Nordstrom half yearly sale items

I wanted to post and get feedback about my Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale finds (that's how long I've been away ><). I had resolved to find a whole bunch of great blouses because that's my absolute biggest wardrobe hole. I spent several hours and didn't find much at all that didn't look clearly like businesswear; I'm feeling extremely discouraged but still don't want to be wearing tees all the time :( I may need some blouse hand holding because I clearly don't know what to look for. Anyway, this is what I came away with:

  1. Bobeau bow tank. I like this, but is it too large? I'm not sure if there's a smaller size available.
  2. Bobeau stripe tank. This one I really like.
  3. Halogen cream tank. I sized up in this for the breezier fit, but now I think it looks sloppy and am planning to return.
  4. H.I.P. cropped top. Different colors for me, very different style. I really like this top but would be interested in styling thoughts?
  5. H.I.P. cropped top, showing how it's really a semi-circle :)
  6. Frenchi sharkbite boxy cropped top. I think the fabric may be too stiff, and you can see from the left side it's not evenly hemmed or something. Not sure about this one, nor how to style it. Likely going back, am I right in thinking a drapey fabric is important for this style?
  7. Frenchi sharkbite boxy cropped top, to show the super boxiness and a more relaxed pose.
  8. Bronx olive oxfords. By far my favorite purchase of the day; these are the perfect oxfords I've been looking for for a couple years now :D
  9. Bronx olive oxfords, detail.
  10. Accessories: leather fringe necklace, champagne pearls, brass 3-triangle pendant (from UO), feather earrings (from UO). Love all of these.

Would love to hear your honest thoughts on the items, and styling thoughts!

Aida, of the tops, #2 and #4 are my favorite. I can see 2 working with your current wardrobe and the fit is fantastic. #4 is such a fun piece (you know I'm a sucker for these wide cropped tops), and a little different than your usual color range and style. I love how you've worn it, and I can also see it over a fitted skirt with a longer underlayer or over a tank dress. I see pattern mixing in your future... I vote to keep those for sure!

I'm not a fan of bows, so I'll abstain on that one. I think the sleeves on #6/7 are a bit awkward when your arms are down; I'd like them to droop a little more to avoid the peaked-out look, if that makes sense. Not loving the Halogen tank - it fits fine, but the style is not cutting it in this color for me.

The oxfords are killer, and I would keep all the accessories!

Ooh I do love those Bronx olive oxfords. They have great detail.

I like everything you got. I love your dramatic and interesting style. You have great taste and seem to be a trend setter. You're one of those people who make the clothes look good.

I've been wondering where you were! I love the striped top (2), the printed cropped top (4), the oxfords (8-9), and all of the jewelry (10).

The woven cropped top (5) is different in that the fabric is stiff looking, but it's growing on me because it's unique. It may need washing to soften up. If it's unevenly sewn, you might want to exchange it for one that's not defective or pass. As far as styling it goes, I think you're moving in the right direction. You could try different colored tanks underneath, and long pendants (such as in 10) to balance out the horizontal lines of this top.

I'm not sure about the bow tie top (1). And I can't put my finger on it.

I have a feather necklace to go with your feather earrings! From H&M. Can you see it?

Love tops 2 and 4, the shoes and all the jewelry. The others are just not that exciting on their own. Maybe layered under jackets or cardigans?

  • teri replied 12 years ago

2 and 4 are my FAVORITES!!!!!!!!

  • lynne replied 12 years ago

    Love 1,2, and the shoes!

  • nicoleb replied 12 years ago

Ahhhh Aida! I feel like we have similar style tastes. I really love the things you picked, and i have had my eye on that triangle pendant necklace!!

I have a circle shirt and i've only worn in a few times...but i usually just pair it with skinnies like you did. Sorry i'm not all that helpful.

I think everything looks really nice on you! Thanks for sharing all of this!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the great detailed input and suggestions ladies! It seems your thoughts are in line with mine. If anyone else has opinions or styling suggestions I'd love to hear! :D

Una, great suggestions on the circle top! I will definitely give those a try.

Denise, #5 is a thin material (cotton I think?), and may loosen a bit after washing. I'll have to give it a closer examination to see if it's really unevenly sewn or if it's me. Love your feather necklace! I thought of you when I saw these earrings :)

Modgrl, I would definitely like the tanks to work as stand-alone items (with layering being a bonus) since I'm lacking a bit in that part of my wardrobe. I certainly don't want to keep any that won't work, since my summer wardrobe space is very limited.

Nicole, I too think we have similar style tastes! Glad you like what I picked :D

  • Sylvie replied 12 years ago

    #2 is my favorite.
#1 looks good but is maybe a little plainer than the other tops.
    #4 is fun.

