WIW backlog - BF jeans

Been working on my backlogged outfits from the past two months, finally ready to post some! I normally go week-to-week, but this time I thought it'd be fun to link back to some of Angie's blog posts. It has been interesting looking at my outfits as variations on a theme, since week-to-week and day-to-day they vary quite a bit. So! Here are a few recent outfits I've worn featuring various BF jeans. Clearly the semi-tuck reigns supreme.

#2/3, 06.25 (work). This blush linen baseball tee and destructed ultra-faded BF jeans are extra slouchy and slubby together, so all of my usual structural points: exposed skin (neck, arms, feet), refined pumps, and semi-tucked with a belt. I think this would've been a bit more urban feeling with my hair up but I was in a soft mood so I left it down. After wearing that crossbody bag a day or two, I re-realized that I don't like shoulder/xbody bags (after buying two, bah) and have since shortened the strap and relegated it to hand/clutch mode only.

#4/5, 07.07 (work). If this outfit looks familiar, that's because I loved it so much I wore it again just 10 days later to meet Shevia ^^ This version is more casual with the sandals (thanks Mo!), and glam in a different way with the giant crystal earrings and pomp-pony. All kinds of metals mixed in here: silver, rose gold, bronze -- the only thing missing is plain ol' gold ;)

#6/7, 07.22 (work). I had noticed that I was working my new purchases much more heavily than other things in my wardrobe, so for this outfit I pulled all older pieces except for the shoes and clutch. This base is a combo that I have worn several times, and it's always a favorite. Mixed textures (silk, large knit, denim, leather, sequins) and mixed critters (zebra, snake); I almost wore peacock earrings to add an additional critter but at the last minute swapped ^^ Changed things up by donning a plum lippie instead of my more usual summer go-tos (pink, orange, or red).

#8/9, 08.08 (work). Another outfit working older favorites, this time except shoes and belt. Was in a more boho mood so left the hair extra soft and curly, and popped on my longest earrings ^^ Last year I wore my white pumps with this outfit, this year I am enjoying the additional color and texture depth these gray suede pumps add (plus there's still plenty of white with the belt and clutch). One of these days I'll try something else, but for now I'm still happy with my usual lip color when I wear this violet sweater: orange. At least this day I went bright (bordering neon, even if it doesn't really show in the photos), versus the softer shade I'd usually wear.

#10/11, 08.17 (weekend). I had expected that both this linen sweater and these faded BF jeans would get a lot of wear this summer, but we've had such a wonderfully warm summer that neither have come out much at all! Can't complain too much about that ;) I definitely skew gold with my metals, but for this day I went (nearly) all silver with the belt, earrings, and shoes. Since the outfit is a bit grungy I chose soft hair and a light pink tinted lip balm.

What a fun retrospective! You really wear your BFs well. These are all terrific, but I'm especially taken by 6/7 and impressed that you put it together with older items. I share this tendency to wear my newer things more often and it's a great reminder that oldies can be really good (ies). I love the shiny clutch with the thicker knit.

I equally love #8 and envy you those grey pumps. I strongly considered buying them but in the end decided I just didn't have enough opportunities to wear (given our weather). I will enjoy them vicariously on you.

Yay! I have been waiting for some Aida outfits and this a bf bonanza is more than I could have hoped! The first thing I noticed is how well you go from soft muted colors to the strong purple in #8. I love how you wear your bfs full length in the first outfit and have the urge to buy white pumps so I can be your triple shoe twin and copy you directly. I like how you wear the darker bfs with the tans and golds in #6. I am going to study your lipstick selection carefully as I have armed myself with some new lipsticks and have decided to try to become a lipstick wearer at last!

Aida, great outfits, but as always can't stop staring at your gorgeous hair! I'm growing mine out right now, would love it to look like yours some day. What is the mousse you use? The link on Mary's hair thread does not work for me.

#6 is great!  The color of the jeans, the mixed textures of the top, with the fun belt and bag.  Outstanding!

What great looking boyfriends you have! I love your style and especially like 2/3 and 6/7.

What a treat of WIWs, you look stunning in all your close ups! I love all the looks, and am taking notes on how you roll (or not) your jeans and what kind of footwear you wear them with - much to learn for you!

Beautiful Aida!! 6 and 8 are my absolute favorites but that's just because I like high contrast outfits! All are stellar really! I admire how you do high and low contrast outfits equally well. I have pinned some of your looks to copy!

And you wear full length boyfriends really well! And obviously you shortened the straps for the shoulder and cross body bags ... You are clearly a clutch girl :)

Great inspiration for BF outfits. Thanks for sharing them!

