WIW: early 2014 faves

Hi ladies, I wanted to share a few of my favorite outfits since the start of the year! I've still been taking my daily photos over the last year, though I haven't been posting them. These are pretty representative of what I've been wearing to work so far this year. Weekend wear has been extra casual, usually just a sweater or flannel + jeans + boots + knit hat; I could post a few of those if anyone is interested, but they're pretty basic.

I picked mostly red/blue+white+black outfits below but I've also been enjoying wearing gray, camel, mint/emerald, periwinkle/violet, and lots of white white white. I've also been having lots of fun with my nails (my sis and I did a whole crazy football nail project, with new manicures for each week of the season). And I've started working on some heavy wardrobe editing and replanning, which I'll continue working on over the next month.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

What an amazing set of outfits Aida!  I missed seeing them here, so nice you are posting again.  They are all gorgeous, but something about #s 1, 4 and 6 really speaks to me.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Do you have ANY idea what a treat for the eyes these beautiful outfits are Aida???? Nothing to critique 'cause they're all fab. My faves are 4, 9, 12 and 14.

  • replied 10 years ago

Yay! So lovely to see some Aida wiw's! All outfits are fab. I particularly like 1,2,4,13,14 and 15.

  • EveningMood replied 10 years ago

Whatever it is you have been doing with your wardrobe, keep doing it because it's working. If I were a tad younger I'd be all over copying your looks. 4! 6! 12! 15! Too fab for words.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

These are some great looks.  #9 is my favorite, the mixing of plaid and pinstripe is quite clever.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

These are all great! I'm especially drawn to 1, 4, 9, and 13.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

These are all so wonderful! 9 is KILLING ME. I also love 4. Really, I love them all. BUT 9!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

The whole lot is absolutely stunning! 1 and 14 are my favorites.

I love how you rock trousers in casual ensembles. I want to figure out how to do that myself.

  • neonginger replied 10 years ago

Your style is great! There isn't one ensemble that I don't love.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

1,4,9,12, and 13 are my faves. You are looking SO good, Aida. It's a treat to see you in action again! You really do the fluid fit so well! You have me hankering for bootcuts again :)

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

You do have the best style, Aida. I like how you do pinstripes. I'm always so afraid of them!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Kellygirl, so funny about the bootcut envy. In part because of Aida's fab pics, and in part because of Rae's post today, I ordered a pair of bootcut jeans this afternoon. Just want to see if I can look emulate Aida's style. Even a little bit.

  • Joyce B replied 10 years ago

    Those are all fabulous outfits.
    Thanks for posting.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Your posting is a breath of fresh air Aida.  Thank you!  I love all your outfits, especially 2, 9 11 and 15.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

This is such a treat Aida. You have a deft hand at proportions and successful pairing of diverse elements, eg #3. It's marvellous, so quirky and appealing.
I'm intrigued by the heavy wardrobe editing, would you share the reason for that?
I for one would like to seeyour extra casual looks because that is the life I lead 3 weeks out of 4.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

So fun to see you Aida :) an amazing looking set ouf outgits youve shared, i esp. like 1, 4, 11, 12 :)

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

So many fab outfits here! I'm so glad you posted them. It's fascinating to see how skillfully you remix items. My favorites are 1 and 14.

  • Elle replied 10 years ago

You have a great sense of style.  I, too, like all your outfits but particularly 7, 13, and 14.  You also wear wide pants very well

  • Angela K replied 10 years ago

I must say that you have quite a sense of style. Beautiful, fun, flattering outfits but my favs are #2 and #9. Luv the black with the orangey red floral and the plaid and pinstripes......simply. awesome! :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Fab outfits, Aida! What a treat to see you post. They're all great, but my absolute faves are #1, #4, #13, and #14. Wow. I must say you wear bootlegs unbelievably well. And those plaid pants are just too much fun.

#3 is so surprising and yet it works. You look somehow like a mischievous Puss in Boots.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Come back to us, Aida... we need you! :)  Love seeing all of these but especially seeing YOU.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

OH IT IS SO NICE TO HAVE YOU BACK! yes, I am yelling .

I just love every outfit. I am not sure I have favorites. I see you are keeping current yet still are so Aida. I have been looking for a blush leather jacket ever since I saw yours in CA.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 10 years ago

I love all of these photos - how incredibly diverse they are and the detail in each outfit...
The ones that stand out to me the most are:
3 - I just can't get over those colors. They work together so beautifully!
    4 - Deceptively simple... Because it's not.
    12 - Completely lovely!
13 - Amazing details in the he styling of this look! So not me, but wonderful on you!

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

#1 and #13 are my favorites!

  • Patricia replied 10 years ago

Oooh I love your plaid shirts.  I have an unnatural fondness for plaid but can never seem to style it just right.  You are rocking it.  I love the look in #1 too, the trousers with the jacket is great.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Yay, so much fun to see you! And here you are rocking pretty much every style of bottoms. Really love 1 and 14!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

1.2.4.8.13.14 and probably more are my favorites but my finger is tired of scrolling up and down. Wonderful to see you and please keep posting!

