WIW 03.23-25 (for spring training!)

This past weekend hubby and I flew down for a rather last-minute trip to catch some baseball! At the start of the year my husband and I had really wanted to plan a trip to Peoria to catch a couple Mariners games during Spring Training. Ultimately we weren't able to book the trip, and were quite bummed. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, when I decided to take some of my spring/summer wardrobe budget (my spring/summer wardrobe is in a good place, really) and put it towards a short weekend trip. We had a great time: got to watch 2 baseball games (1 loss for the Ms, and 1 win for the Padres) at the Peoria Sports Complex, explore a little of the surrounding area, and soaked up some much needed sun.

Photos 1-4 (Saturday) - Airport/flight there, Mariner's game, dinner at The Salty Senorita.
#1: I actually wore the outfit in #10 to the airport, and then changed into this for the rest of the day. Finally a chance to sport an xmas gift from my sweet sister: a custom made women's jersey of my favorite player (the Ms brilliant shortstop).
#2: Forgot to set the white balance for the first pitch, but the effect turned out kind of fun ;)
#3: What the field really looked like. Gorgeous day!
#4: Hubby and me and the field after the game (top row), yummy food at The Salty Senorita (bottom row) which is a fun outdoor bar and certainly not something we get to experience in Seattle. Swapped from bright orange lipstick to plum in the evening.

Photos 5-9 (Sunday) - Padre's game, exploring, BBQ dinner, scotch at an Irish pub.
#5: My outfit for the day. I spent most of the day with the sweater on, and changed back into pants before we headed to dinner. More plum lipstick because it has sun protection.
#6: The view of the field from out on the burm; we enjoyed sitting on the grass for the game, also something we don't get to do out here.
#7: Took a short drive on the 101 loop and stopped at a park, though at first we weren't sure if that's what it was. We enjoyed walking around and looking at the cactuses and wild flowers.
#8: The greenest hill we saw all weekend!
#9: I have a seriously irrational love for fried pickle chips! I ate waaaay too many at dinner and didn't regret it one bit. Finished the night off with some Glenlivet scotch (21 year for hubby, 12 year for me).

Photos 10-11 (Monday) - Breakfast at a mushroom bar, airport/flight home.
#11: My flight outfit, and a very comfy and easy formula: boxy button-up, slim pants with stretch, and fun loafers. Windy!
#12: We had a delicious breakfast at a mushroom bar, which had a fabulous selection of stuffed mushrooms (what a great idea!). Then it was off to the airport and back home.

#13: Bonus photo of our brand new scorebook (too bad our team lost, the next day they won 16-0!), which we thought would be fun to christen during Spring Training. Totals not done ;)

Overall I was really happy with my (very) light packing. Everything you see here is what I took. I also got to refresh my memory on some summer formulas that I like to wear, and am feeling great about my summer wardrobe even though I won't get to use any of it until July. This was such a fun trip that we've decided to try and find a way to go at least every other year (and next time I'm going to plan it so that I can meet up with Claire since she's just a short drive away).

EEE, so much fun! You look super cute in each and every outfit. Fab jersey, short shorts, and denim shirt. The black skinnies also make you look extra trim. Baseball season, hurry up already!

This is so cool! I just showed your post to my hubby and he is so jealous. One of these days I'll have to get him to Spring Training. That was awfully sweet of you to give up some of your clothing budget to make it happen. You look fabulous and happy. Love the scenery, food and baseball shots. Thanks so much for sharing!

What a fun adventure Aida!  You and hubby look adorable together!  Love all of your outfits, particularly the one with denim shirt and black skinnies.

I am not one bit a sports person but you have made spring training look like so much fun! Love every picture whether of baseball, scenery or gorgeous you (and handsome hubby).

    Your outfits are perfect!

My husband and I are big hockey fans and I always struggle with how to wear the jersey and still look stylish.  I take great inspiration from photo #1 - very simple, very stylish, yet very supportive of your team.  Also, the rest of your outfits are lovely - I hope you had a great time with your hubby.  Love the scorebook - I thought we were bad for obsessing over hockey stats.... apparently not! :)

First I have to recover from how beautiful you are. My goodness Aida, your hairstyle is just perfect for your hair and you. I still enjoy your shorter hair as much as when I first saw it.

    I'll be back.

What a fun trip - and you look great in every picture! I wish I could still wear short shorts because I love your rolled shorts look!

Hey there sports fan! I saw this last night but was too tired to write anything coherent (can't promise anything better this morning, lol)! You are so cute in that feminine jersey. That's the only kind I would ever wear. It goes great with your black skinnies and flats. It looks like you chose the perfect capsule for your trip. The restaurants look fun; I've never had fried pickle chips. They sound mighty tasty though. You and hubs look so sweet together and I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves. Next time we will have to meet up for sure!

Didn't know you were baseball lovers! How fun :). You both look wonderful! Loving how the gold slipper flats glam up all the outfits, Ms. Looks Amazing In Baggy Denim Shorts!!!

I really enjoy seeing all your collage style photos. You always look amazing
  • Karie replied 11 years ago
Hey fellow baseball fan (although I cheer for my childhood hometown team, the Phillies - OK, stop booing)! You look great in every outfit!
  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago
What fun! I was trying to see the thumbnails on my phone yesterday and was going cross eyed! I love how you can make a sports jersey look so stylish, Aida. And, OMG, I love the gold smoking slippers (is that what they are) and how they so seamlessly go with everything. You look positively smashing in all of these. DH is pretty adorable too--ok, make that handsome. You guys are the cutest couple ever :)

What a blast!  I know how much you were looking forward to this trip, and I love how everything you're wearing is so light and spring looking.  The denim shirt outfit is perfection, but all of them are, really.  TOO CUTE!

Thank you for the sweet comments, ladies! I am happy to see so many other fellow baseball fans; we saw a lot of groups of women at both games, and I was lamenting to my husband that I don't have any girlfriends who like baseball... and here you all are :D

Rae, I know right?! Monday monday monday ^^ As an aside, hubby and I are hoping to hit up San Diego later this summer for baseball, and I've told him I want to also drive up to LA to catch a Dodgers game with you if possible. I'll keep you posted!

Debora, it really is a lot of fun even if you aren't a big baseball fan. Sun, food, and relaxation!

Krista, ohh I am such a number muncher so baseball and its crazy stats and saber metrics is really right up my alley! Only planning to do the scorecards for games we see in person, though :) We also love hockey, though without an NHL team in Seattle we just try to catch Canucks games whenever they're on (I always check the scores). Our city does have a WHL team (as does Seattle), though, and we really enjoy going to those. It is certainly a challenge to make the sports gear look cute sometimes! Maybe I should dig through my outfit archives and post some of my sport-event looks, hmm...

Claire, if you like pickles and fried things then you'll probably like them! I prefer the sliced variety like this to the quartered spears, and especially enjoy 'em dipped in ranch or horseradish. We were surprised by how many chain restaurants there were in the area surrounding the sports complex. We had to really hunt down local places to eat.

Angie, we got into baseball just a couple years ago, but I can't imagine summers without it now! It is my favorite sport, for sure. Thanks on the short shorts, they are baggier and slouchier than ever! I've managed to be good and not buy a single pair this season, one is certainly enough here (still need some long pairs though). And I can already tell that these gold loafers are going to be my go-to shoe this summer, I too love how they add a little glamor to very casual outfits; I'm even thinking of swapping a pair of pumps on my shopping list with another glam loafer since I'll probably wear them more!

Karie, you won't get any boos from me! Besides, don't only Philly fans boo the Phillies? ;)

Kelly, I highly recommend the gold smoking slippers! They are by Fossil, have a nice footbed with a comfy toe-box, and are currently on sale with plenty left in the gold /enable ^^

Una, yes! I definitely wanted to be sure that all my outfits had a lot of lightness. I don't expect you'll see much black from me this summer, I'm just about ready to put most of it away heh. When is your Hawaii trip, that's soon too right? Enjoy that sun!
  • pil replied 11 years ago
What a fun and sunny getaway. I always thought seniors were the only people who went to spring training, not good looking youngsters like the two of you! Let's hope your shortstop has an outstanding season and isn't traded so you can continue wearing your custom jersey : )
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Pil, if he doesn't manage to bat over .200 this season (goodness, I feel like he'd have to WORK to be that low again) he very may well have to be, but his defense is just so killer brilliant. You know, there were far more young/middle-aged people than seniors at both games! A lot of families with kids. We didn't feel out of place one bit :)
  • Karie replied 11 years ago
Aida, I had to laugh about your comment re Phillies fans - you're so right! We have a bad rep for booing our home team. Before I moved away, I would go to the home games - if they weren't winning, people would start booing and call them "bums." Of course I was never one of those people ;)
  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago
You looked like you had a great time --- so happy you got to make the trip.  You  outfits are perfect --- little "special" touches, but no fussiness.  Perfect for the events you attended.

Now, I root for the soprano to survive the end of the Opera in my house, but I'm drowned out by all the basketball fans watching the NCAA.  Go Jayhawks!  (well at least it's KU blue and red.  Good colors for me!
  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago
So tempting, Aida! Thanks for the link.
  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago
Seriously, you look amazing and so happy. I wouldn't change a thing. Hubby is looking very cute too :) what a fab couple! I am so jealous of the beautiful weather and food.
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Thanks Beth Ann and Scarlet! :)
  • Vicki replied 11 years ago
I love the life you and hubby enjoy, making your passions and pastimes come to life in living, breathing color!  Love seeing you two together.  Your simple packing style was just perfect, Aida, and then to pull out your sister's jersey was spectacular.

Er, um, I would be right next to you eating those pickles, although I've never had fried pickles before, but I do love pickles, olives, etc.  Then, you go to a mushroom bar!  Yep.  Sign me up.

Batter up!  Go Indians...I mean Go Mariners!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Thanks for the very sweet comment, Vicki! We definitely enjoy each other's company :) Next LA meetup we should hunt down some pickle chips, for sure! I'd never heard of a mushroom bar before, but it was such a yummy concept I'm hoping more of them will pop up. Preferably near my house.
