WIW Backlog: December outfits

Here are my outfits from December (I'm getting closer to being caught up ><)! The first outfit was worn to the Seattle YLF meetup, after which I was quite sick for 2.5 weeks but still had to get some work in before the holidays, so boo for that but yay for extra outfits :) Since it was such a short month for me I'm posting everything here instead of splitting into work/weekend like I did with November, although I've split out a couple of events along with a short xmas trip for separate posts.

#1 : 12.01
#2-7 : 12.10-15
#8-10 : 12.18-20
#11 : 12.22
#12 : 12.30

In brief!
#1: Warm neutrals for the YLF meetup, and baggy winter shorts especially for Angie ^^
#2 trying my nude boots in winter; didn't feel right, so they'll go back to being spring/summer boots.
#3 new plaid flannel bought at the meetup, SUPER cozy and quite upsized.
#4 taupe sweater dress bought last year that actually didn't get YLF approval but I missed my return window so I just kept it; I've lost weight since then making the fit less snug and I still love it, so here it is! Shown with new creamy houndstooth winter coat also purchased at the meetup.
#5 moody almost-black look, adding in some cobalt; big mix of textures here, and very fond of the mens-y loafers and fitted sweater with these baggy shorts.
#6 attempting to style a flared skirt from the YLF swap which felt a little too sweet but hubby liked it.
#7 extra casual weekend outfit with comfy oversized plaid flannel in pseudo-xmasy colors.
#8 winter lightness, and I know the rather fitted silhouette won't be to everyone's taste as things move to slouchy but I've been on the slouchy wagon for a looong time already so I need the occasional fitted changeup ;) The look is actually fitted-slouchy, as the skinnies are rather slouchy, and there are hints of slouch in the sweater/boots.
#9 my last year's winter uniform: sweater + skinnies + tall boots + necklace. Oldie but goodie!
#10 winterizing a favorite spring look by adding a slouchy black hat and white puffer.
#11 longer-sweater-over-shorter dress look with mens-y footwear. Hubby quite liked this one to my surprise.
#12 fitted sweater with baggy skinnies to have friends over to watch a Seahawks game, so of course I had to wear green+blue!

What a treat! Is the striped blue sweater from Gap by any chance? I just picked one up like that for $12 at the after sale (last one) and I love it. Anyway, need to examine for favorites and details but you look stunning in whites and your hair is divine!

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

These are all so great, it would be hard to pick a fav but mine would be 5. So cool, the black and blue, shorts and tights, ahhh!

I love how you lay out all the photos, it's such a great way to see all your fab outfits!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous new coat, Aida! I love so many of these looks, but the softness of the sweater dress in 4 and playfulness of 10 really stand out.

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

All fab outfits! My fav is #12, I love the rich colors!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

**Squeee!** So exciting to have your WIW post :) My goodness but you do ooze style. I don't know how you manage to make outfit so precise and perfect! All are fab but my faves are 1, 5 and 8. You do neutrals so well--the greys and tans look so fresh and wintery. LOVE the black and blue. That shade of blue is almost electric and just looks SO good with the black. You set a high bar for yourself, Aida! I don't know if I could get dressed everyday if I had to look as good as you, so consistently and creatively!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Oh! I love your WIW posts! I need those jeans in the last one - I'm on the hunt! I think my allover favorite is #8, but they're all some amazing!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

It's always a pleasure to soak up your fab style. Wonderful, all. I especially love 3, 5 and 8!

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

What a treat Aida! it is always a pleasure to see your wonderful outfits. Love them all, especially #5 and #8.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

What amazes me here Aida is how different each outfit is - you're like a style chameleon! #5 is my favourite!

  • Lynne replied 11 years ago

Divine! Loving your new hair, Aida, it's so fun! You have evolved an incredibly fun and versatile style, all of these are just fab! I can't get over how well you wear the sweater dress; who knew that could be such a brilliant colour on you???

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Agree with Raisin - love the layout & #5 is just fantastic.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh la la to the shorts and sweater dress! Really love those and it's always a treat to see those taupe boots rockin on a dark-haired gal. Diggin' the sexy lumberjack look in #7 - are those the boots from The Rack?

