WIW a few from July

A handful of my favorite outfits from the month of July. I felt a bit weird at the thought of going through the weeks and posting everything since it was 2 months ago, so if you want to see the full lot they're all up on my Weardrobe page linked in my profile :) Nearly all of these were worn to work, and I noted where else if otherwise.

  1. 4th of July outfit, spend the day out doors at my in-law's for food and fireworks.
  2. A white-out type look, and new (at that time) nude sandals.
  3. Worn to a friend's art show opening down in Seattle; I was highly amused to be the only one there NOT in black. (And not just at the show, I felt like the whole city was sporting black!)
  4. A look that went through many variations before becoming this. I rather like the 80s Flashdance thing going on now, but didn't like it at all on the day I wore it (kind of odd?).
  5. An adjacent-on-the-color-wheel color pairing. One of my favorite red jean outfits!
  6. My attempt at a summer-time version of the black+camel color combo.
  7. A day on the boat, and a chance to wear my straw cowboy hat for the first time (purchased LAST summer!). After boating, out to a baseball game in the outfit to the right. New (at that time) bucket bag from the YLF store :)

All great! A+++. I esp. like #6 with the soft neutrals and the gold necklace which shows off so well. Of course, I can't decide if that is my favorite or the patriotic vibe of #1... or the bright and white flare of #5... or those fantastic shoes in #2...

I don't mind looking at the old photos - keep 'em coming!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

I always look forward to your outfit posts. You are looking very fit Aida, you really look great in all of these slim jeans. I love the bracelet stacking in #4 and the white out look especially with the blazer on. Also those red jeans were made for you!

We are bag sisters now, I have that same Gap bag from Angie's store. I would write more but I have a cat on my lap. She is new, a 10 year old kitty who I got because of a friend's breakup.

So it's hard to type but let me just say uou look great and I love your style!

  • Sona replied 12 years ago

Aida- I read your weardrobe site pretty regularly and love the confidence and panache with which you make each outfit YOURS. Your comfort in your skin, your clothes and your style are so evident. I covet that comfort! Someday in my style journey I can be Aida-es-que. That would be ultimate.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for the lovely comments ladies!

cjh, maybe I'll do a part 2 to this thread with some of the other unposted outfits :) #6 there is one of my favorites, I need to try to put together a few more outfits like it before I darken up for fall!

Denise, thank you for the fit comment; it makes me especially happy because my goal is to be, and stay, healthy and fit (versus "thin" or "small"). I've been really into stacking bracelets this summer; started during the Spring Picture Perfect Challenge to add color but now I just like the jingles ^^ Woo for bag sisters! I was excited when I saw you post yours a little while back :D And what a gorgeous kitty, so sweet of you to take her in! (Such a cute photo of you two, too!)

Sona, I truly appreciate your comment. I've been working at this for over 2 years now, and it is so nice to hear that confidence, comfort and style show through especially because I still feel I'm in the learning-about-my-style phase! But there's no reason I can't be happy with where I'm at while I work to improve. I think you are well on your way there, by the way :) Posting WIWs for feedback is so useful, as is continuing to experiment and refine your wardrobe and style desires.

You always look great so you score KILLER for the lot.

Nice to see you in flats for a change :)

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Aida, a killer week as usual. I am LOVING the red and orange... also the maroon shorts with the striped tank. Just fab!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Ohh thank you Angie, how exciting to get a Killer for this group :D These were some of my favorite outfits from the month so that makes me double happy! I've been wearing my houndstooth flats with the black patent tips a lot lately, and with only 2 pairs of flats that actually fit I'm totally hankering for a couple more: 2-tone cream, bright color, and animal print.

Una, thanks! Did you end up keeping the orange lace dress? Have you tried pairing it with your red jacket and some white jewelry??

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

I noticed right away, how spot on your shoe choices were. They either extend the leg line perfectly (2, 3 and 5) or bookend your hair nicely (6) or are super fun (the oxfords in 4, I've been stumped how to style mine). And that striped top in #1, is super, love the diagonal design.

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Aida gorgeous set of outfits. I can't pick a favourite butvi just love you in red. The red jeans look amazing and I love the jeans and red cardigan. Everything just works. You have a great eye for detail :)

  • morethanbeige replied 12 years ago

Wow, Aida, great outfits. And such variety. I also can see your confidence and creativity just growing and growing. You seem so comfortable in your own skin and have such a sense of your own style. I love #1 with the diagonals and was drawn to it right away from the home page. Love the white out with the jacket and those shoes! How fun the red skinnies and orange scarf! Fantastic.

I also am taking notes at how you extend the leg line and add vertical length.

    Thanks for the post!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

Lovely and interesting, as usual! I am especially smitten with #3--I really like how you've taken a very neutral outfit and made it intriguing. I like the sort of "ladylike" touches with the jeans and casual top. But you look great every day!

  • crwilson replied 12 years ago

I haven't been around as much lately, so I haven't seen your recent WIW posts. Your style has grown and developed so much since the last photos I looked at (and you looked great then). You look confident, thoughtful, and effortlessly stylish. I loved every outfit, but the red jeans were my absolute favorite.

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

Love love love 5, 6, & 7. But 5 is my favorite, you look amazing in these colors! the scarf, the jeans, just killer.

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

Ps so happy to see you protecting your pretty face in the sun with that cute hat in 7!

