WIW Backlog: November casual weekend outfits

As I said in my November work outfits post, I've been focusing weekend outfits on my boho/rugged/natural style leanings. In addition, I have also been trying to really simplify them; partially because it means less thought and therefore less stress when hubby is waiting on me to get dressed (I'm super slow ><), and partially because aforementioned hubby prefers very simple outfits. I found it incredibly helpful during a very stressful month! Also noticed that with this system I tend to skip jewelry on weekends, except for my usual wedding ring/watch combo. These types of very simple outfits really show how important it is to have Well Fitting Clothing in one's wardrobe, regardless of dressiness level; simple outfits with well fitting pieces can make a statement, too.

Here are my casual weekend outfits from November.
#1 : 11.10
#2 : 11.11
#3 : 11.14
#4-10 : 11.18-24

These outfits were all worn, at the least, to run errands and/or eat a casual meal. In brief: #1 was also worn out clothes shopping with my sis. #2 for friends over to watch football, and a not-so-successful attempt to roll my straights (but no worries ladies, I have proper BF-type jeans to do that with now!). #3 to watch a screening of this season's Warren Miller film. #4 to a Sounder's (soccer) playoff game. #5 you can tell hubby took these photos ;) #6 almost all black, with a little bit of gray and brown; also a rare indoor hat! #7 leo pumps spice up even the simplest outfits. #8 to have both families over for Thanksgiving dinner. #9 my default "super fast winter outfit, subcategory: dry day": sweater + flared jeans + pumps. #10 to have friends over for Friendsgiving dinner; fun side note: between the two thanksgivingses we smoked 60lbs of turkey ^^

Every single one of these outfits is a winner Aida! You have such a distinctive style - and I absolutely mean that in the very best way!

And oh my...that's A LOT of turkey!

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

What a beautiful set of outfits Aida! I adore those plaid pants, so much fun!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh, I love the puffy white jacket with chocolate boots. The brown brings an earthiness to the white, and the white modernizes the brown. You also have me wondering why I wanted a non-black trench... your black one looks so awesome! Sounds like you had a busy and social holiday season - mmm... smoked turkey... *faints*

I love that you are posting outfits again -- I love seeing your creations and how well thought out they are!

I love looking at your outfits:) #6 is just so fab - perfect casual chic.

What a great collection of striped sweaters you have! I love seeing these because this is more or less my work-at-home uniform. I agree that great fit is absolutely key to this type of simple casual outfit. If stuff doesn't fit well, you'll never feel fab. I especially love #1 and # 7!

I love your outfit posts! Ok, just a few first reactions before I look more carefully. I notice your gold (?) loafer style shoes in a few posts and love them on you. I also love your black loafers, leading to the question: why do I think you look so great in loafers? I love your fallback outfit #9. Great color sweater and great fitting clothes makes simple look so stylish on you. You are a real sweater girl Aida!

I am in total awe of your style. The sweater in #1 and 8 is perfect for you in every way. I was just on your blog and saw the grey cardi in #5 worn with flared jeans and black button-down which gives me hope for my one and only long cardigan. ( I was thinking about donating it as I can't style it in any way).

You completely rock those red plaid pants!!! It's fun for me to see your style (as someone newly participating in the forum). What a great set of looks!

Thanks for the lovely comments ladies! PS: for the foodies here's smoking and smoked turkey in action, mmmmm!

Rae, both good thoughts! I purged all brown from my wardrobe last year, except for leather, camel, and taupe pieces. I too am loving how white seems to un-earth them. Regarding the trench, I love my black one and all... but I desperately want a colorful one too. Too much black is sad. I am dearly hoping to add something BRIGHT or printed this year!!

Suz, yes! It did take me some time to realize that I needed to spend money AND time on very casual items (any old $5 tee just doesn't cut it), but I am happy that I've come around to it.

