne pearls.

I was wondering where you had gone! This sounds like an exciting opportunity, though grueling. It reminds me of an academic job interview: they usually run two days long, from breakfast to dinner!

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Aida, I have missed you so very much!

I wish you the best of luck on the next series of interviews. :D

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

    Good luck, Aida. Fingers crossed.

It all sounds very exciting :-) Your interview outfit sounds great and I'm looking forward to eventually seeing it. I hope it all leads to a wonderful job offer!

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

So that's where you've been. I thought you were off on a boat vacation! Good luck on the interview!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the warm welcome and wishes ladies <3

Jonesy - That sounds similar, though academia sounds more grueling (2 days of breakfast to dinner??)! Microsoft interviews are usually 1 full day. At least they bought me lunch ^^

Kelly - Boat vacation sounds fun! No time for it now though hehe.

I've been scarce too -- family stuff, fundraising for radio station, etc. But I wanted to wish you good luck!

  • Patty replied 12 years ago

Wow BIG stuff Aida!! Congrats on the interview!
I haven't been on an interview for a hundred years and I'm shocked to hear that it and last days!!!!! What the heck do you do??????????
The last interview I went on was was loosely: "Hey how ya doing?" 'Good' "You worked on this stuff?" 'Yeah'. "You work with so 'n so?" 'Yeah--he/she's good'. ""K--I'll take you to your desk". But I was still sweating buckets---I can't even begin to image what an all day interview would feel like!!!!! Let alone having to prepare for it!!! I usually just showed up .

    Good luck Aida!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Aida, I meant to post on this earlier. I have a few friends who work at Microsoft and say it's a great place to work. Good luck and glad you're back!

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

So that's where you've been! Phew.
A friend was interviewed for MS some years ago. True, it's a saga, turned out to be worth it. Good luck.

  • taylor replied 12 years ago

    Very best of luck!!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks everyone, your lovely comments are very appreciated! I've had a hard week/weekend and am feeling down about the whole job thing since I was not offered the one I had gone in for (it was really perfect...), and your sweet comments have cheered me right up. Will continue working hard towards my next interview <3

Patty - Yeah, their interview process is known for being intense. Had the other candidate not been so much more qualified than me, I'd have had to go in for a SECOND full day of interviewing hehe. As that was my very first interview experience, I think I'll feel more comfortable in any other interview now.

How exciting! Good luck with the interview process and getting the right job for you!
