WIW 07.02-06

Sorry I know we're all excited for the short hair, but I've got 2 weeks of long hair outfits to share first :} After the previous week's failure to not wear jeans every day, I wanted to keep the denim to a minimum this week. The weather was beautiful and warm, which of course helps tremendously!

  1. Monday; worn to work, then out for tacos. Coolest day of the week, but still dry. Last summer I wore mostly fitted tops with these baggy jeans, this year I'm liking the slouchier tops. Played up the boho vibe with hair down, feather earrings, and tie-dye scarf.
  2. Tuesday; worn to work. Remember these poor motor-oiled booties? I worked on them off and on for a month to rehabilitate the leather and am quite happy with how they turned out. (You can read about it on my blog, part one here, and part two here.) I was actually going to wear black shoes, but was inspired by Rae's outfit that same morning to don brown instead. So they finally get their debut! Oh and also a crazy print mix ^^
  3. Wednesday; worn to a 4th of July BBQ at a friend's, and lastly a short walk to the waterfront to watch the Everett fireworks show. Very subtle red/white/blue outfit (red nails/lip, flag-striped dress, blue denim). This knit dress was perfectly comfy for a BBQ and still looks very put together.
  4. Thursday; worn to work and grocery store. I've been wearing the yellow version of this skirt quite a bit, so I wanted to give the teal a go this day. Styled VERY softly for me, along with super color matchy. Bun, big white hoops, and strappy sandals to unsoften it a bit (not much, though).
  5. Friday; worn to work, then dinner with my hubby's parents and grandparents. I don't wear this dress as often as I probably should; the fabric is actually rather thick and more of a fall/winter weight, but the tabs on the sleeves make jackets/cardigans hard to layer over. It has a self-belt but I wasn't in the mood to wear it so I snipped it off! And because it's so much black, I of course had to add in some jolts of bright color. I know most of you have adjusted to midis but as a shortie I still like shorter lengths :)

    #5 is my favorite.

I'm with Anna- I can't get past #5. You just ooze fashionable sophistication in that outfit, and the bright colors are a perfect accent.

    I love it all!

KILLER week. #1 and #2 are my faves!

It's going to be fun to see you in these items with the new do :)

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

All are truly great, but #5 is striking with it's sophistication via black day dress with neon necklace. What could be better? ;-)

Another great week! I think my favs are 5 and 4! How tall are you? I have always seen you as tall except that you've been mentioning lately that you are a shorty so now I have to retrain my brain. You photograph tall :P

FAB week, Aida. If I ever meet you, can we go out for tacos? I always love to hear that you "went out for tacos"...

I love the neon with the cobalt in 5, and of course I love everything else, too!

Ooohhh, the motor-oiled booties turned out fabulously! What a great save! The print mix in #2 is super fun.

Yay, the blue chevron skirt comes out to play! Luv the matchy blues with gold accents!

You know how I like ALGO, but I have to admit that the crisp simplicity of #5 is refreshing. Like a palate cleanser before sampling more FAB items. : )

It just keeps getting better as I click! 3, 4, and 5 really have me going! Glad you got some bare-leg time up in the frozen north. ;)

I can't believe how beautiful your booties are now! Amazing.
But #5 is my favorite - that dress fits so well, and then you pumped it up with the colors. Just gorgeous.

#5 is my favorite here! Love the black dress with the dramatic pops of color. I love all the combinations here however #2 is pretty advanced pattern mixi g and My eye needs to adjust a little for this one but you do wear it well.

You gorgeous, creative creature. #5 is out of this world!

What a great week! I especially love #4!

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

There's just something about black that screams chic. #5 is my favorite.

Ack, so fab! I liked 3 a lot, but then 4 and 5 shot me over the moon! The metallic sandals in 4 are amazing with the turquoise and blues. I love the structure of your black dress (and boo for all those seasonally confused items that we don't end up wearing enough). It looks perfectly summery here, with all of the equal brights, so maybe it needs to become a summer dress for you. Supah-fab week, Aida!

Great week! Here's my preference in order from favorite to least: 2 - I swoon - the color purple, the mixed prints, the perfect length of leggins - and the boots - I WANT those boots! 5 - looks cool, crisp, love the pops of neon. 3 - I automatically have an aversion to anything that even remotely looks like red, white or blue when worn in the month of July - but that dress is adorable - and it passes my "flag" test. Toss up between 4 and 1. I'm not a fan (even though I know it is stylish now!) of matchy stuff - and so this is why I'm not raving about 4. However, it looks great on you - its just my own hang-up about matchy! And 1 - my eye is slowly getting accustomed to this look. When I first looked at the pic my immediate thought was "this just totally swallows up petite Aida!" I thought it was just too much fabric, too much bagginess, etc. etc. - but now I'm starting to get used to it - I think I'd appreciate it more in person than in the pics because I have no doubt that with your personality you can pull of this look and NOT be swallowed whole by it! Fun pictures - thanks for posting.

Big WOW for 4 you look so good in teal and I love you in the black dress.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the comments, ladies :D Glad to hear so many of you like the black dress in #5, I'll try to start wearing it more as a summer dress!

Angie, I agree! So far I'm not noticing any major dressing style changes (OK it's only been a week), but everything certainly looks different with the new hair :) Though there are a couple of classic/less trendy pieces I haven't been wearing that seem more appealing now.

Abie, hehe I've heard that I photograph tall, but I'm only 5'3". Any time I wear long pants, there are tall heels under there, too. I take my photos at about hip height which gives me the most even looking photo proportions, but most people certainly see me from above head height.

Sarah, we should most definitely go out for tacos! Our favorite Mexican restaurant does $1 tacos/beers on Mondays, so we go most weeks (and often with friends). It's a good time :)

Marley, thank you for the great detailed comment! For #1, I see what you're saying and that type of look definitely needs to have all the details done right to not overwhelm. I do think you would like it in person :) In that outfit all of the fabrics are loose and light, so they have really nice movement and drape. Exposed wrists and collarbones help show that I'm small underneath, and the semi-tuck+low contrast heels makes the legline look as long as possible which keeps things vertically slimmer; the long hair, long earrings, and long scarf all also add vertical lines.

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

Great outfits! I would have guessed that you were much taller too! The proportions in your outfits are fantastic. Number 5 is my favorite. Love the pops of color against the perfectly fitted black dress.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Aida, I love this series of outfits, but the sophistication and bright colors of #5 really grabs me.

I'm so glad that you were able to re-work those booties after they met with their accident. The fading almost looks like a distressed ombre color! They look great and I don't think anyone would have guessed that they hadn't started out that shade.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks KathyL and Kari! :D

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Late to the party but, goodness gracious, you look fab! 1 and 5 are my faves but every one of these is awesome :) Love how you incorporate different silhouettes, patterns and colors. You never have a dull day!

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

It was a great Aida week and I love you in 5, with the strong jolts of color! I also love your boho look in 1 and the crazy print party in 2
