WIW 11.23-25 [++festive]

As per Angie's challenge I'm adding a little extra festivity to my outfits! At the moment much of my winter wardrobe is composed of essential elements with very little sparkle (and I usually have a good bit of sparkle!). But of course there is still plenty of pretty and glam, as both are a big part of my style. I had to think a bit about what exactly upping the festive could mean for me, then, and ultimately decided the best approach would be adding an extra element (or two or three) that I would normally leave off. Which should take my usual Minimally Maximal style up a few notches on the maximal continuum ('tis the season, why not!).

For this short work week I thought it'd be fun to wear outfits that could actually go to a casual holiday party with minor changes (listed under "Upgrades for party wear"), and of course which are all a little "more" than how I'd normally wear them (listed under "Festive additions"). Also played with layering my lip colors again, which I haven't been doing lately, and had a lot of fun with that. For actual holiday wear I'd add a little sparkly eyes, and probably some shiny gloss over whatever lipstick I'm wearing.

#2/3 11.23. Textured grays with deep cranberry lipstick. Fun to pull out this rarely worn sparkly tweed collar. This black coat was a gift last winter, and although I wore only it a couple times then (didn't like it as much with my shorter hair), I think I'll wear it plenty this season (like it much more with my longer hair, strangely). Retro-glam outerwear.
  Newer: sweater, pants, earrings
Older: booties, collar, coat, clutch, sunnies

  • Festive additions - tucked top, sparkly tweed collar
  • Upgrades for party wear - booties to black patent pumps, and maybe sweats to slim black pants

#4/5 11.24. Boho punk (because, extra crazy hair!) with candy red lips (two sheer reds, layered). For a very casual party, obviously ;) But I could always swap to similarly faded non-shredded jeans if needed. Modern-trendy outerwear.
  Newer: poncho, earrings
Older: jeans, booties, coat, clutch, gloves, sunnies

  • Festive additions - stack of spike bracelets, colorful gloves
  • Upgrades for party wear - black tights to glittery tights, boots to gray ankle strap pumps

#6/7 11.25. A favorite holiday color combo, green+white+cognac, with electric orange lips (matte neon orange, sheer frosted orange, and pink gloss). Feeling a bit unwell today and wanted a happy FFBO. Retro-ladylike outerwear.
  Newer: blouse, boots, earrings
Older: jeans, necklace, coat, clutch, sunnies

  • Festive additions - deco necklace
  • Upgrades for party wear - tucked top + gold belt, rock studs to giant gold hoops

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

And a Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate ^^

Very thoughtful! I love how you've considered each outfit and what you would change for party wear. These are all great but I think the last one is my favorite with the sparkly clutch, although the sparkly collar is nice too.

I love all three outfits but then I always love everything you do.

Your beautiful smile in pic one steals the show!
Love how you combine textures and colours Aida!

Ack, the pictures plus the details, I want to give you an A+ on your assignment. Thank you for giving lip color details, it feeds my obsession.
Anyway, I love the shades of grey outfit - the track pants with the fur collar coat is fantastic. Love the colors in the poncho outfit, which makes me ask how you chose the shoes (over let's say your white square heel booties - not a suggestion, just wondering). Great necklace in the third and the top is perfect on you. And your hair is amazing. What fun your posts are Aida!

Wow, lots of great colour and texture here! And I love the way you analyse your outfits and how they can be tweaked for different occasions. You have such a considered approach to fashion. My fave here is no 3. Love the mix of green, white and cognac, so fresh in cool weather. On no 2, how did it go wearing the coat over the poncho? Was it comfortable or did the poncho sleeves bunch up under the coat? I find that look interesting because the trouble I have with ponchos is that when it is cold enough to wear them I would generally want another layer as well.

Sparkly collar!  Sparkly Collar!   This kind of item is one that you'll keep forever.  You might go for a few years without wearing it, and then rediscover it all over again, styling it in fresh ways!  I love that you've paired it with joggers -- fab.

The green/white is a fresh look at holiday colors.  The bright white adds brilliance and is reminiscent of snow --- the green reminds me of a fir forest.  What a terrific pairing.

And thanks for reminding me to play with makeup.........

The sparkly collar is so fun with the soft sweater and jogging style pants! I also love love love you in that green and white. Vivid and fresh.

Your take on festive is clever and fun. You look fantastic in all of these outfits. I especially like the boho look and your ideas for party wear upgrades to it. Glitter tights showing through the shredded jeans and with the pumps--what a great idea. I love how you've dressed up the grays with the sparkly tweed collar and the coat with the fur trim. And the green, white, and cognac outfit is stunning--love the way that necklace perfectly fills the neckline and echoes the pattern of the blouse. For not feeling well, you look stunning. Thanks for sharing these outfits and your thoughts in putting them together!

Wow, you've put ALOT of thought into this, Aida. You look pretty & festive. I absolutely love the poncho outfit! And the sparkly collar is so amazing!

What a great idea! A resource list of how to make things right for the holiday period. Love it.
You look gorgeous in all. I especially love that cream coat, so lovely.
I'm still getting used to postings on cold winter Christmases - in Australia we are all wearing singlet dresses and sandals, or swimmers!

Super fun outfits! I like how you've "festive-up'd" each one by adding some extra special elements. My favorite is the white jeans & plaid shirt & brown boots outfit because I can recreate it immediately! Thanks for the outfit inspiration :)

Aida, you are Queen Festive and dress festively EVERY DAY. You look extra gorgeous in the glam poncho.

  • Roxanna replied 8 years ago

Love the long hair on you! And that tweed collar steals my heart. What a smart festive upgrade.

  • celia replied 8 years ago

Love the outfits and the way you point how to upgrade for party.

I can't give this enough love!  The second outfit with the greys is my fave - I want that coat with the furry collar!   And I have almost the same pants; mine are from Old Navy.  Thank you for providing all the juicy details and for all the super inspiration you provide me to put some effort into my looks.

Ooooooh! Yummy, cozy, texture rich ensembles. Lovely palette of grey, blue, green, and white with the cognac to warm things up.

Really this could be a spread out of a fashion magazine. You are that darn good at mixing outfits together and putting just the right pieces to make a creative statement.

You do set the bar high Aida! As per usual, I'm loving all the lovely rich combos of texture and colour. Very festive!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Wow, I love everything.  That collar is just beautiful and I love what it adds to the outfit.  The grey tones are SO attractive on you Aida.  Looking fabulous.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

Oh wow - I love so much here. The poncho outfit, the green top, the plaid coat, but especially the black coat, which has hints of Morticia Addams fabulousness.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I love your joggers :D Also, you've reminded me of my blingies collar. I need to wear it.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

The Boho outfit!  So well done.  And I think the black coat looks extremely glamorous on you.  It makes me think of Marisa Berenson in the 70s.

  • Lisa replied 8 years ago

Fun outfits, but my poncho loving self is partial to that poncho as my favorite look of the group.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

There are no words to express how fun, inspiring and interesting these outfits are and how fabulous you look. My favorite is the second outfit, which surprises me as I'm not a big fan of shredded jeans, but you make them look amazing.