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

Love love love the sweater dress :)

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Always love your posts, Aida, your december outfits are so different each one by one! I cannot pick one favourite, I like them all, esp. all your light boots and booties:-) Great month! YLF in all!

  • replied 11 years ago

I love you sweater dress too; and I also love 5 and 8 and 11. Oh I can't pic a favourite! I just love how you combine to make stylish outfits. All fab.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Lovely outfits, Aida! i actually really like #8. Love the snug outfit with hints of slouch and that BR coat completes the whole outfit beautifully. Also, you wear plaid well. I can't wait to see your more recent spring looks.

  • replied 11 years ago

Wow, you always look so great. I actually like the nude boots in 2 and the sweater dress looks really nice on you (missing return window was meant to be). Really like the look of 7 and love, love, love 10.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the comments ladies, I really appreciate them!

Shevia, I found the blue/black striped sweater at Marshalls, can't remember who makes it at the moment. I bet your GAP one will get lots of use, it's a surprisingly versatile color combo!

Raisin and Caro, thank you for the compliments on my photo layouts :D

Kelly, thanks for your detailed and especially sweet comment <3 One of my secrets is that I am very slow to get ready, heh. From wake-up through finished up and all ready + taking photos... It takes me 1.5-2 hours each morning on work days, and 1 hour on the weekend. Knowing I get to share my outfits with you lovely ladies is inspiration enough for me on those days when I need that extra push.

Shannon, hopefully they all still have some sense of continuity! That's something I've been working on the last several months, narrowing down my field of eclectic-ness.

Lynne, so wonderful to hear from you, thank you very much! I have fallen quite hard for taupe in the last year, and it's now one of my core neutrals :)

Rae, yep those are the boots. I haven't worn them as much as I'd anticipated BUT I expect that I'll be wearing them more next fall as more 90s stuff trickles through (not one of my personal inspirational decades, but hey I'll still play along!).

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Nice job catching up. My favorites are 10, 10, 10, 11 and 8. Did I mention my love for 10?

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

Aida, you have such a flair for putting together outfits, and combining pieces in a modern way. I cannot pick a favourite. I'm very intrigued by your ability to do lighter coloured footwear so brilliantly, and in winter. I'm inspired, and I want to do this more often. I have dark hair also, which makes it doubly complicated.

    You look amazing!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Your WIWs are always a treat. You are fearless and adorable in your winter shorts outfits, bright jeans, and especially the sweater dress. The light boots blend so well with it. YLF!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you JJ, Tina, and Joy!

Tina, I have found light footwear to be a LOT easier to style than I would have guessed a couple years ago prior to really wearing it :) With light skin, as long as some skin is exposed (like my face, neck, and/or forearms) I don't even need other light elements in the outfit, though of course they certainly can help to keep balance. When my hair was longer, I also used to pull it back most of the days I wore light footwear to minimize the darkness around my face. It is definitely worth experimenting with, I'm sure you could don light footwear easily too!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Interesting that 90s isn't inspirational for you. I know you prefer 80s, but for some reason I thought 90s as well. We'll see if we can't convert you next year. ;)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Rae you know what, I actually find it odd as well since the 70s ARE very inspirational to me and there was some resurgence in the 90s. I think that with my love of BRIGHT color and crazy prints, the bleakness of the fashion that was around me in the 90s was just that.. bleak. You know me, I'm pretty ummm energetic? upbeat? giggly? ;) I wore plenty of 90s things in the 90s: flannels, combat boots, work shirts, etc. It's just that those flannels were neon, the combat boots patent with lime laces, the work shirts bright red 7-11 shirts.... I wore a lot of camo, plaid pants, and blazers back then, too. I'm curious to see what resurgent 90s trends appeal to me this time around! And if I get stuck I'll definitely be taking cues from you :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Now that you mention it, the 90s were bleak. I guess I never noticed because I was such a moody kid.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I tried to be moody but, well, I am sure you can guess at how badly I failed at that ;)

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Aida, your WIWs are always such a highlight around here. Beautifully photographed and organized, and of course your style is consistently excellent!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I'm so honoured that you wore #1 for me :) *happy sigh*. You know I LOVED it!

