My NAS purchases (squeaking 'em in just before the sale goes live!)

Well I didn't think I'd be able to hit up the presale, but finally decided I could budget it in and popped over today. I was able to try nearly everything I had wanted at my small little Nordies, and came away with 5 pieces. And then when I got to my car, the engine light came on and it wouldn't start... so I may have to return some or all of them -_- Either way, I would love to hear your thoughts on these!

#1 Vince Camuto Contrast Trim Houndstooth Blouse - Love this blouse, but I kind of feel like it should be longer? This is a petite and the sleeves are borderline long already. I very much need a few more long sleeve blouses for fall/winter.

#2 Halogen Belted Ponte Skirt - A bit long, even in the petite which this is. I was disappointed that nearly all the other skirts I tried were very thin and showed my tissue weight layering tank when tucked. This one has a nice weight, and will be great when the weather truly cools down.

#3 Halogen Colorblock Crewneck Sweater - I know everyone is on a loose top kick, but in cold weather I really like fitted tops best. I've been looking for a colorblocked sweater since last year that wasn't dark, and while I was hoping for something colorful I like these light neutrals a lot.

#4/5 Blush moto - Not online anywhere from what I could see. One of my TOP MUST HAVE items for this season was a light colored leather jacket, ideally cream or light gray. This blush shade is so pretty and unexpected, it's lovely! (Angie is this the same one you ended up getting?) If I had to keep only one item, this would be the one. I just loooove it! Probably won't wear it done up, but photo included anyway.

#3-5 Fergie 'Linda' boot - I'm a bit torn on this boot. The shaft seems a weeeee bit tall, and it's also a teensy bit wide on my calf so once the leather softens up it's going to slouch. Which I think will ruin the cool structured vibe it has (you can see it already starting to loosen in the photos). Plus I'm not sure I can handle the width through the ankle due to the spat style. Plus plus hubby hates them quite a lot >< So I'm still thinking this one over. I don't _need_ more tall boots, but hey you can never have enough in the wet wet Seattle weather. It would probably be more useful to get a bootie or two, but I didn't see any that I wanted.

#6 Nordstrom 'Graphic Dot' Tights - Also wanted to bolster my hosiery collection, and have been wanting to add some fun textured nude tights since Angie's Japan series of posts.

    It all looks fabulous, Aida!!!

Have you tried a size up in the blush moto? It looks a little snug with only a thin tee layered underneath - under the arms, on the arms and across the bust. That's my only concern. (Yes! I have the same one! It is not available online).

LOVE you in those boots and skirt!! Hope you had lots of fun.

    LOVING THE NEW DO. xoxo

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I did not see any of these items when I quickly looked through the selection in LA. Looks like you did really well, I especially like the houndstooth shirt and midi skirt, both are good colors on you and show impeccable fit.

So I would keep them all except the color block sweater. It looks a little thin, but maybe that could be solved with a cami underneath it.

Boots look so good with those shorts and the jacket!

Does the jacket feel a little snug around the back? Looks fine unzipped but just a tad snug when zipped, although it may stretch out. What do you think?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for the feedback Angie and Denise!

I didn't try a size up on the moto because this was the only one there. This photo is actually layered over a medium-thick cable sweater :) I can call my store tomorrow to see if they will be getting any more in. It doesn't _feel_ tight but now that you mention it I do see some pulling under/behind the arms in the photos so I'll have to check that in the morning.

Denise, yes the colorblock sweater is definitely thin. I usually wear camisoles with sweaters in the winter anyway so I think that should be fine.

Angie, do you think the boot slouching will be a problem stylistically?

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

I love the sweater and blush jacket :)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Aida I like everything you have shown us:). I do have a little hesitation on the first blouse but not sure why. I like it very much but sm wondero g how you will wear it?

The Ponti skirt is stunning...domt you dare return it. Color Block sweater looks gorgeous on you and the blush leather jacket is wow! Agree worth trying the size up. The color looks sensational on you.

And I really like the boots. If you think they will retain their structured look then I would keep. I like the night and they look pretty cool with your shorts.

Clearly you are a very organised and practiced shopper:)

  • replied 11 years ago

All fab, my faves are the ponte skirt and the blush moto. Angie may have a point over the fit on the moto.. just a little snug looking when done up but if its going to be worn open it may not bother you. It is a gorgeous colour. Lovely choices well done.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Your boots slouch perfectly and are an 11 out of 10, Aida! I LOVE them with the shorts!!

Definitely go up a size on the moto. This one seems just a tad too tight all over, and you'll want to wear a pullover underneath it - we live in Seattle after all :)

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

(Aida, may I just say how much I love your posts, from another perspective other than just their content.
They are always nicely formatted, neat, clear, easy on the eye, everything is cross-referenced, it's such a pleasure to read them. The geek in me loves how they look like proper product spec. Just wanted to say I notice and appreciate the effort you put in the *way* you address us on line. With your fab collages and the effort you put into your posts, you really elevate the standards of communication here. Bravo!)