The oxfords are great too and I like the necklaces.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I love 2 and 4! I think 6/7 could be cute with a lower-contrast tank underneath. Love the oxfords and the jewelry!

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

2 and 4 are fab, I'm undecided about 6.. perhaps with a darker color under-top?
    Love the shoes!
I'm not crazy about the first necklace, but jewelry is so much a matter of personal taste....

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thank you for the input and suggestions! Consensus emerging, for sure. Definitely still interested in more opinions, if they're out there (Angie are you floating around somewhere? Would also love to hear your thoughts :)

Jonesy and Kim, a lower contrast top under #6/7 is a great idea! Now I just have to go buy one; how do I not have a black tank?? I have a charcoal one, I'll give that a try.

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

I like #2 and #4. Accessories are so personal, it's hard to say if what I like matters to what you like lol. But for the record, I do like them all. :) Not sure on the shoes - they are a style I don't go for myself. Now let's see what everyone else had to say.

  • Bianca replied 12 years ago

Really like # 4 on you. I think the b&w shirt you can get a lot of use out of. Funky Jewelry! Cool!

  • Freckles replied 12 years ago

Number two is killer on you! Love the oxfords and the jewellery.

I know if it were me I might fuss with necklace number one wondering if it got mixed up and was laying funny... Of course it may not do that at all in real life...

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

Without reading other comments I like #2 and 4 a lot. Oxfords are also awesome - I wish I can find ones for myself. Accessories from the last picture are great too.
From other tops # 3 and 8 look like nice basics if you need them. #6/7 does not appeal to me as much as #4 - I think because the front hem is not as flattering.
    Nice loot!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks ladies! #2 and #4 are strong winners, not even a fair fight ;) #1 and #6/7 had few strong opinions, which kind of surprises me. Still interested in hearing thoughts and styling ideas, especially curious about #1 and #6/7.

  • Mellllls replied 12 years ago

my favorite is #2. i would wear that!

  • yublocka replied 12 years ago

You have a great collection of tops there Aida. Are you planning to keep them all? #1 and 2 are my faves. I am still kicking myself for not ordering #1 as well. It looks wonderful!!

  • greenglove replied 12 years ago

Love # 4 and the oxfords. Like everything else also but those are the 2 knockouts. I like the way you styled # 1 but would like to see it with funky heels and possible a midi skirt. maybe a shorter structured jacket? #6- over a dress- I have a cropped top that I wear over a slim midi tank dress and I love the proportions. The white does seem too contrasting- grey or black would give a longer line with the jeans. Everything looks very cool and very you!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

    Love 1, 2, 5 and THOSE SHOES!!!

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

I like 1, 2 and 4. I have #1 in a different color and the fit looks about the same here. #2 is just a real fresh spin on the stripes look that is so popular right now. #3, I have two of these but only use them for layering, I would size down one. I prefer when the lace peeks out from underneath other tops. #4 is so different and just lovely on you as styled. I'm not a fan of #6, I like the color and print but wish it had more volume/flow to it. Those oxfords are super fun, a great find!

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

    Sounds like you're sorted.

I just had one (technical) comment - I find it very clever how you take photos of the unstyled items in a neutral setting and with 'plain' bottoms, and the collages are simple and effective, while your WIWs really get another dimension when shot outside. Whether you planned it like this or not I don't know, I just know I like it.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks ladies! You've all been a great help. #2, #4/5, shoes, and accessories are all staying. #1 and #6/7 will require further experimentation, and I'll most definitely try all the suggestions you all gave me for them. #3 is going back, I have to think about whether I want to size down and keep it for a layering piece or not; in the smaller size it's still a bit too loose to layer, but they don't come any smaller than that -_-

Ornela - Very observant! I'm glad you appreciate this, I do do this on purpose :) I know that showing attitude when wearing certain items (especially trendier, harder to work items) could sway opinions, and when I'm asking keep/return I want the item to stand on its own separate from my attitude or any fancy styling (if that makes sense?).

  • Sparky replied 12 years ago

Psst, Aida, if you want the Halogen tank as a layering piece, they do come in petite, which would get you a smaller size: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ha.....tback=2052

Not on sale right now though. I have one for layering under jackets and really like it.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Oh brilliant, Sparky! I totally forgot about petites *smacks forehead* I think the size down in petites should fit quite well, I'll definitely hunt that down when I go to return/exchange this weekend. Thanks!

  • Mellllls replied 12 years ago

thanks sparky! that looks like a great layering cami for us petites!