*waving at my flannel shirt twin*

Such a gorgeous '40s elegance to #6. KILLER.

And well, you know, you (and Sveta, Inge, Joy and Jamie) are my Winter White sisters so #8 makes me faint. LOVE the new shorter do!!!

    *faints*

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

These are all gorgeous, but I especially love #6!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Janet, Angie, and Thistle!

Angie, I should give that 40s skirt another styling try, I am having trouble with ideas but I do really love the shape and the fabric. I feel like I made good progress on the white front this year, but also feel like I still need more winter-weight white things :) And I cut my hair EVEN SHORTER a week or two ago, I think it's a little too short but it's pretty fun hehe

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

Omg that is awesome hair! I wish I had enough volume/curl!

  • columbine(erin) replied 11 years ago

I really like the houndstooth coat and sweater dress with the boots. If I owned anything like those pieces I'd copy it, just looks comfy and put together. :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks Jules! I can't get quite that much volume on my own at home, but I sure do my best. My hair is both fine and thin so if it's looking voluminous or thick, I must be doing it right ;)

Thank you Columbine! Sweater dresses are one of my favorites for winter days when, as you say, I want to be comfy and look put together without too much fuss or effort. A long cozy sweater with slim pants and tall boots also works nicely!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

ooh, #4 is super cuddly wonderful!!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Wow, is it haircut season or what? Followed your link from Una's thread. You both look awesome! So in love with your curls.

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Haven't even looked at the first page with your outfits (came here via Una's link and am on my way out the door) but you look FANTASTIC. Your hair. I am loving it. Thank you for the Bumble product recs and for your enthusiasm for my own do. And for providing the fab inspiration for it!

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

Aida, I love your haircut! I love curly hair and used to pay lots of money to get mine curly. I only wish it ever looked as good as yours!

  • replied 11 years ago

I'm super late to the party! You look fantastic, these are all amazing!

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

Hmmm interesting that you don't feel you have a lot of volume naturally, making me wonder if I could get this look. You make me want to grow my hair, and it's been many years since I felt that way! I like the way it is shorter both in front with a few face-framers, and in back, with some length in between. I wish my hair could decide on being curly or straight...

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

THAT is what I call Rocker Curls :).

LOVE THE SHORTER DO EVEN MORE!! It just makes you look even prettier.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Aida, like Rae, I jumped over from Una's thread and I LOVE your new cut. You look beautiful, as usual, and I love the different lengths of your curly tendrils. Not too short IMHO. Simply gorgeous.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

I love your WIW's, Aida, and I'll give you some love on that taupe sweater dress! Plus, I love you in the winter whites/creams as much as I adore your black/navy/black tights looks. Yes, I can see why hubs liked that outfit, too! Now, I'm waiting on January! :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh ladies, thank you all SO MUCH for the sweet compliments on my shorter hair! I AM having fun with this very-short-in-back cut, no worries! It's just that the shortest curly bits around the crown are hard to control and, really, they just do whatever they want (my punk streak starts at my roots? *badum!*). Since I only wash my hair every few days all of that is doubly hard to deal with once I sleep ;)

Rae, I can't wait to see your shaggy pixie!!!

Nancy, awesome! Feel free to PM me if you want to chat hair :D

Angie, woo exactly what I was going for! \m/ I think this cut ended up a little more 80s punk when I tend to prefer more 70s punk, but it's still pretty darn fun. I've been styling it a bit softer than the stylist did in the above photo, and that's feeling just right for me.

Vicki, thank you for both lovely comments, you are so sweet! January is coming soon :)

  • Laurie replied 11 years ago

    Aida,
I'm late to comment so it's all been said I think. Looking at your pics was so enjoyable - #4 was the show stopper for me.

You have an amazing collection of boots - I've become a boot person, and I love every pair you own!.

You do pose adorably- as Angie mentioned recently. More!