Sorry to hear about the car and I do hope the dent in the budget won't be too drastic. Because there are gems here that I would like to see on you in the future.

Big YAY for the blush moto jacket. It looks wonderful and if it's the only thing you keep, that it is more than fanatstic NAS outcome!

For some reason one gorgeous skirt of yours (gray, tweedy, full, you once wore it with that thin double-belt, youknowhichoneimean) came to my head when I saw this jacket - I'm not sure if you personally would style the two together, but I'd love to see them... toughened up a bit Aida-way... just a thought.

I also love the houndstooth blouse (ever since Angie posted it, actually, and I'm so happy many of you got it - talk about living vicariously ;-) ).
Does Nordstorm have alteration services? If you want longer blouse perhaps you could consider getting regular size, then shortening the sleeves. This is boxy style I don't think you'll experience any issues with the proportions if you go to regulars, yet you'd get the length you want.

The boots look great on you, but the considerations you have would make me think whether to keep them. I see Angie had chimed in (with 11), but you've listed a number of factors that would make me think I need to sleep on them a few more days before the final decision.

  • Makrame replied 11 years ago

Great to see your picks (and I hope your car is sorted out soon)!

The ponte skirt is perfect on you! That skirt and the color block sweater are my favorites of the lot, although the rest of your purchases look good, too.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

blouse and skirt are 10's, gotta keep! and I loved the sweater with the black skinnies. Fab outfit there. The boots are awesome!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Wow, Aida, you did REALLY well. I love everything on you, but esp the houndstooth and the skirt and the boots. And blush is one of your colors. Well done!

  • Traci replied 11 years ago

Oh no! You've given me clicker's remorse! I just finished up my NAS order and that skirt made it all the way to the final edits, but in the end I cut it out. Seeing it on you I'm kicking myself.

That blush moto is to die for!

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

That blush moto is so fab!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

I love everything!! My least favorite is the colorblock sweater. The blush moto is stunning on you!!! The skirt fits you perfectly, too, you need to keep that one for sure, too. Sorry to hear about your car!

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

I love that skirt on you! All good finds but that's the one that made me gasp. Hope your car is cheaply better so you can keep your picks :-)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I'm swooning over that skirt and the boots Aida! Just gorgeous on you.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I love that skirt on you! The blush moto is pretty too, but like Angie, would like to see you in a larger size. The boots are fab, fab, fab!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

OMG love the boots!!!! I had tried a similar boot, Fergie Lattitude, and it was just too floppy. I will have to keep an eye out for these. They are especially cool with the shorts and jacket - perfect color on you. Would love to see the size up if you can find it, but if not I'm in favor of holding onto this one.

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

My favorite items here are the blush moto and the tall boots. If funds are an issue I vote keep the moto. And the boots second if you can swing it. The rest can wait til another day.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Love the boots and the jacket in a larger size. What department was the jacket in? I didn't see it. Maybe it would work for me if the orange moto doesn't work.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

I love all the items! I agree about sizing up with the jacket. The houndstooth top does NOT look too short. I also love your selecting such wonderful neutral but patterned pieces!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Great choices! I'm amazed at how well the skirt fits you, and how good it looks being such a busy pattern (smart eye you have!). I like the snug fit of the moto.

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

I am reconsidering that skirt...it is amazing on you. I think all these fit well with your style, and I really like the boots so I say keep on those.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the fantastic feedback ladies, and especially for letting me know which items you like best. I've got my car part on order, and it should be here next week; if hubby can fix it then I should be OK to keep everything (or maybe send back one thing), but if it has to go to the shop then I'll definitely have to send stuff back.

So! I've been wearing the boots and moto+sweater (I'm feeling quite warm right now ;) ) for an hour or so to see how they loosen up: so far the jacket loosened a little (still some folding under the arm) and the boots haven't slouched more than they appear in the photos. But the boots are definitely the big waffle item; lots of love here and an 11 from Angie... on the other hand there's 2 fingers of gap and hubby didn't like them at ALL from the photos (but hasn't seen in person yet). Tough one ><

Angie, after wearing the jacket for an hour (with a sweater) I think all of the pulling is coming from my wide shoulders *sigh*, because it seems to fit OK everywhere else and the shoulder seam is at the proper spot. I do prefer a snugger fit for leather jackets, but will definitely try to track one down in the size up.

Deborah, I see whatever mysterious thing it is you see with the houndstooth blouse, too. I've ordered the regular size so we'll see if that magically fixes it :)

Ornella, the editor/technical writer in me thanks you for the writing compliment! I do know the skirt you mention (and have another similar one now, too!) and will definitely try to pair the blush moto with it. I've got the regular size houndstooth blouse on the way; I tried it again and the cuffs are pretty slim so there's a chance it'll actually be OK without alterations.

Rae, I remember you trying those! Wasn't sure if it was these or not, I know you don't like obscuring your ankle (like me); these aren't quite straight up and down, they have a teensy bit of shaping which is nice.

Anna, the blush moto was in TBD. This was the only one at my small Nordstrom, so hopefully you can find it at one of the bigger two!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Update! After much time on the phone, I've got a larger moto coming in the mail. Will post photos as soon as it gets here!

Anna, I was wrong about the section. It's in Savvy, mine was just hanging in the wrong department.

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

    Aida,
I love everything on you- the skirt is so fun with that pattern, I can see that with many style options.
i love the jacket and I think the fit is borderline. I know what you mean about having the jacket be fitted. Sometimes if you size up you lose the cut.
That jacket is not in our store. Does it have gold or silver hardware? I am tempted to track it down but will not bother if it is silver.
    You look lovely!!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for the input, Jean! I always seem to be borderline between sizes, I should just either eat more cheese or loose a couple pounds so I don't have to try 2 sizes all the time ;) Definitely concerned that the larger size will loose the nice snug cut, so I have my fingers crossed it works (I'll keep this smaller size if it doesn't). The blush jacket does have silver hardware, but if you decide you want to track it down I can give you the store item number so they can look it up for you.

  • replied 11 years ago

Aida, I love everything. I hope you get to keep it all. As far as the blush moto, I seem to be in the minority because when I saw it on you, I caught myself saying:" Wow, perfect". I do not mind how snug it is, I think it is not ridiculously snug, it is flattering to my eye. Also, that jacket seems to be lambskin, that will give in, IMO. I think you might loose that nice shoulder and waist definition with the next size up.

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

You've got some great finds, Aida!
I love the houndstooth blouse and I don't think it looks too short on you at all The regular size may be more the length you want, but is it worth having to shorten the sleeves?

    LOVE the skirt !!

Not as crazy about the color block sweater, although I can't say exactly why.

I like the moto jacket on you in this size -IF you don't pan to wear it zipped up, and IF you're only going to wear a light layer underneath.
Otherwise the next size should be better.

I'm indifferent about the boots, but if Angie says they're great I'd listen to her.

All in all, I'd say you cleaned up!

PS: Could you check out my post here, and give me some hair tips? Thanks!

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

I am catching up, big time here, and have to begin by saying how utterly fabulous your new hair style is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am also amazed by the style quotient difference I sense with the new, more edgy, angled bob that plays up those to-die-for curls!!!! I hope you are just as thrilled as I am with your new cut ;-)

Now, NAS - We might be blush leather quadruplets (or something) !! I got one too! I am usually between S & M and got M, so if you need to size 'up' that might be the way they run. Please keep this (are you listening, Aida's car?) because its color with your color is SO beautiful!!

I'm also smitten with those boots ;-)

  • Mellllls replied 11 years ago

I really like the moto jacket in that size. Also love the boots.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Aida, I really hope the larger moto jacket works on you, because I love you in it (but agree it looks snug in the shoulders.)

I LOVE your picks! (And hey there, skirt twin!)

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I am crazy about the boots and the skirt! Since you say the boots gap, when I squint my eyes at the photos I can see how you are concerned they might start to slouch more over time, but I wouldn't have picked up on that myself. What does hubby not like, the spat-like detail? I can see that being something my DH would be confused by. I just think they look so great on you and and both fit your style but also bring a cool new element to it. Yeah, the skirt is gorgeous. Everything else I could go either way on. (except the tights--tight fun is always good). I agree that the first blouse could be longer. The sweater is pretty, but I find the curve of the color block in the bust area odd, although that is just a matter of personal preference. The moto is a gorgeous jacket, but I do wonder if it is a little touch snug in the arms. Looking forward to seeing the other size and maybe a styled look with it :) (just to see this gorgeous jacket in action--I would so buy it if I could)

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Colorblock Halogen sweater (3) is my absolute favourite!

  • replied 11 years ago

You scored some great items here, and boy are they figure flattering! You look great!

Good luck with your car. . . I hope it's something minor.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate all of the feedback! I just realized that the sweater I bought is petite so I am keeping my eyes peeled in hopes that the regular size comes back into stock to see if its longer length/sleeves looks better. Will post an update when I get all the new sizes :D

Scarlet, hubby doesn't like tall boots in general, and even more when they are wide at the ankles (my ankles are quite small). I still haven't had a change to show him in person (he's only seen these photos); debating picking up a larger size so I can put an insert in there but that would make the gap even bigger :\