Shevia, I am so and totally on team pullover sweater! They are my favorite type of top, hands down, year-round :) These gold slipper flats (by Fossil, found here) were a gift from my sister to use come spring, but I've been trying to sneak in some wears prior to that to help break them in. They are super comfy! I don't know what it is with me and loafer-type shoes, since normally I am not into masculine shoes but sure seem to be into this type! I am VERY particular about them for myself, making sure that they are sleeeeek and not even a little bit chunky. I'm glad my perseverance with them is paying off!

Mona, yep all of my long cardigans have also been passed along. But this gray one keeps managing to make the cut, mainly because I like to wear it as a tunic. Do post yours, we can help you come up with styling ideas or determine whether it deserves a place in your fab wardrobe!

I love the red plaid pants!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

All Aida-fab, but THE PLAID PANTS ARE KILLING ME.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

I'm saving this post for spring, Aida. I bat for team dressy and have difficulty mastering truly casual, but put together casual looks -- the kind that are intentional and thought out, but look completely natural. You are a master at this.

I love to see others' casual outfits, since I never know what to wear on the weekends. My faves here are 1 and 8 - I'm loving the simplicity.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    Love your casual persona.

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

So fun to see your wonderful casual looks! I really like 1,5, and 7.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

OMG! I love your style, Aida. Simple casual, maybe, but with every detail under control. My favorites are #6, #7 and #8. Love that trench - and your striped sweaters!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Those red plaid pants totally steal the show. They are stars in your wardrobe, they fit you and your style perfectly and both of your outfits using them look easy and casual yet unexpected. I also love the way the straight leg jeans look in #9. And the proportions in #5 are so flattering. The fitted sweater is longer than most toppers I wear and the boots aren't quite tall boots; everything comes together beautifully.

  • Atlantia replied 11 years ago

I love your casual style. All the striped sweaters, the great shapes, the pretty shoes....simple is gorgeous!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Ooh, love them all. I, too, really admire a well fitting, interesting, simple casual ensemble! It's what I strive for every day. You use color so well too--I'm taking notes. I can't pick a fave although I love the neutrals in 2 and how you use the long cardigan as a tunic in 5--so clever :) Fab outfits, keep them coming please!

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

Loving seeing the casual persona and the work persona. It is soooo true pulled together casual depends more that i ever previously realized in the fit. I will be coming back for more inspiration. And love those gold flats!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

#3 and #10 are my best! Must be those checked pants :). You are very cute when you pose!

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I love all these outfits! I have trouble with my casual outfits and these are great inspirations for simple, casual, yet stylish weekend outfits.

We smoked our turkey last year and my mother-in-law told me it tasted like ham. What!? I loved it though, especially since it freed up the oven for the side dishes.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

Aida, these are all very inspiring to me as I'm definitely a pants girl. Everything is a riff on a similar formula, but you've compiled a lot of different looks. The plaid paints are just fantastic, you wear those so well. Very bold, but still versatile, love that. And the black pants/jeans, I struggle wearing those but you've really made them shine. Especially love the pairing with the brown boots!

Thanks for the lovely comments ladies, I really appreciate them. Dear me, but I do have such a weakness for striped sweaters as this post evidences!

Beth Ann, those well-fitting piece really are the key to making things look purposeful in a very simple casual outfit; the less pieces you have the stronger the statement each piece makes! I have found it is definitely worth having a few key casual pieces that I spent more time hunting down 10s for, you know?

Denise, I have you to thank for the silhouette in #5! You are the sole reason this gray cardigan still has a place in my wardrobe, so thanks :D

Kelly, thanks! As someone who generally bats for Team Neutrals, I do really enjoy a big swathe of bright color ;)

Angie, aw thank you, I do have fun with my posing hehe! Your comment reminded me of the cute little kissy face poses you modeled for us at Starbucks when we were chatting about posing at the photo meetup ^^

Sara, how odd! Maybe the smokey flavor is something your MIL just associates with ham? Smoking is my favorite turkey preparation for sure, they just come out soooo tender and juicy. I am glad yours turned out well, too!

Tina, highfive fellow Team Pants member! I definitely have a more formulaic weekend look, it really makes things easier for me. Especially in winter/spring since it's always raining! Black jeans are super versatile, an easy way to add some rocknroll to a boho look :)