4, 6, and 8 are may faves and you know i love it when you pull your hair back. (I like it down too).  I love a cool Ikat print and the color looks great on your skin tone.

Great looks!  I'm taking notes on how to wear flats and boyfriend jeans together without looking stumpy.

What a great idea to group BFs together! They are all fantastic outfits, Aida! I have to admit my fav is the mix of animals & materials! Love the sequins and the animal print pairings. Funny if you'd thrown in the peacocks! I love your descriptions b/c I look at the photos first, then read about them, then look again at all the cool details that I missed the first time. You are rocking the BFs, girl!!!

I never try to "pick a favorite" with your posts -- I almost always love them all!  What I often learn is from looking at the themes that emerge, and occasionally I look at your posts when I'm trying to figure out what to do with a wardrobe orphan or a way to break through a style malaise.  Today I'm getting lots of ideas on proportion with looser pants, and also for lighter to midtones that are casual, but have a bit of flair and work for brunettes.

I so rarely see BF's in full length --- that's rather fun.

This was a feast for the eyes:)  I love looking at a group of outfits like this and really admire how you work a certain look in so many different ways. The violet top is STUNNING - love that colour on you.  I have been sending myself messages to get into more colour and add a few pieces like that .....thanks for such an inspirational post!

I can't decide which of these 4 things is cuter. Your poses - your outfits - your positive attitude to my blog post - or your delightful persona. I'm going with all four as killer, and hope you and D are doing okay.

LOVE the new fringe bag, you gorgeous creature. xo

What fun - so many great Aida outfits in one post!  I esp. love #6 and #8 - I think I like the depth of color in those. I can relate to the xbody bag issue. I have several that I bought when I though I loved the hands free style but have learned that I need a satchel with a long strap to be completely happy so I can only put it on my shoulder when I need to, instead of being required to carry it on one side (which is what I find bothersome with them). My beloved Fossil saddle style xbody bag is still going to get some use (wish I could add a short handle) but I think I've retired the others.

You are looking so fab in your BFs, Aida! I love all of these and would copy them all in a heart beat. I think 1 and 3 are my faves but they are seriously all awesome. I hear you on the cross body bags. I go back and forth on them but ultimately keep going back because they keep my hands free.

LOVE your style and am so glad that you did a dedicated BF post. So inspiring.

Okay, you look gorgeous, of course.  In all of these.  Without exception.  Because you are Aida of the Awesome Style.  I love 4/5 the absolute best, though.  Perfection!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks so much for all the great comments and feedback, I appreciate them!

Jaime, ooh how fun! Since I don't wear much makeup, I do enjoy skewing my lip color for each outfit. I have a whole bunch of sheer lip colors that I layer for various shades, but in general I wear some sort of pink, orange, or red. This season my favorites have been bright orange, soft light pink, deep cherry pink, and a peachy nude. In the fall/winter I tend to go for deeper red, cranberry, rusty orange, and plum. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours.

Jules, the mousse is "Oribe Curl Shaping Mousse". It's extra lightweight and does a great job of holding the curls. I put it in with really wet hair and blow dry with a HUGE diffuser, but it works nicely for air drying as well.

Beth Ann, looser pants and curvy hips can indeed necessitate a little proportion trickery. I generally wear all of my pants lower, but looser pants in particular get worn low on the hip and particularly when pairing with roomier tops (which I really enjoy). Angie mentioned why this is recently in her semi-tuck post: it visually straightens out the hips to balance the look out.

Angie, you know that fringe bag gets a pass in my "no more shoulder bags" because it's super fun ^^ I've been wearing it primarily on the weekend though; it doesn't feel crisp enough for most of my work outfits. Davy and I are doing well, thank you <3

Texstyle, ah we are in the minority I think! I don't find shoulder and crossbody bags "hands free" at all; they always slide around to my front and then I have to push them back! Much rather just have a clutch and tuck it under my arm, or have a handbag that I can push up my elbow.

Kelly, I did post a whole bunch of other BF looks on one of Pastrygirl's threads a while back too, if you feel like even more outfits. Clearly I wear them plenty ;)

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Glad you and Davy are doing well. Enjoy your naughty new shoulder bag. Rules are most fun when they are broken. xo

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    As a not-currently-practicing-but-always-in-spirit punk, I full agree :)

And did you see this glorious tribute to the '80s:

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Oh I missed that somehow! That is glorious indeed. Off to peruse the Pinterest board and pretend I'm ( /lament I'm not) an 80s rock star for a while ^^