  • rute replied 12 years ago

Let me tell you that your style has improved so much since your first post!
I'm blown away by that fabulous black and white top, the dress and the shoes of picture 2, the hat, the bracelets, the poses.. I could go on and on!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Thanks for all the wonderful comments ladies, you gals totally made my day :D

Lisa, thank you! I do select my shoes very particularly with each outfit; I love how they can add just the right finishing touch, and how they can be used to change attitude, tone, visual elements, among other many things!

Deborah, I also love red! I wear much more of it in fall/winter, not sure why especially since white+red+turquoise is one of my favorite combos. (And now that I say that, I don't think I've worn it this summer. Hmm, have to get on that!)

Morethanbeige, thanks :D One of my main dressing goals is lengthening, and I always try to get a little bit in with each outfit whether it's with shoes, accessories, or garment cut.

Jonesy, I was so happy with your comment on #3 that I wore a variation of it today with the JCrew avocado silk shirt that you inspired me to get (with a bright turquoise scarf!) ^^

crwilson, thank you and nice to see you again! I've definitely been having fun getting into my style over the last few months. Hope that you've been getting lots of chances to wear that dynamite Stop Staring dress :D

Carole, I'm a recent convert to orange but I don't have much of it in my wardrobe; hoping to work it into more outfits this fall! Pairing with red and white has been my go-to so far. I am trying to remember to wear my hats more often when I'm out in the sun, and for the boat trip was so glad I did because there were zero clouds that day (even though it was super windy as you can see by me holding onto it in most of the photos, tee hee!).

Rute, thanks so much! I am really happy to now have items in my wardrobe that I love that aren't plain tees. Amazing how much it helps :)

Late to the party, but #1 absolutely makes me week in the knees - in a perfect world, I'd be able to sigh at my computer and the thing would order the whole look for me!

Must echo the sentiments that you are looking extra fit in these and that the orange is awesome. I've wanted to get more orange, too, but the last shade I owned (years ago, pre YLF) made me look really ill. Seeing this really re-sparks the old interest!

@ Denise, Kitty is gorgeous!! Bless you for taking in an older cat - I so often hear that people don't want older kitties because they don't have enough "years left in them" -- as if 5+ years is just something to throw away in the pound. :( Anyway, what a refreshing change - she looks like a love bug!

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

funny that you didn't like #4.. It was among my favorites... along with 1,3 and 5

  • teri replied 12 years ago

2 and 6 are my favorites!! You always look great.

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

Aida, you look like a movie star! I'm in awe of your summer faves--they are all so fun and fresh. I love how you make those basics work for you. They are all fab but I especially love 2,5, and 6. The white blazer look so good over the dress and let's just say, you rock the skinnies : )

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

I am stumped to single anything out because these just all look really good. Really a great job from head to toe!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

    Thanks for the comments :D

Rae, the bright red-orange and coral-orange that's been around this past season is MUCH better for our skin tone (pretty sure we're similar but you're much more tan than I!) than that odd faded yellowy-orange from a few years ago. I think you could totally sport one of these currant oranges :) PS I love my older cat! If I adopted another I'd probably go for an older one, they're extra cuddly <3

Kim, I think I'm still not used to seeing myself in flat oxfords. My eyes are adjusting though, I'm wearing them today :D

Teri and Scarlet, thanks very much!

Kelly, pshaw I need a "blush" button ^^ You know, I've been thinking a lot about the basics vs. statement pieces thing after Una posted recently about it. My closet is mostly basics, though upgraded and a bit more interesting since coming to YLF; it used to bug me because I thought it was boring, but these days I rather like the simplicity and I enjoy styling them (weird?). I'm still working on getting a handful of more statement-type pieces to mix in here and there, but I think deep down I like my basics and my neutrals best :)

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

Okay, I gave it some more thought--I want to say 7 is my favorite, but I think I am influenced too much by the great weather which I haven't seen much of since May. I think my favorite is 5. That red just comes so alive on you.

  • replied 12 years ago

You look so wonderful! Love you in all the pale neutrals!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Scarlet, tee hee^^ We didn't really get any warm weather until a couple weeks ago; I'm kind of bummed that most of my summer purchases are only going to get worn a couple times. Hopefully you get some late warm weather!

Alicat, thank you! Pale neutrals have been my Favorite Thing this summer :)

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

I'll check things in more detail a bit later, for now just a quick chime in to say I loooove every single outfit you ever posted in those red pants - they really are awesome.

I really love the whole round and the two that stand out for me just a bit are 4 (fab accessorizing!) and 2 (very 'quiet' outfit, has very 'grown up' vibe, I adore how it's jazzed up with the fab shoes).

Wonderful collages, as always! What do you use to make them?

  • Barbara replied 12 years ago

Gorgeous, Aida. Number one is my favorite.

Your style is always so confident and fabulous!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

    Thanks Ornella and Barbara!

O, I'm pretty positive red pants are going to be a wardrobe staple for me forever, now :) I use Photoshop to put together my collages (and fix the white balance of the photos as needed). I don't shoot raw or spend toooooo much time with it though, maybe 10-20 min per shoot + 10-20 min per collage.

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

I hear, you, Aida. I bought pricey sandals this summer and only wore them three times! It's terrible. Ironically today should hit 80.

  • Marley replied 12 years ago

I am blown away by ALL of them! If these outfits are any indication, you had a FAB July! I cannot pick a favorite - but I also want to let you know that I LOVE the way you wore your hair in #5 - your scarf and hair echo each other - so very cool! Thanks for posting!

@Denise - LOVE that you've taken in an older cat - they are the best!