  • AJ replied 10 years ago

Yay! Outfit pics from Aida!! Still an expert at rocking either colorful or neutral outfits. My faves are 1,4,9,10,12, and 13.

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

Aida, your outfits are all amazing! Very creative!!! Every look is a head turner!

Question for you: the outfits in flares (1,4,9). Were you wearing heels with them or flats?

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Wow thanks very much, ladies!! I really appreciate all the comments. Happy to hear #9 going over so well, that's the kind of 90s influence I'm looking at for this coming fall.

Diana, working trousers in casually is an ongoing pursuit of mine. I've been headed towards less jeans and more trousers the past few years, but the transition is definitely slow going.

Kelly, to be honest I think that fluid fit is almost too easy as an IT! If a top fits the shoulders, the body is almost always looser ;)

Rachy, what's the fear with pinstripes? They're fun and oldschool rude :D

Viva, I hope the jeans work out for you! The proportions in #4 are an old favorite that seems to be coming around again, wearing a cropped or almost-cropped top with flares and pointy toes. I'm on the hunt for another similarly short top!

Latana, the wardrobe editing is primarily for fit issues. Much of my wardrobe, especially basics, were purchased 2+ years ago and I'm a different size now so some half my things don't fit quite the way I'd like. I can still make them work since oversized is currently in, but I'd definitely be happier in the right size. And of course, there's always the continuing style refinement edits. I'll try to get some weekend outfits posted later this week ^^

Isabel, I got a good feeling about your blush leather jacket this year, blush is getting more and more popular!

SarahTheWhite, big thanks for the detailed comment!

MsKatieKat, yes I'm wearing heels with all the wide pants, 3" for all three of those. I don't wear flats with any of my flared or wide leg bottoms, usually between 2-3".

  • adombecky replied 10 years ago

Thanks for sharing and some of them are so amazing.I have some similar coat but I don't how to match, but now I had some idear

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

These are ALL so blog-worthy and perfect.  Truly can't pick a favorite, so much excellence in style!  And during your absence I thought you might be slacking, boy was I wrong.  ;-)

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

These all look amazing! I am especially digging #4 and #5. Really fab looks across the board!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

So good to see you on the forum, Aida!  I love the freshness of your combinations -- both in silhouette and texture.  You look perfectly modern, but not liking your dressing from a catalog.  Rather, you have a distinct and lovely personal style.

I think I have a soft spot for your wide leg outfits.  Love them with the light footwear!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Fun to see your killer style on YLF again, Aida. We miss it and you.

Am going with #4, #12 and #13 as my faves. xo

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

These are all amazing.  I went through your pictures several times, wondering what it would be like to dress like this every day!  Your look is totally effortless!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Love all of these looks. #1 and #4 especially speak to me. Then I am a sucker for blue and white combinations. The gray really softens the contrast.

  • Kiwichik replied 10 years ago

Clapping hands - I look forward to your posts they are like looking through a fashion mag. Very eclectic but somehow essentially Aida. No special favs as I like them all but very interested to see how you style the wide leg pinstripe pants - as I live in wide leg pants over the cooler months.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Each and every outfit is fantastic, I can't pick a fav - they're all my favs! What a delight to see you posting again. I love the outfits with the Mural bomber - I have it too - and you've given me some additional styling ideas, thank you!

  • NDMom replied 10 years ago

Wow! Love 4 especially....but all are just stupendous! Do you take your own photos? They are great as well! Sorry if you mentioned that already and I missed it!

  • Charmian replied 10 years ago

So good to see your smile again, Aida!  I fell off the outfit photos months ago -- much less posting them -- so you can count me doubly jealous of your dedication and your style.

#4 is absolutely adorable and I love the glamour of #14.  #9 is a great update to the 90s, too.

Oh, and thanks for #1 and #13!  I was just looking at my bomber jacket and houndstooth skinnies yesterday, wondering how to style them.  You can bet I'm going to copy you soon!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thank you for all the lovely comments, ladies!!

Denise, to be fair these are some of the best outfits from the past three months ;) I have been slacking in the sense that I'd been more conventional with my pairings overall, but having interesting (and previously fashion forward, now mainstream) wardrobe items helps a lot when on auto pilot. Over the last month I feel like I've been getting back to styling more creatively. Not for weekend wear, though!

Kiwi, how interesting! I generally can't wear my wider hems until it's warmer, because it just rains sooooo much otherwise. If it were drier where I lived, I'd have several pairs of wool wide leg trousers, no question!

NDMom, thanks! I do take my own photos using the camera's self timer.

Charmain, oooh houndstooth skinnies sound awesome! Are they black&white? Separate from those neutrals, I'd also pair those with cheerfully colored sweaters and pretty pastel blouses :D

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

    # 4 & # 12 are my favourites - they are all great though :)

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago
